Cypress Course at Stonegate Golf Club

About
The Cypress Course is one of two 18-hole, championship courses at Stonegate Golf Club at Solovita. The course has a player-friendly layout with ample fairways and bunkers that are large but generally low lipped. There are some challenges that should not be taken too casually though, including sloped, elevated greens that are heavily guarded and water hazards on fourteen holes. The golf course is known for having scenic par-3 holes that are particularly difficult from the back tees. In addition to the two golf courses, Stonegate Golf Club at Solovita offers practice facilities that include a targeted grass driving range, putting green, and practice bunkers.

Great value
Course is in very good condition & well worth the $40 green fee for 2:04 tee time. We were able to finish.....only problem was hitting into the direct sunlight on hole 18. Otherwise it was a great day.
Two Rounds at Stonegate, Two Very Different Experiences
Played the Oaks course last week, had a great time, staff pleasant, course in great condition. Played Cyprus today and everything from the staff interaction, to the course was almost 180° different. Right from the interaction at the cart shack, to the condition of the course, definitely not of the highest quality. A good number of the fairways had a considerable amount of bare spots, and a number of the greens had large sandy patches. May consider playing the Oaks again, but will leave the Cyprus off my playlist. Overall, 2.5 out of 5.
Wet and slightly wild
Played this course about six times last winter, first time this season. Doesn’t drain well. Plenty of chewed up fairways from carts. Very little grass on fairways. Greens were nice with the usual Florida sand spots. This course was in much better shape last year. Hope the Oaks course is in better condition. Would easily rate this 4 stars but fairways are pretty sparse!
Great course
It was a little soaked from the rain but fairways were good. Tee boxes were in good shape also.
Cool golf in Florida
Very nice greens and challenging tee shots. The fairways were fairly soft after the rains and had quite a few worm casts but the course was in good condition. Great pace of play due to lack of golfers braving the cold temperature.
Slowest greens we've played all year
Girl that checked us in was friendly, the starter not so much. Overall the course was in pretty good shape. Greens were fluffy and extremely slow. The course is very spread out, some long cart rides from some greens to tees. Wide fairways for the most part. Control your shots & you stay clear of water. Good bunkering in front of greens.
Empty promises
I live in the development, so I had high hopes that changing the head greenskeeper would help. It has not. The greens are mostly awful, some have huge sand pits in them that you might have to putt out of or through !!! Inexcusable. Sand traps are washed out, poorly contoured, with no defined boundaries and sometimes huge pits. Terrible and easily fixable !!! Bare patches in the fairways, unrepaired divots, no defined cut between the fairway and the rough, and weeds growing on many greens are just disgraceful. I’ve seen better course conditions at a $15 walking muni The hundred dead fish floating on the pond on 8 and the dozens of vultures feasting on them was only surpassed by the horrendous dead fish smell.
Empty Promises
I live in the development, and I’ve played this course dozens of times over the years. They changed head greenskeeper (brought in someone from Disney) last year and said conditions would improve. It hasn’t happened. Almost every bunker is in terrible shape…. no defined boundaries, sand washed down to the bottom, major washouts near the rim of almost every one, etc. One of my tee shots (on 16) ended up in a washout hole almost a foot below the top edge of the bunker…. if the bunker was contoured properly it would have either ran through the bunker and ended up outside it or rolled down to the bottom. Instead I was left with an unfair and impossible lie. Some greens had huge sand pits right in the middle of them !!!! Photo attached. Inexcusable. One should NEVER have to putt through sand patches. EVER. This is a LONG TERM problem, not related to weather, disease, sudden storms or anything else. Either they don’t have the personnel, or the money, or they don’t care, but regardless of the reason this is terrible. I’ve seen better at $15 a round walking muni courses. The grass is cut so short on the fairways it’s almost dirt, and in some places the grass has washed away as a result leaving dirt. There’s little definition between the fairways and the rough. This is such a wonderful layout and it’s a shame what they’ve let it degrade into. The worst was hole 8. Something happened in the pond and there’s a hundred or more dead fish floating on top and dozens of vultures feasting on the shore. The smell is terrible. YUCK
Wonderful
The young lady who checked us in was delightful. She said she was from Porta Rico and she made us laugh. Give her a raise.
What a wonderful day except for:
85% of the homes and the complex itself have swimming pools but, did we see any bikini clad young ladies? No! I think you should do something about that. As old men we don't have that many rounds left in us and off-course amenities are important. Thank you. Keep up the good work.
Definitely recommend
Superb course and facilities, from the minute we dropped bags off to completing a lovely meal in their clubhouse. Course was in superb condition, great value for money. Great layout with lovely doglegs and lakes always in play. Will definitely play again on our next visit.
