Verde River Golf & Social Club
About
Verde River Golf & Social Club (formerly known as Tegavah Golf Club and Vista Verde Golf Course) has a desert style layout that features panoramic views of Four Peaks, the Superstition Mountains, Weaver's Needle, and the Tonto National Forest. In addition to the scenery, the golf course also presents interesting challenges such as subtle contours and desert wasteland areas that guard the holes. The greens lead to generous landing areas that require precision and length. Although only one water hazard comes into play on one hole, there are several sand bunkers strategically situated throughout. Verde River Golf & Social Club offers five sets of teeboxes to offer suitable challenges for players of all skill levels and abilities.

Course was in very good shape.
A little less water in fairways, no roll on drives
Ball plugging other than that great.
Desert Jewel
One of the best desert courses I have ever played, no homes around course, perfect views of mountains, fun course that is fair with superb layout, greens, bunkers, range all first class. An awesome tranquil feel, just you and the desert terrain, views on every tee, a great experience and a MUST PLAY!!
I like the fact that it has no lavish club house because it is just you, nature and the course as the way golf should be. If you are one of those golfers that likes club house amenities and pampering then this is not for you. But if you are a player that shows up to play golf and wants value/prime condition and desert golf at its best then this is for you.
Make sure you put this on your must play courses list for AZ.
course is over watered
Tee time was 630 am while playing I had my ball pulg 6 times near the greens and fairway. my drives would plug or roll aprox.5 to 10 feet after landing in the fairway.
still a fun course to play just cut back on the watering a bit.
Awesome experience!!!
I played on Friday and it had to be one of the best golf experiences I have had in quite some time! We drove up from Maricopa (1 1/2 hours) but it was well worth the drive. The course was in great shape, the views spectacular and every hole was distinct and presented it's own challenge. You definitely want to think your way around this course. Also, we teed off at 7:00AM and never saw another person on the course. It was like having our own private course! All this for only $24!!!!
If you have not played here yet, definitely put it at the top of your list. Unless, of course, you need the comfort of a clubhouse and real restrooms (instead of Porta Potties) on the course.
Great Course
This is a great course for anyone to play. Challenging from the Blacks and improves accordingly as you move up. Well maintained, I found none of the "brown" some people saw. I suggest they stay out of the desert!!!!!!! Great value......so don't play it, i like the ease of tempo in the pay..........Really don't miss this gem of the desert......
good shape for summer
the course was ingood shape for summer. a little wet in some areas, but no real dry burnt out areas.
Secluded relaxing golf
Course was in good condition. Fairways had some brown spots but not bad for middle of summer. However there were some areas that were in poor shape with fresh sod laid down. Greens were in good shape and as always were firm and medium fast. I have played there when they were much faster. overall it was a great value for the fee. Pretty much had the course to our selves so no pressure to play really fast.
This coarse is scenic
Wish they had a real bathroom available for use and water for drinking on the coarse. Otherwise the coarse was a great value.
Poor condition.
The greens, fairways, and green approaches have been apparently stressed. The result is a lot of important landing areas on the fairways and approach areas to the greens are brown, over watered, muddy areas. The greens reflect the same conditions. I wasn't informed about the course condition beforehand, and I think that is inexcusable.
breathtaking views!!
I really enjoyed this course. the layout was challenging and the greens were in fairly good shape for july in Arizona. I look forward to playing this course again now that i am more familiar with it. It is definitely a "must play" for any phoenician.
Amazing desert views
Course was in good shape and greens were true and consistent. Generous fairways on most of the long holes but still easy to find a bunker or two. Played from the gold (blue) tees and it was a good test of golf. Would easily recommend this course to anyone. Spartan accomodations but the staff was super friendly.
Difficult for a 20 handicapper
1) the fairways had many brown spots although the fairways were watered.
2) the average golfer would be helped a lot if the greens were 30% larger and a whole lot flatter. These greens would give pro's fits.
Best deal in Scottsdale
Really enjoyed this course. This course is only about golf. it is in a housing project with no houses. So no clubhouse or running water. they give you bottled water on ice. I played with a regular (T-Bone) and it was like having a personal caddie. Putts break toward the mountain peeks to the east. Greens and fairways are nice. Had a wonderful time and will be back next time I am in Scottsdale!!
Excellent Course. Highly recommend.
I have played this course years ago and was suprised to find it still a hidden gem. We played Fathers Day and aside from a woman "learning to play" in the group ahead it was a flawless day. Was happy to see a ranger occasionally to pick up the pace.
Beautiful course
It is a lovely course with great landscape and spectacular post-card view. The course is very well maintained despite the low season with 109F heat when I play. I really enjoy playing there with a friend and a couple of friendly paired-up brothers. I would highly recommend a try to anybody.
Great variety of holes.
Played the course for the first time after my son recommended it. It's a course you have to learn. Long hitters don't have much of an advantage as the angle one chooses off the tees must be correct; there's plenty of trouble for a long, errant drive. Many greens have multiple levels and you must hit your approach to the right level to have a realistic chance at birdie. Greens have rye grass and they can be somewhat bumpy this time of year, with subtle breaks. Fairways are in great shape. A great variety of holes and many ways to play them. I managed to stumble into three doubles bogies but hit an epic shot out of the fairway bunker on 18 , a 180 yard low stinger 3 wood that curled left to right with the slope, missing the bunker to the left of the green and settling 15 feet under the hole, with water close by on the right. Missed the birdie but made an easy par while my three long-hitting companions made bogie and worse. Lastly, the views at Vista Verde may be among the most spectacular in the Greater Phoenix area. Great value and well worth the drive north!
phenominal views
The panoramic views provide an excellent back drop for your shots. Greaat example of Arizona desert golf. The staff was friendly enough, just don't hope for a hot dog at the turn. There is no clubhouse or permanent restrooms yet. I would recommend this course for vacationing golfers. Just bring sunscreen, extra water, and don't enter the desert without a snake club.
Worth the drive
Best kept secret in the Phoenix area. Only concern is no drinking water on the course during play. Staff gives you water bottles which in the summer can be cumbersome. There is no club house which didn't factor for us.
Great Course - Need a Ranger
I played as part of a threesome yesterday, May 31st, teeing off at 9:30 am. The course was in very good shape and the views are incredible. Well worth the drive out and the summer rate of $33.00.
My only complaint was the backup on the course, even though the parking lot was about 1/4 full. There were two twosomes in front of our group, and from what they told us, a foursome in front of them that was slowing things down. Not sure why the twosomes didn't play through, but we had to wait on every shot starting at about the third hole. At one point there were 4 groups on the par 5 17th - one on the green, two on the fairway and the group behind us waiting on the tee box. We did not see a ranger during the entire round. When I mentioned the slow play to the attendant after the round, his attitude was "The foursome got around in their alotted 4.5 hours, so it's no big deal."
Beautiful course, horrible course rules and enforcement attitudes
Love the course, we were even thinking of looking into property for building a house. I wrote a review two weeks ago outlining how much I liked the course, of course, I was not hassled over the water containers with ice I brought, and was surprised when our other twosome was allowed to bring their little cooler with them. Last weekend not only was my cooler with ice and water not allowed, but I was hassled over bringing my own water bottles and zip lock bags of ice, "NO REFRESHMENTS" allowed. I took my water and ice anyway, over the objections of the guy arguing with me. I do not consider water and ice a refreshment, but rather a necessity, especially when the ice in their cooler is not for human consumption. I have never been hassled over water and ice before at any course, anywhere, and will not return to Vista Verte either for this discussion again.
sounds like you need to adjust your trajectory a bit.
