West/North at Tanglewood - The Lion

        About
Tanglewood, also known as "The Lion," boasts 27 holes of championship golf, divided into the North, South, and West nines. The holes are played in three different 18-hole combinations. The North/West Course starts with the gentlest nine before moving on to the newest and arguably the most challenging nine. The undulating landscape provides a soft bowl-shape to many of the holes that help to keep errant shots in play by corralling them away from the bordering backyards. Water hazards come into play on seven holes on the West nine and the greens are also guarded heavily by pins. The West's third hole is one of the most memorable holes on the golf course. This tricky par 4 gets progressively more challenging as you move from the wide fairways to the steep and intrusive bunkers that lead to the green.

Terrific Newcomb course
For a course built in a subdivision this is a really great layout. In pretty good shape. Great greens.
Slow play
Haven't played here in a while and was pleased with the condition. Greens are fast !Only complaint was group of three was all over the place and average drive distance was 135 yards. Teeing off of Blue boxes, Didn't rake the bunkers and drove carts up to green. Not a Ranger in sight. Was lucky they only played Nine..
Tanglewood has taken a downturn
I understand a 5 hour round on a nice fall day but after 5 hours we still had 5 holes left. Called the clubhouse after not seeing a ranger the entire time playing. Clubhouse sent someone out but he decided the guys holding everyone up were “fun” to be around. We drove over to see what was going on and we were greeted with “it is what it is. Go back to your box and get ready to hit.” Ranger and the group he was with tried to explain this is Sunday golf and we should be use to it. They couldn’t be more wrong and the course and it’s staff are the worst I’ve meet in my 5+ years golfing southeast Michigan. Don’t play here. Pheasant run or golden fox to the south or anything in Oakland county are great alternatives for better courses and definitely better people.
A game needed
This is a superior layout in great condition.
I scored poorly, making the mistake of playing back tees.
Over 7000 yards too much given my 16 hcp. The par threes are extremely difficult from back there.
Will play again. Next time I’ll play white or silver.
Great Golf Experience
My wife and I played the South/Wets nines. Th staff was absolutely great from the Bag Drop to Check in to Starters and Rangers. The course is in great condition. The greens were not fast but well-manicured and rolled true. The carts paths had been recently repaved, and they were outstanding. We saw the cart girl 3x during the round. The range is not very large but has several targets at marked distances. We hit ff the mats.
Tanglewood delivers a private club level experience. It is worth the drive and I will return.
Great course!
Great course, only saw the cart girl on hole 2 and drove right past. Bunkers could be better but overall course is in great shape!
