Great Rock Golf Club
About
Opened in 2001, Great Rock Golf Club is one of the newer golf clubs in Long Island but it feels much older thanks to its scenic landscape of rolling green hills covered with mature forests. The mountainous landscape provides plenty of elevation changes that make it difficult to find a flat lie. At 6,254 yards, the course is short but it is still a challenging round with narrow, tree-lined fairways that demand accuracy. There is hardly any water on the golf course but with strategically placed bunkers, sidehill lies, and towering trees to contend with, golfers will hardly notice the absence of water hazards. Great Rock's signature hole is the challenging 10th. This par-4 beast is a double uphill climb with a seemingly flat green, but if you read it that way, you're in for some trouble.

Great Rock pluss nice views
Played golf on Tuesday 8/19 weather was good pace of play good and course was very nice. The condition could be better but was good as is and I will play the course if it stays open again soon.
beautiful afternoon
played the reopened great rock golf club.a nice course layout. greens were super fast.the bunkers need some attention and fresh sand, there are spots that are hard as concrete.the clubhouse resteruant is closed for renovations, but there was a beverage cart on the course
Great course, tough greens
Course was in good condition, the greens were really hard for an average player like myself. The pace was slow, for some reason the ranger was following slow group in front of use but didn't do much to quicken it up. Other than that was a good day. Only other issue is lack of food as restaurant under renovation, no liquor license as well. The course itself very pretty, lots of scenic views, especially from some of the elevated tee boxes.
4.5 hrs
Tee off 7am walk off 1130 need I say more? 4.5 hrs rd . 2 groups constantly on tee boxes. Ranger just watching this happen . Honestly invest my 4somes money wisely you wont get any more!
Sunday hacker
Greens were nice nd pretty slick from what I'm used to but was able to pull out a 76. Lil slow on the pace but it was Sunday after all
Nice course but hard as a rock
I've played this course in the past under it's prior management. The course is nice and the price was fair for what the course was. That said I feel as if I wasted my day and my money on this course last Sunday. I know it's been a dry summer but it seems as if they haven't watered anything. The fairways and greens were rock hard. I wasn't able to judge any distance correctly because whenever the ball landed, depending on trajectory, it would bounce and roll out a lot more than expected. The greens were completely unforgiving and lightening fast. They were so baked out that there were dead patches on a few.
Improving
I've played three times since the course reopened a couple of months ago, and it's been better each time. Fairways were in good shape yesterday, and the greens are back to their quick speeds. Fun round.
Nice Round
Course is challenging from all tee boxes. Bunkers are in play on all holes, quick undulating multi-tiered greens, tough rough. Course management is a must when playing this course. Only negative was a foursome of poor golfers who backed up the whole course.
Nice course
Overall very nice course. However they need to remind the maintainence staff to stay the f*ck away when a golfer is over his ball. This one moron almost got a ball planted in his ear!!
Good Rock soon to be Great
Beautiful layout, fairways and greens in great condition. Tees, Traps and Rough need work. This course could be one of the more difficult courses on Long Island especially if you don't keep your approach shots below the hole. A down hill putt will fast become an up hill putt. The breaks on the greens are also bigger than on other LI courses. Its great to see the Rock back, I can't wait to the whole facility reopens.
The course has great views.
Great Course , Spectacular views. Worth the drive to get there. Nicely kept.
Tough Greens
Nice course, nice scenery, some pretty holes. The Ranger follows you around. The greens were tough, you could say it was a gimmick.
Summer Heat
We really like playing this course. Usually, 6-7 times during the summer while we are out. Course in good condition. Greens roll great. YOU NEED WATER ON THE COURSE!!! it's the summer time, no halfway house open, no water coolers throughout the course, and the cart girl seemed like she was just driving around. Several times while on the green, she just drove right by not even looking at us.One time she went to pass us on cart path and we actually had to block her from driving by again. Her reaction, "Oh, you want something?" Yes!!!!!!!
I'm not a review writer generally, but this situation needs major improvement.
Great Rock - will play again
I had a visitor in from outside the US and wanted to give them a taste of LI golf course's. They weren't disappointed. The course is challenging and aesthetically pleasing. We will be back.
Very challenging course
Numerous bunkers and many slopes. Great challenge and very scenic for Long Island. Must says one of the top 3 courses I've played on LI.
Nice to be back!
It's great to have this course to play on the North fork, Long Island in the heart of wine country. Greens are tough, course is challenging and fun to play. Focus, Focus and Focus.
Beautiful views
Enjoyed everything except bunkers. They were mostly hard otherwise great day.
nice course
beautiful course,,,but wet and soggy,,,not sure from sprinkler system or had some rain or combination
tricky greens
Tricky greens..some with visible slopes, and some with subtle breaks. Greens were fast. Enjoyed the round, and plan to play again soon.
The new great rock
This is my first time back in about 3 years. They were closed for a while I think a new owner just purchased the place. He is spending lots of money remodeling the place even though it looked good before he bought it. The course is in great condition. It will only get better with this new owner

Thank you for your feedback. I apologize that you had a less than positive experience with us on Sunday, August 17. 4.5 hours on a Sunday isn't ideal but it isn't terrible either. Not sure where you play on the weekends that you play in less but thank you for the feedback nonetheless.
We hope you come back to give us another try. Thanks again.
