Coyote Preserve Golf Club in Fenton is one of the only courses in the area designed by Arnold Palmer. The course has a hilly terrain that provides plenty of elevation changes a well as stunning views. Tumbling across deep ravines and native wetlands, the layout requires many carries over dramatic depressions and water hazards but many are seemingly intimidating but actually quite reasonable. Massive, finely sculpted bunkers strategically frame the greensides of many holes. While some of them are manageable, others are deep and sod-faced. The tricky hazards in conjunction with the dramatic elevations demand both accuracy and creative shot-making. The golf course has a memorable finish with a par-5, risk-reward hole. There is ample room off the tee on this downhill, dogleg left hole and it presents a few different options for the second shot. With some thought, scoring par is definitely a possibility.

Challenging but fair

The course was in very good condition; facilities were clean and staff was very friendly. My only "complaint" is we played the first 14 holes in 3 hours, then caught group(s) in front of us and played the last 4 holes in 1.5 hours. As with most courses it seems, the lack of an on course marshall to keep play moving is a problem; and the only reason I rated this outing a "4 star" versus a "5 star".

Challenging but very friendly course.

Course was well maintained. Very friendly staff. Greens were a lot faster than they appeared. Pace of play was excellent for our foursome of 2 men and 2 women.
Only problem was no food available after our round.

Will recommend course to my friends. Will be back.

great layout and interesting holes

the course is beautiful and well designed. The issue is that the bunker sand was bad and had rocks in areas. The greens were very slow. The pro shop said they did not have much rain overnight but some bunkers were full of water and I don't think the greens were cut. I played once last year and the greens had been aerated so I was hoping for greens comparable to the rest of the course and was not happy with them.

Fun, Challenging Layout

Would love to go back for a second time and play 16-18 (poor man's Amen Corner) with a more level head. Awesome scenery and challenge. If the course was in pristine shape, it wouldn't be a golfnow hot deal. Thought bunkers could use more sand and greens could be a tad better.

Tough, but worth the drive

Challenging course, and very tough to play the first time as many of the holes have unexpected features and hazards, but very well maintained, great layout, good variety. Normal rates are a bit high given all the comparable courses in surrounding areas, most of which are more centrally located, but for $25 through Golfnow it was definitely worth the drive.

Senic, great layout and challenging. not to be missed.

Great layout. Most holes very memorable. Elevation changes,
Carry and undulating greens. One of my favorite courses in south
East Michigan. Senic. Difficult but fare. Greens a little ruff this time.

Challenging course for special occasions

This is a tough course...blind tee shots, rolling hills, fairway bunkers, water on the approach, greenside bunkers, sloping greens...you name it, they've got it. But the course is beautiful. Nicely designed so that you normally won't run into other golfers. Beware of #10 green...it seems to be a common landing zone for people that fade/push/slice the #18 tee shot. A ball landed within 10 feet of me while I was chipping on to #10 green. In general, the course is maintained but the greens could use some more TLC and the fairway bunkers were rock hard. It took me nearly an hour to get to this course so I wouldn't go there on a regular basis, even at the Golfnow hot deal price of $35. Note: while the clubhouse has a nice bar and friendly staff, they don't staff a cook so the only available food is hotdogs and sandwiches.

Wouldn't have played here if not for golf now. But the course was in good condition except for a few greens.

This course has a great layout....both in beauty and in substance

This is probably the best layout in lower/mid Michigan. Every hole is different and presents its unique challenge. It's not "tricked up" but you must think your way around. The "carry" required over hazards is fair and at the same time thrilling. My ONLY criticism, if you want one, is that I wish the greens were mowed better. The grass on them seems too long resulting in a stimp reading of less than 10 (would be my guess) It is a must play.

Fair but challenging course

Had a lot of fun playing this course. Huge, well groomed greens with lots of play. Challenging approach shots, which hardly ever are from a flat lie. Pace of play was terribly slow, but all in all a very fun course to play.

A destination course, including the people u play behind.

Coyote preserve has some great views and is a fair course. Good golfers can challenge themselves based on tees, but newbies can not be too overwhelmed. Arnold palmer design has some cool shots that can really fool the eye. Some of the bunkers are rough, i tjink they're working on them, but the rest of course is what u would expect from top level course. Worth a drive.

The course was in GREAT shape!

We played on a Sunday morning and NEVER saw the group in front or in back of us!! pace was fantastic, staff was friendly and accommodating and the course was in excellent shape. My group plays 30-40 rounds a summer in the northwest Detroit area and The Coyote Preserve ranks up at the top of our list.

Great value for a challenging course

This course was absolutely beautiful. It was quite challenging. It played 6600 from the blues and you earned every yard. A lot of trouble if you don't hit it in the fairway's but they are wide and fair. We payed $25 through GolfNow and we all commented that we would have paid the full $55. Worth every penny.

This course has beautiful views.

An up North feeling just outside of Ann Arbor. A nice piece of property that only needs a few improvements to be an excellent course. The greens get faster as you move through the course; so beware.

Great Layout

The wife and I played this on a weekday in the early afternoon and had no other golfers directly in front of or behind us, which let to a fast but comfortable pace of play that was very relaxing on a beautiful sunny day. The layout is great, with lots of up- and down-hill fairway elevation changes and choices to make regarding risk/reward.

There are not many houses along the course, which was one of my concerns, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. There's drinking water on the course, and a cart girl started doing rounds at 3pm the day we played.

The hazards are numerous and are placed perfectly if you play the appropriate tee boxes, those being five sets from which to choose.

The more up-to-date reviews that golfnow accrues, the more accurate they have become in my opinion. I would give this a 4.4 if allowed. We will definitely return for more.

Fun course in great shape

Some challenging holes. Many of them uphill, especially the par 3's. Pace was great until we reached #16 and there were multiple twosomes, foursomes, waiting on those ahead. Skipped the last couple of holes.

Challenging course.

Had not played it before... was trying to decide which tees to play. I didn't play the back tees and so glad I didn't. It was a super hot day and I had all the challenge I needed where I hit from. Some blind shots makes the first round there a little extra challenging I think.
Course was nicely maintained. Greens could have used a little bit extra work if I wanted to be picky. Got a great price on Golf Now and have no complaints whatsoever with the value we received because of the deal.
Course has a neat promo on - your first small beer costs what you shoot... so shoot 85 and pay 85 cents... staff were super friendly. I will go back when in the area. In fact, liked it so much may take a golfing vacation out michigan way and play a few courses out there.
