Stonegate Golf Club
About
Situated just a few minutes from Muskegon, Stonegate Golf Club in Stone Lake sprawls across gently rolling hills that are surrounded by the beauty of the Manistee National Forest. The undulating terrain provides dramatic elevation changes that can give you a different round every time you play. Although there are residences bordering the golf course, it still feels completely secluded thanks to the sheltering trees and pristine natural setting that is accented with marshes and ponds. The golf course has a variety of greens, most are slightly raised and some are open in front while others have slopes and bunkers protecting them. The putting surfaces roll true with only a few mild undulations. Stonegate's fairways can be tricky since they’re lined with mature pines and hardwoods and more often than not you’ll find one or more bunkers guarding the most opportune landing areas.

Great challenging features for golfers at all levels.
The fairways are plush and the rough was about what one would expect. Greens were fast compared to other courses.
highly recomended.
I love playing this course. It is beautifully laid out. Bring your short game and putting skills though the greens are challenging.
Best course in the area.
Stonegate Golf Course is the best course in the greater Muskegon area. They offer some fantastic holes with quick firm greens. It is just a very clean cut course. The only negative is the bugs, which going to find almost everywhere this year. Stonegate is a must play.
Greens were not in the best of condition
The course was in decent condition, the only issued I had was that the grass had just been cut and there was an excessive amount of grass clippings in the fairways. The greens were not in great condition, but were okay.
One of the best around
This is a very nice course for the Muskegon/Twin Lake area. Each hole has its own feel to it. The course is not overly challenging but is not a breeze either. The greens could use some repair but are otherwise in great shape. Some great options for different shots on this course and highly recommend for anyone looking to play in the Muskegon or surrounding areas.
Course was great-bring bug spray!
The course is very nice and was in excellent condition. We had a great time. The mosquitos were very bad though, so bring bug spray!
Great Course
Excellent condition. I have played here several times in the past so I could not pass up the deal through GolfNow!! $20
Fun to play.
The fairway landing areas are pretty wide. Some of the par 4s offer a challenge to get there in 2. Lots of variety. Nice greens.
If this course were in Northern Michigan it would be an $75 deal.
Amazing course in a beautiful setting
This is a beautiful course in a great setting. Mature tree lined fairways make you feel isolated. There is a good variety of holes on both nines with short par 4's and longer par 4's and interesting par 3's. The back nine is more memorable but the front was still enjoyable. The greens are the fastest I have ever played by far. They are in great shape but in certain spots depending on pin location are unfair. The 10th hole had a pin location the day we went that was very unfair. I made a putt that went past the hole and came back into the hole. This was of course after the first putt ran past the hole ten feet when it was dying near the hole
and should have gone 6-12 inches past
great course and in great condition its a championship course
great course and in great condition. Very challanging and green were challenging as well.staff were very respectful and clubhouse offered varaities of food for all ages.
Challenging course but.....
The golf course is really nice but the greens could use some work, maybe because of the hot summer the grass is a little thin.
Favorite course in the Muskegon, MI area
Stonegate is a MUST PLAY course. Excellent club house, excellent golf course. Course is usually in immaculate shape, and the surrounding landscape is worth just driving a cart around for 4 hours.
Have played this course for several years and always tell myself, just get through 1 and 2, and it gets easier. #1 is really not all that difficult, but if you think you can carry the valley of death 230 yards out, you may find yourself with one less ball in your bag. Not a long hole..... 200 yard tee shot will be within 150 yards of the green and take the waste area out of play. Always happy with par on this hole. I've hit 3 wood from the back tees and put it in the waste area...... not smart play.
#2 is a par 3. 150+ yards. Leave it below the pin or just walk away and take bogey. You cannot stop a putt from rolling off that green if you land it above the pin. Been there, done that, bought the t-shirt. Leave it short and you could be in the junk like #1. Target golf the first 2 holes......but fun.
After 1 and 2...... let the fun begin. Not a long course, but opens up a bit. I totally enjoy 3-18..... there are challenges, but it is not punishing. You can be less than straight off most tees and still recover.
If you can shape shots, you will love this course. A number of par 4's require fades or draws off the tee for the next shot into the green.
There are a fair amount of hazards..... bunkers and water. It's friendly, but you do need to think about what shot you are going to play. If you play it for the first time you will want to do it again, because it really is immaculate and beautiful, and you will want to play it again because you learn the nuances of it and where to place the ball.
I gave it 4 stars only because they rarely offer deals, and there are nicer courses in the area for 1/2 the money. Stonegate pushing 60 bucks on the weekends, or Thoroughbred or Grand Haven for $25 on GolfNow? Makes for an easy decision.
Still, Stonegate is an amazing place to play golf.
