The best course in Eastern PA
Early spring and the course conditions
Were excellent. As usual, all tee boxes, fairways and greens are perfect. Have played here spring, summer and fall and
the maintenance crew and groundskeeper
Do a phenomenal job in keeping the fairways and greens in top shape. The
Greens run true. Challenging, long course
If played from championship or advanced tee boxes. White tees are shorter but still
Present a challenge. I would definitely recommend Jack Frost to anyone looking
To play a "real" course.
One of the most pristine courses I've played.
I appreciate a pristine well taken care of course with the most strict attention to detail. This course is just a picture of perfection. Four tier tee boxes groomed like the greens. The fairways cut at a perfect height that's laid out like a rug. The ruff is better then 75% of other courses fairways. Sand in traps glistens like diamonds. Drop dead gorgeous holes. Every hole without exception looked like a picture out of a magazine. It has the look of a big PGA course, but is playable to all golfers no matter the skill level.
The course has a little of all hazards and difficulties. Well, more than a little degree of difficulty. It's just that we overlook the degree of difficulty because we seem to get overwhelmed by the beauty of the scape which surrounds us. Definitely something special to experience. You will be as impressed as I, but at the same time a bit surprised when you see the lunchonette/pro shop. I say lunchonette and not clubhouse because it's quite small in comparison to the course. Don't let that stop you from enjoying probably one of the nicest courses in Ny ,Nj, Pa.
Wonderful experience
1st time at course and I had a wonderful, great experience. Staff friendly! Course was in outstanding condition especially since it is nearing end of season. Bunkers great condition, tee box well groom and greens were still rolling fast. Pace of play was a bit slow (5 hrs, 10 mins), especially after turn. Fortunately weather was outstanding and made waiting more tolerable. Will absolutely play here again, as much as possible.
Nice Course
Course was in good shape. Pace of play was a little slow.
Great
First time playing this course and I'll definitely be back. Amazing conditions for October.
Fantastic Experience - Great Course!
From Ohio - I was cruising through Binghamton NY and realized how close I was to New Jersey. Called a buddy up that lives in NJ and we decided to find a course between us.
My searching around led me to Jack Frost National (I booked tee times for 3 of us on GolfNow) and we both jetted toward the course. We were surprised. We've actually discussed meeting there again before the end of the year.
We teed off at 3:30PM and basically had the course to ourselves. It's a very nice course laid out on a large piece of land. You really can't see other holes from the hole you're on. It was quiet, well-kept and we didn't see anyone. Large fairways, elevation changes... We had the course to ourselves. This is not a links course as someone referred to in another review.
An absolute pleasurable golfing experience.
Because we were travelling, we weren't really prepared to golf so we had to get a concession from the golf Pro and he was very understanding and allowed us some leeway. Thank You!
We will golf here again. This is not a good course, it's a great course and we will golf this course again soon. :)
nice views
very nice course but no advice about greens being done before you book a round!!!. drove 1h45m to play so not to happy.
Amazing layout, great conditions, fast greens
The course was in great condition. We got a deal off their website. We played at 1:30 on a Thursday afternoon and didn't see anyone until we got to hole 15 and caught up to a threesome. We played in 3 and half hours, even with hitting a few extra practice shots because no one was behind us. The fairways were in prefect shape, fairly large and got plenty of roll. The ball sat up nicely in them. The rough was very healthy, especially around the greens. The greens were rolling very quick, which I love. The ball would rollout very nicely, just had to start it on the right line. Even with the greens being fast, they held shots and you could get the ball to spin. The course itself has a good amount of elevation change but not enough that you have any blind tee shots or blind shots into greens. It is a large course and you won't see another hole on the hole you're playing. Just about each hole is tree lined so you will have a long day if you are spraying the ball off the tee. There is 5 sets of tees so play the correct one and you will have a fun round of golf. Get there early and take advantage of the grass driving range, chipping green with a bunker and a nice large putting green. Take note of the breaks and slope of the putting green and hit some of those long downhill putts, putts up and down a slope and putts with 10 feet of break. You'll be glad you did. Buy the yardage book also. Plenty of fairway bunkers and doglegs you need to know distances to, unless you have a GPS unit. The only downfall, which isn't a huge deal to me is that there isn't an "official" clubhouse. They have added a nice outdoor pavilion with TVs and a snack bar which was not there last year that I remember. Anyways, play this course. Great conditions and it will test your game.
Nice, well kept, true links course!
This is a nice course, well laid out! You don't see the other holes. Tricky, greens don't break as much as you think. They have a starter and a ranger, so the course was well monitored. They added a new outdoor pavilion! It's great! Bathrooms close by, nice to sit out after round. a must play if you are in this area!
Great golf course
This course was an excellent layout and in excellent condition. The area had so much rain the days before we played it and it was cart path only the day we played but it did not matter. It was very enjoyable and fun and with the rates we got on Golfnow.com it was a true bargain. We can't wait to go back and play it when it is fast and firm.
AMAZING course... Not for average golfers
This course is gorgeous first of all. Every hole is distinctly different. The rough in spots is nearly 5 inches long and the greens were rolling about 11.5-12. Every hole is guarded by bunkers off the tee and around the green. The green complexes are average size for a public course. The tips say 7,256 with a slope of 139 but it doesn't play that long with many downhill shots and doglegs. THIS COURSE IS NOT FOR THE AVERAGE HACKER OR NEW GOLFER!! Don't attempt anything past the whites if you can't hit 250 and fairly straight. You can move forward but that doesn't make the rough thinner or the greens easier, you simply take a few of the fairway bunkers out of play. The rates are phenomenal for such a high caliber course. The club house is small but there is apparel and food, so what more do you need?! The staff is friendly and always willing to help.
Good all around course, quiet relaxing
First time playing this course I'd heard so much about. The course was in really good shape everywhere. Greens were impressively good and consistent. Hey aren't overly challenging though, which is fine. The traps were really raked well for a mountain course, although a few river rocks were found in some I looked at. Luckily I only ended up in one this day.
Fairways and tees all good. I didn't find any stones or garbage under my divots, and the fairways played as good as they looked.
I got to play alone the entire round and I really appreciated how quiet it is there. No holes parallel each other, some nice wildlife, and only an occasional sound of vehicles. For relaxing it matched the best I'd played, comparing to a course on the north side of state college on a mountain. Loved the remote feeling.
Practice areas were nice, although small if it,were busy.
Clubhouse was a bit underwhelming for a resort. No customers view of the course or much of an area to sit outside. They have a bar but I didn't eat or drink.
Because of its reputation I expected it to be more challenging. Some holes were head scratchers, but if you play "on" you can score. The woods didn't butt up to the fairway, so there's some cushion.
There's a large selection for tees, so I f you're a long or good hitter you can add some difficulty.
I played on a weekday afternoon, so it was affordable. Not sure I'd play the weekend rate, but I'm a little cheap. Of the approximately 25 different courses I played the past two years in Pennsylvania, I'd give this my second favorite. Woodloch Springs is the hardest I've played, but Jack Frost was a good mix of challenge yet not abusive, and Nicely but among the woods.
Nice challenging course
We played in July and the course was in excellent shape. There is no clubhouse to speak of just a small pro shop and food bar. The course is well laid out and challenging, it is tough but not too difficult. We played the advanced tees and enjoyed the course thoroughly.
Great golf course
Played here many times. Wonderful course. Greens a bit slow otherwise five stars easily. Played in 4 hours 20 minutes. The back is more difficult than the front. Every hole is different and for a 15 hadicapper it is quite challenging. With that in mind it is a course that makes you want to come back again and again.
Our round at Jack Frost National
What a great course layout. The course winds through the mountain with lots of elevation changes and no two holes are alike. The course was in great shape, good job by the staff.
A Poconos Gem
This course is simply awesome. The drive for me is over an hour but I take it at least twice a year. Well worth the time. Fairways are nice and tight like a Florida course, but it's defiantly not flat. Lots of doglegs and fairway traps. Huge undulating greens that make every putt a challenge. You never see another fairway the whole round. If you like golf, this is the place for you.
Excellent Course!I
This is, imo, the best public course in Eastern Pennsylvania and easily the best in the Pocono/Scranton/WB area. Some mountain courses can be extremely tight/frustrating and manufactured. Jack Frost is perhaps the best, most well thought out mountain track I've ever played.
That includes courses in the Rockies. For the money this is much better than the Cascades Course at The Homestead in Virginia. The fairways are wide and there's ample space if you don't find the short grass. JFN doesn't play overly long either. A solid player who doesn't hit the ball very far (230-240 driver) can get around from the black tees due to the numerous elevated tee boxes. I hit it in the 260-270 range had very friendly distances most of the day.
The greens are what makes this course tricky. Almost everyone has a defined ridge running through it. If you're on the wrong level 3 and 4 putts become a distinct possibility.
The overall conditions were very good. I'm a stickler and I say that with confidence. Ball marks were limited on all par 4 and 5's. The greens here in general are private club caliber. Tee boxes were neatly kept and the bunkers are in excellent shape by public courses standards. There were a couple dry spots due the recent lack of rain but that's nitpicking.
Once the new clubhouse is completed this place will be first class through and through. If you live within a 2 hours radius it's worth the drive.
Beautiful
1st time here beautiful course. Great views. The course was in great shape. For a mountain course it wasn't as difficult as some but still challenging. Pace was a little slow some newbies a head of us but we weren't in a hurry, enjoyed the day. It's looks like they are building a new club house the current one is a trailer. Staff was very nice. Will return its on our way home from the Poconos.
Great course / friendly staff
Starter allowed our threesome to play before a large group. We never saw them behind us again. We appreciated the nice gesture
