Stonegate Golf Club
About
Situated just a few minutes from Muskegon, Stonegate Golf Club in Stone Lake sprawls across gently rolling hills that are surrounded by the beauty of the Manistee National Forest. The undulating terrain provides dramatic elevation changes that can give you a different round every time you play. Although there are residences bordering the golf course, it still feels completely secluded thanks to the sheltering trees and pristine natural setting that is accented with marshes and ponds. The golf course has a variety of greens, most are slightly raised and some are open in front while others have slopes and bunkers protecting them. The putting surfaces roll true with only a few mild undulations. Stonegate's fairways can be tricky since they’re lined with mature pines and hardwoods and more often than not you’ll find one or more bunkers guarding the most opportune landing areas.

great course and in great condition its a championship course
great course and in great condition. Very challanging and green were challenging as well.staff were very respectful and clubhouse offered varaities of food for all ages.
Challenging course but.....
The golf course is really nice but the greens could use some work, maybe because of the hot summer the grass is a little thin.
Favorite course in the Muskegon, MI area
Stonegate is a MUST PLAY course. Excellent club house, excellent golf course. Course is usually in immaculate shape, and the surrounding landscape is worth just driving a cart around for 4 hours.
Have played this course for several years and always tell myself, just get through 1 and 2, and it gets easier. #1 is really not all that difficult, but if you think you can carry the valley of death 230 yards out, you may find yourself with one less ball in your bag. Not a long hole..... 200 yard tee shot will be within 150 yards of the green and take the waste area out of play. Always happy with par on this hole. I've hit 3 wood from the back tees and put it in the waste area...... not smart play.
#2 is a par 3. 150+ yards. Leave it below the pin or just walk away and take bogey. You cannot stop a putt from rolling off that green if you land it above the pin. Been there, done that, bought the t-shirt. Leave it short and you could be in the junk like #1. Target golf the first 2 holes......but fun.
After 1 and 2...... let the fun begin. Not a long course, but opens up a bit. I totally enjoy 3-18..... there are challenges, but it is not punishing. You can be less than straight off most tees and still recover.
If you can shape shots, you will love this course. A number of par 4's require fades or draws off the tee for the next shot into the green.
There are a fair amount of hazards..... bunkers and water. It's friendly, but you do need to think about what shot you are going to play. If you play it for the first time you will want to do it again, because it really is immaculate and beautiful, and you will want to play it again because you learn the nuances of it and where to place the ball.
I gave it 4 stars only because they rarely offer deals, and there are nicer courses in the area for 1/2 the money. Stonegate pushing 60 bucks on the weekends, or Thoroughbred or Grand Haven for $25 on GolfNow? Makes for an easy decision.
Still, Stonegate is an amazing place to play golf.
