Verde River Golf & Social Club
About
Verde River Golf & Social Club (formerly known as Tegavah Golf Club and Vista Verde Golf Course) has a desert style layout that features panoramic views of Four Peaks, the Superstition Mountains, Weaver's Needle, and the Tonto National Forest. In addition to the scenery, the golf course also presents interesting challenges such as subtle contours and desert wasteland areas that guard the holes. The greens lead to generous landing areas that require precision and length. Although only one water hazard comes into play on one hole, there are several sand bunkers strategically situated throughout. Verde River Golf & Social Club offers five sets of teeboxes to offer suitable challenges for players of all skill levels and abilities.

Overall very nice course, great condition, fun to play.
Ok - so it doesn't have a clubhouse or much of a proshop. but this course is a little gem that is well worth the drive and is great value $64. It is in a new subdivision (not many sold) but the course is in great condition and has some challenging but very fair holes. The cart girl was around about 3 times on a pretty slow day. Nice range, no gps but well marked. Awesome condition. Loved it.
Amazing Value
Was super pleased with my round at Vista Verde. Yes the course is low on amenities, but not those that really matter. The range is great and free, and the course is in super shape. If those are what matter to you this is your place. There's no clubhouse, place for lunch, etc but i'm not here for that.
And the value? Unbeatable. It's half the price of other similar quality courses on here and the course is immaculate - greens rolling very nicely, comparing favorably to other recently seeded courses.
I dont understand why the greens fees are so low when the quality is this high. But i hope it remains that way!
Everyone Knows There's No Clubhouse . . . So Its About The Course
And it is a very good course. To the perimeters of the fairways and the adjacent rough (mainly desert wash-like terrain), the course has the look, feel and play of a top level course. Jump in the cart and take a short adventure to the next hole and you soon realize this jewel of a course sits in a stalled-out housing development--a casualty of the housing bubble burst. If you can ignore this short-coming, however, the course is everything you could ask for in a round of golf. The fairways are all well maintained, the greens are consistent and well manicured from hole to hole, and the course has some good challenges. The surrounding views of the McDowel Mountains, Tom's Thumb, and Four Peaks are also quite spectacular. Apparently, the course has now been bought by a new development group and the promise is that more money is going to be dumped into facilities and accommodations (a clubhouse is actually in its future??). If so, this course is on its way to becoming a premier facility. Better play it now before the green fees breach the $100 mark.
Worth the drive
Very nice layout and in very good condition right after overseeding. The staff is friendly and helpful, but the cart lady has no fear - drove right up on me while I was hitting at least four times - and a noisy gas cart to exacerbate the distraction. Great views of the four peaks. It's an extra ten miles past the next nearest course, but half the price of the other Scottsdale choices...the value definitely makes up for the extra drive!
Not overly challenging but greens &fairways well maintained for early season.
Without a clubhouse, reception was well handled and all your staff very accommodating. The course was well maintained for early season and the greens were decent speed. In all, I enjoyed the golf experience. The only disappointment was the random dirt cart paths thruout. Because it was so dry, and I just happened to be following the other cart, made it major dusty & choking. Hey, Still a good experience. See you again sometime.
Make the drive...it is worth it
Course is spectacular. Even after overseeding, the fairways are in great shape and the greens were a huge positive surprise. The vistas were amazing as well. Price is a bargain with the course being one of the best we have played and the views and atmosphere were worth the trip alone. Wonderful course, great practice area and a real bargain.
Great Desert course, play it if you get the chance.
We played right at the end of over seeding. Course was in great shape and a beautiful venue to play. My first time playing a true desert course and it was most enjoyable. It's well worth the trip out there
Love this course
Played the course on Monday as well. Just a few days after they opened after over seeding, so it was still cart path only. Who cares! The course is in phenomenal condition -tees, fairways, bunkers and greens. I guess cart path only is keeping golfers away, but to me it was pure joy. 3 hours on Monday, and 3 hours and 15 minutes today. Go play!!!
this is a must play
well worth the drive from the valley. I will be making several return trips.
was wonderful
Has great views and you don't have to worry about houses lining the fair ways....
Great new course.
Beautiful course, and I loved the many choices of T-boxes and combinations thereof
A great course for the value
Had heard about this course from friends so thought I would give it a try. Even though it is a ways out there it is worth the drive. I will play it again. The course is in very good shape even thought they are going to overseed around 9/20. The staff are very friendly and helpful.
Great conditions for the summer
Vista Verde offers an excellent course for the summer at a great value. The track is very interesting with challenging holes and greens. Staff is very friendly and helpful. I will come back for sure!!
Nice course, customer service was pathetic at best
The course is challenging and well maintained, but don't expect any frills. No clubhouse, or "modern" restrooms (port-o-potties and bushes only) for that matter and the cart paths have not been fully developed, but if you are in it purely for the challenge of the course, the views and the game...you certainly won't be disappointed. As for the staff, leave all expectations that they might be helpful at home. For being one of the top rated courses in the Phoenix metro area they are desperately lacking in the customer service department. Additionally when concerns were brought to the attention of the "Director of Golf" he was flat out dismissive and could have cared less.
Very good condition
Vista Verde was in very good condition the day I played. The greens were firm and fairly quick. The fairways and tees were excellent and the bunkers well manicured. They have good practice facilities and also a friendly staff. They also have 5 sets of tees so any caliber player can really enjoy their round. Highly recommend this course!
great well maintained course
could not have had a nicer day to play on a great course. Challenging enough without being super tough.
Really enjoyed the time there.
Worth the drive, minimal changes in elevation
The course was in excellent condition. Green grass everywhere. Course was soft and greens were receptive. Cold water available everywhere. Cart girl was seen a few times. Hot humid day. Nice practice facilities, free range balls are a plus. Service was excellent. I get the feeling that this being a new course they are trying to build a reputation so that they can sell lots in the new development. It will probably work if they keep the course in the shape it's in and keep up the great service. It was a fairly flat course, but still lots of undulation, and easy to loose a ball if you're not accurate off the tee. Must play.
Worth the drive
Hard times has it's benefits.
Vista Verde was built as mentioned elsewhere during the real estate boom with expense home sites all around. The development went bust in 07 with only a hand full of homes, but the golf course was completed and has become a destination in the higher elevations of the north east valley above McDowell Mountains. The views are amazing in every direction and when the wind isn't blowing, it's so quiet, your ears ring. It may be about to change, the property is in the process of being sold to a new developer, and the original plan to build high end housing around could resume in the not to distant future, so don't delay!
Conditions are excellent, and perfectly manicured. The greens are uniformly green and cut tight, but are a little course giving the ball a tendency to bounce a bit. Some of the sand is a bit hard packed as well, but not a detractor.
The track is challenging but fair, with a 600 yard par 5 #17 from the tips to test the longest of the long ball hitters. No goofy boutique holes, or funky hazards. Not much water either, but brutally cruel bunker placement both along the fairways and around the greens force well thought club selection and shot placement. Most greens, while not elevated per say, are raised and penalize lazy play. Watch for the washes that cross the fairways, their placement requires thought off the tee as well.
Staff is top notch, the range excellent, balls are included with your round. Putting, chipping and sand practice areas are great as well.
There are no facilities on site at all and no club house. Free bottled water is provided in an iced cooler on your cart, there is no water otherwise on the coarse and you can reload on the turn. A fairly well stocked beverage cart circulates as well.
Very nice desert course that challenges you to work on ball placement.
This is a true desert course with washes in all the right places to challenge you ball placement skills. Course is very well maintained from tee boxes to greens. The only thing that was missing was a club house at the Turn. Cart service is excellent and 4 bottles of water with Ice in the chest was a great touch. Staff was friendly and starter gave a great briefing prior to start. Pace of play was good and course is monitored to maintain pace but in a very friendly way. I highly recommend this course as it is a gem in the desert.
Well kept secret
No clubhouse to speak of an limited facilities may turn off female players. This course is as good at those 3 times the price for the golf experience.
