Coyote Preserve Golf Club

About
Coyote Preserve Golf Club in Fenton is one of the only courses in the area designed by Arnold Palmer. The course has a hilly terrain that provides plenty of elevation changes a well as stunning views. Tumbling across deep ravines and native wetlands, the layout requires many carries over dramatic depressions and water hazards but many are seemingly intimidating but actually quite reasonable. Massive, finely sculpted bunkers strategically frame the greensides of many holes. While some of them are manageable, others are deep and sod-faced. The tricky hazards in conjunction with the dramatic elevations demand both accuracy and creative shot-making. The golf course has a memorable finish with a par-5, risk-reward hole. There is ample room off the tee on this downhill, dogleg left hole and it presents a few different options for the second shot. With some thought, scoring par is definitely a possibility.

Course in good condition
For the beginning of golf season, the course is in decent condition. The driving range is closed until this week. The tee boxes, fairway and rough are in good condition. The greens are slower than normal since they have not been rolled yet. They do run true. There are no rakes out yet, so the bunkers are littered with foot prints. There is green damage on the 18th hole due to a broken sprinkler head. For the GolfNow Hot Deal price, we thought the value was good. Looking forward to the course getting back to it's usual excellent condition.
Just a fantastic course.
Immaculate greens and fairways less holes #10 & 11. Beautiful scenery, great staff in the clubhouse, great carts.
This course has some very challenging holes, that are buffered by some easier holes to maintain confidence. It is truly the best value for the quality of course in this area, and I think they may charge too little for how great this course is.
If I lived closer, I would make this my regular course.
Worth a shot
Place is a bit more expensive Vs other places around but it has unique holes that make it memorable. Because the course is tricky with blind shots and dog legs I’d recommend getting an early tee time because I can see how easily the pace of play can be destroyed by someone inexperienced playing before you.
Not worth the money
Course not in the great shape that I remember a decade ago when I played with my dad. Difficult course that requires knowing where to aim on fairway due to slopes and hills, a lot of blind shots so even great shots can end in rough easily unless you know the course and slopes of fairways. Very difficult for an average bogey golfer, my buddy shot 111 and I shot a 91 due to putting and turning birds into bogies. Green speeds varied greatly from hole to hole some greens like glass then others much slower. A lot of ground under repair, sloped lies above / below feet and uphill /downhill lies. Got a hot deal for $65 and still not worth the money, would not pay full price unless the course gets back to conditions it once was.
Brutally slow this time
Needed the course Marshall to get things moving. Front 9 was just over 3 hours. The slow group left after 9 and things sped up a bit. Course was super wet the day we played but had bad storms the night before so won't hold that against the course.
Fix the cart paths Abdul its a 5!!
I always enjoy playing this Arnold Palmer gem, however those cart paths are getting worse due to large tree roots.
Not worth the price
Too many staff members doing nothing. Cart paths are destroyed and will cause back injury if you stay on them. Lots of repairs poorly marked yardage. I will not come back to this course.
Fun, challenging, slow
Coyote Preserve is a very pretty course with elevation changes, sand, water, generally generous fairways, lots of challenges and decisions to be made. Course management is a must. Only negative was slow pace of play. Clubhouse warned us at check in that the course was full and might be slow. 5+ hour round and even that with 2 groups in front of us calling it quits at hole 16. It was a Sunday so I expected a slower round, but seemed a little beyond expectations even for a weekend. Still would recommend and definitely will play again.
Great comeback
The course is really coming back to the Timber Trace I once loved to play.
There are a few holes that have bunkers still under repair, but the grounds crew has done a great job over the last couple of years. The course has a Northern Michigan feel. It's challenging and has a great layout. The greens are in good shape from the hail damage experienced earlier in the season. The staff is friendly and very helpful. The pace of play was great for a Sunday afternoon. We finished 18 holes in 4.5 hours. I would recommend.
Can’t wait to go back
First time playing this course, went early and had barely anyone out there in the morning so I had a good pace. Great course layout with amazing views the whole time as well as challenging greens that are well maintained. Such a fun course.
