About
The South Course at BlackHorse is known for the sand quarry that was ingeniously worked into the layout by the design team. Particularly on the back side, the wetlands and sand features come into play prominently and create a totally unique setting for golf.
Getting there : Take Hwy. 290 west to the Spring Cypress exit. Go south (left) under Hwy. 290 to Old Hempstead Hwy. Turn right and drive .5 mile. Turn left on House & Hahl Rd. Then left on Mound Rd. and right on Fry Rd. The entrance is on the right.

Busy and not up to par
Like these courses but South was not in as good shape as it usually is.....fairways were haggard, though greens were good. On-course services were sparse.....cart-girl not around much....
Challenging course. Had a great day!
Course is in great shape and the weather was perfect.
Lots of sand traps! Back nine is tough.

If you are in North Houston make a point to play this one. Nice course and fun.
Course in Great Shape
The course was in great shape, highly recommend playing especially if you can get a deal.
Thick Rough
Great layout and well maintained. You must hit the fairways...the rough is very penalizing. It is thick and the morning due make its even tougher. Look for to playing again!!
Blackhorse South Course
The fairways, bunkers and greens are in great condition. The fairways and greens are hard and fast. The ball sits down in the first cut and shotmaking from the first cut is difficult. Being on the fairway is a huge bonus.
It was nearly 100 F today, my only two complaints are there are not enough ice water stations on the course and the Refreshment cart was seen on the second fairway and never again.
The course is worth playing.
Great course even though
Course is still a great layout, greens are very good but the rough is cut way too high. Ball leaves fairway even a few feet, it can be very hard to find.
It’s still a great public course but the rough needs a little attention.
Aerated Greens
Great course, great layout BUT it would’ve been nice to be notified that the greens had been aerated recently.
Nice Course
Arguably nicer than other courses in the area. Par 4's are long and Par 5's are short. Greens are nice so long putts are doable. There are a lot of company outings and tournaments here, but they have let me switch between courses when this happens to have a quicker round.

Never miss playing here when in Houston. Definitely a great public golf course with a private feel.
Excellent condition
This corse was in great shape. Played well and challenging but enjoyable. Pro staff and clubhouse went above and beyond.
Great Course
BlackHorse South is a challenging layout. It's a true golf course that requires shot placement, and not just distance. Greens are challenging and the bunkers are in good condition.
Very good course with a challenge
My second time to play the south course. I like it more the second time played, good condition and greens pretty nice and fast. Pace of play was good. I recommend it.
