Always dependable
Course was in good shape. It has a good layout and is player friendly.
Great round
Course in great condition , good pace of play . Good value for golf .
Ok course - nothing spectacular
Pace of play was good. Course was pretty basic. Some challenging greens. Slopes on greens and pretty small compared to other courses.
Much improvement from the past
Played here for the first time in a few years. Was reluctant to try it based on past issues with drainage on the course and the very wet spring we have had. However, we were pleasantly surprised by the fine conditioning of this course. It is apparent that they have worked hard to improve the conditions and fix some of the problems with water that were hindering this course previously. Not quite perfect yet, but this course has a really fun layout and we were reminded why we used to play here frequently. Will put it back on the list to play again.
Love this course!
With all the rain we've had in Michigan this spring, Willow Metroparks Golf Course was in great condition. There were four holes that were cart path only, and it was understandably so. The ball washes all had soapy water for cleaning. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I would go back there anytime, and am planning a golf outing there in August.
Great layout. A lot of character. Also some elevation changes. Putting and chipping greens. Driving range.
The course was in real good shape. Played long do to recent rain. Greens were healthy but a little slow. Lots of undulations. I was able to be aggressive and made a lot of putts. I only remember one green with some bare spots. Course has a lot of bunkers and they were well maintained.
Enjoyed the round.
NEGLECTED
Played Willow today for the first time in a few years. I (we) could not be more disappointed. This course is in major decline! The greens are bumpy and severely damaged making putting a “hit and hope” affair. Grass on the fairways and tee boxes are covered with weeds. Many areas show turf damage, patches of dirt, etc. The pace of play was ridiculously slow. We were informed by staff that new metro park management has decided to remove all rangers/player assistants leaving course etiquette up for grabs! It’s shameful to show such disregard and disrespect for the game and for players, especially at prime time on a sunny Saturday in August! And charging full price for a 5+ hour round for a threesome! I (we) will not return and advise others to do the same until they make drastic improvements to this course.
Great location
This course has all you need to sharpen your skills as a golfer. Length and contour. Nice course with happy people.
Staff was great!
Course was in great condition, Bob was great to talk to while on the course, he helped speed up the pace of play!
Detroit Trip
Really like the course layout. Greens were in nice condition. Some of the fairways looked like they had some water damage. Will play next year when we are in the Detroit area.
Great course/bad luck
Due to recent torrential rains, Willow Metro Park Golf Course had several areas of water damage. But the damaged areas did not affect the fun of playing this course. And I’m sure this great layout will return to A-1 shape soon.
Every club in the bag is used when you play Willow.
**WARNING - Course is under water June 2018**
There was no warning until arriving at the course that half of it is underwater. 3 holes are converted to par 3 because the holes are unplayable. Cart path only. All the holes had a few puddles to half the hole under water. Lost at least 5 balls in puddles or buried in mud.
Course specific: the front nine is very flat and only mild interest. The back nine is much better with elevation changes and much prettier holes. There were multiple players blasting music and saw a group of 7 on one hole. There is obviously no supervision of this public course. Warning, play at your own risk! Not worth $25 and I don't recommend this course while it is wet.
