Golfer Reviews
Losing hope.
Friendly people, great track , 4 cars in the lot?? This place spent a bunch of money 12-18 months ago and it was in as good of condition as it had been in 20 plus years. Brand new greens were a huge improvement . Now, 40% of the fairways and 35-40% of the greens are just gone even though we have had a ton of rain. Weeds are out of control. Lake edges and off fairway areas being neglected. It just doesn’t look like it can last much longer in this condition. I hope they figure it out soon because South Orlando/ Kissimmee can’t keep losing golf courses.
Pleasant Play
I have read the reviews where people moan and complain about the greens and such. Oaks National has improved and continues to work the problems, but what I love about the course is its layout and it’s so pleasant to play. No waiting, no one pushing you to finish your hole because pcpurse play is so slow and in the heat it’s miserable. Oaks moved along even when it gets a little crowded. So if you want to play a US Open kept course and pay out the nose to play with people who think they are US Open caliber players, then go waste your money. I’ll take Pals National any day of the week.
CLOSE THIS COURSE!!
This is the worst course condition I’ve ever played. The maintenance of the course is poorly kept up. The greens are small and mostly muddy. Take this course off of GN, remodel it,and if not, close it permanently.
Do not play
Oh where to begin, I have played golf all over the world including 3rd world countries. This has to be the worse course I have ever EVER played. The front 9 was okay but the back 9 was unplayable. Greens had no flags or were punched and not cleaned. Just close the back for maintenance. Back 9 fairways were not cut and in areas longer then the Scotland Fescue. Don't get me started on the cart paths, the carts should be 4x4 offload carts. Spend an extra 10 bucks to litterly play anywhere else.
Course review
Management working to maintain course, but need a lot of work like any other course in Florida. The rainy weather in summer is challenging. Had to stop playing after 14 th. Hole due to heavy down pours.kissimmee
Horrible conditions
I've played here various times and this would be my last. First, the greens are in bad shape. Second, the grass by the fairways if you can call it that, are too high. I lost balls I saw going just of the fairways and couldn't find the ball because of how high the grass was. Third, the white tee box markers were missing on most holes. I had to depend on my watch GPS. I played before and it was a little better but, not that much different so wanted to give it another try to see if there were improvements. I was wrong. This place should charge $10 for green fees. Last time playing here.
Terrible
Terrible. No other words to describe it. Greens were muddy and bare spots everywhere. If you hit a drive and it landed in the fairway and you could find it, it would be plugged due to how wet it was. Rough was like bethpage black, 2 inches off the fairway and your ball was lost due to grass being a foot tall. On short dog legs where you can carry the bend you weren’t able to cause once you got around you wouldn’t be able to find your ball. Unless you followed it to the ground on every shot you would lose your ball whether in fairway or not. Just a bad, non maintained course. I’ve played other courses this week that were wet and still playable. This actually may have been the driest course I’ve played recently but it was in the worst shape. Never play here again, sorry.
Just don’t play here.
Not recommended. You literally can’t tell the fairways apart from the rough. It was even difficult finding balls that landed in the middle of the fairways. Greens were in bad shape. Clubhouse staff was nice but that was the best part of this course.
The app not saving my ratings so I’ll just say 1.5 stars.
It always seems to be the same conditions
I admit that I play here more than most places because of the price on GolfNow and being able to get very early teetimes. In most cases, there isn't anyone else out there so I can treat it like a real practice session and hit 2-3 balls per hole. I went out at 7am and a guy caught up to me at #9, I let him go and I didn't see anyone else. The course itself was cut really low, which I'm fine with, but it looked like they don't water it very often because it makes the brown show more. No complaints about the tee boxes, they were cut and soft so I was happy about that. The greens weren't cut very low and I understand that with the heat, they could dry out if they're not watered. The greens did roll pretty well, at least on the grass parts as most greens had some really bad spots.
I get it that it takes A LOT of money to keep a golf course it great shape and for under $30, if I can get through the course in around 3 hours, it's worth it for me.
The course is barely playable
The staff has lost the course again. Drives hit in the fairway are not playable, if you can even find them. Unfortunately, the owners cannot maintain this well-designed property at a playable level year-round.
The maintenance staff is discourteous to golfers. There is no ranger. I encounter residents who walk on the course with no regard for golfers.
What a shame. This is a great layout, yet again poorly managed.
Bright spot, front desk staff does a great job checking golfers in and getting us out, only to experience substandard playing conditions. Nevertheless, I remain hopeful. This course has a ton of potential. Please fix it.
Best Value for $, Cool Layout , Great Staff
Always enjoy this course, the staff are super, course interesting - nice mix of straight/dogleg/water holes - certainly the best value out there.
The Oaks National
The Oaks is not an easy course. Lots of hazards and trees…….the price is right but the conditions were not the best. All the fairways were browning and had lots of weeds popping up on the fairways. Not sure what’s up with that. They were working on some of the greens. There were bad areas on the greens but generally the greens were in decent shape.
Best Value for $ Great Staff Highly Recommend
Truly enjoy the rather challenging layout. Greens are rolling true - obvious the superintendent is working to improve the fairways. The course is in pretty good shape especially considering the temp pushing 100 and the daily monsoons. Without a doubt the best value out there and the staff are nicest anywhere. Highly Recommend
I wish it weren’t so
I have played this course a few dozen times. I choose the oaks because of its pace of play. Quite frankly, they’re just aren’t that many people that play it.
This said, the layout is phenomenal! Unfortunately conditions are equally bad. I literally lost a ball in the fairway on whole number 17 because I couldn’t determine which patch of weeds it landed in. That is a repeating pattern across many holes on the course.
It’s impossible to discern if there is any sand left in the bunkers or if the sand has been completely replaced with dirt.
The most notable effort for the course to me appears to be work with their greens. I’m not suggesting they’re good by any means. I just reflecting that they’re better than the tea boxes and Fairways.
This said, today is hot deal of 15 bucks warrants playing it versus hitting the range for a similar price point.
This is a great course to bring new players to the game, not for the exposure but for the practice.
Worse course that I have played out of state
The fairways were terrible, grass was not cut, several tee boxes were not marked. This course was a lot worse than back home worse courses.
Actually, Pretty Good... Until...
So I played Oaks National twice this week. During my first round I only got to play the front nine before weather intervened. Having only played the front nine I thought that the negative reviewers were either crazy, or snobs. Sure, the cart path had cracks, some of the greens had sand and a bald spot or two - but this is a solid, fun track at a crazy rate. I didn't get why the course was getting slammed.
Then, two days later, I played the back nine. This is a TRUE neighborhood nine. Nestled and integrated into sets of houses - these holes and these homes occupy the same grass - still cool, though - I can see why golfers would be frustrated back there, but it's just tough golf
However... The back is also noticeable (how do I say this kindly) less manicured. It's rough. There isn't great distinction between grasses, from fairway to deep rough. They seem to be chipping away at it and I'm going to be honest with you - if this course improves to conditions (especially in the back) this is going to be a terrific, fun, challenging course. I think 85% of the negative reviews are probably bitter golfers who couldn't place the ball once the course becomes demanding about placement. It's just easier to blame the course.
At a decent rate, this is a killer value even with the so so conditions. Lower your expectations, enjoy the challenge, and you'll be fine.
