Fantasic Experience
I accidentally booked the wrong date and the staff was unbelievably helpful in ensuring I got out to play. The course was definitely a lot more strategic than some of the area's courses and the greens were in phenomenal shape.
Good Challenge Lots of Variety.
I played a late morning round with my son. The other twosome was a no show so we played alone. Pace of play was great. We played in 3:45. We caught the group in front of us on the 5th hole. We saw the Ranger 4 or 5 times throughout the round so good to know they are monitoring pace. 15 minute spacing really helps pace of play.
This course is fun and challenging. It offers a lot of variety with three very different par 5’s and five unique par 3’s including an island green and a challenging down hill 18th hole that played to 195 yards that is tight on the right with water on the left. All the par fours are unique as well with elevation changes that requires two - three clubs more or less. There is also a drivable par 4. It’s a 6500 yard course from the back that plays a lot longer due to the elevation changes. It’s a par 70.
Course conditions were very good. Most of the greens were in excellent shape. A couple of them had a little disease beginning to pop up. They putted fairly fast and true. Again some of the fairways have a little disease as well but nothing that impacts play. A well struck shot in the fairway was rewarded with another 15-20 yards of roll. The tee boxes were all in good shape. The rough was lush and full. Miss a fairway or green and you’ll pay the price. A crisply struck shot from the rough will get you to the green but it might roll out and through. If you’re off a bit, the rough will grab your club.
One suggestion for the maintenance crew.... you guys are doing a great job with the course but suggest you start on the 18th hole and make your way back to the first hole. This way golfers will only encounter the maintenance crew on one hole. We ran into the mowers on five or six holes because they started at one and worked their way back. All course should do this unless I’m missing something as to why they start at 1.
Best greens in PA so far
This was our first round post COVID lockdown, and we couldn't have been happier. Even with many new limitations on the staff they were all awesome and accommodating. Their greens were the best rolling BY FAR that we have played in PA since moving back from AZ last year (Out of about 10-15 courses). THis course is WAY better than many others charging more or the same rates. Highly recommend.
Quick foursome round
Played quickly under 4 hours with all four in separate carts. Course in excellent condition but rough a little thick for my taste.
Very nice
First time but will definitely give it some more play
Transfusions
Bella Vista is one of the area’s gems !! The greens are always in great shape and the course is very well kept. Play slows a little on the weekends but it is worth the wait ! The par 3 island green on the back 9 is always a treat to play. Two tiered green, that is big enough to hit, but don’t miss. The drop area is tougher than the tee shot ! The Monday day bartender makes a perfect transfusion to loosen the muscles or make you for get the 16 - 3 putts you made.
Experience the Island Green.
Of the many courses in the area, that I have played, this has all the challenges you will see or want as a test of your golfing abilities.
The par 5 first hole will put your ball placement to the test. A slight dogleg left on your Tee shot leaves you in a position to either lay-up or take a chance to go over the narrow ravine with your 2nd shot.
The green is elevated and runs sharply left toward the bunker. If you walk away with a par, you will feel confident. But wait, there is more..
Hole no. 2 is waiting for revenge. Its fairway is elevated and guarded by bunkers both left and right, then goes down hill for a second up hill shot to a large elevated green guarded by bunkers above and right of the green.
Holes 3 thru 9 are designed to lull you to feel it over, but your day is just getting started..
This is a course that will challenge your golf knowledge and skills..lots of character and good size greens.
No.10 is a par 5 with an up hill drive, then the fairway dives downhill and to the right. The large green is elevated and guarded by bunkers both left and right.
Holes 11, 12 and 13 have their characteristics too.
Then you are standing on the Tee at no. 14. Surrounded by water, this hole has a 2 tier pin location and will challenge your club selection. Swing with confidence and you might make par..
Holes 15, par 4, 16, par 5, and 17 par 4 are challenging too.
When I came to no.18, I was ready to call it a day, but, I was stareing at a narrow down hill par 3 with a pond on the left and spectators on the patio watching you.
Make par here and you get a round of applause.
Disappointing
The course conditions have deteriorated significantly. The areas around the greens are burned out. The fringes and greens have crabgrass. The greens weren’t mowed for Saturday play and were very slow. The bunkers weren’t raked, some were hard from watering. Just my opinion but either the greens keeper doesn’t know what they are doing or management isn’t giving them the resources to maintain it.
Awesome course
We love playing this course! It’s a little far away but worth the drive. The course is in great shape and a little challenging!!!
What happened to this place???
This course used to be the best local track around. It was always in great condition and was well maintained. Over the past few years the condition of this course has really declined. I used to brag to my local golf friends how great this course was and how it was always in pristine condition. Nowadays the tee boxes are in rough shape, the bunkers are borderline unplayable, and the fairways are not much better. This used to be my go to local course but not so much any more. I hope they make some changes to what they are doing to make it how it used to be. I guarantee I am not the only one that feels this way.
