BlackHorse Golf Club - South Course
About
The South Course at BlackHorse is known for the sand quarry that was ingeniously worked into the layout by the design team. Particularly on the back side, the wetlands and sand features come into play prominently and create a totally unique setting for golf.
Getting there : Take Hwy. 290 west to the Spring Cypress exit. Go south (left) under Hwy. 290 to Old Hempstead Hwy. Turn right and drive .5 mile. Turn left on House & Hahl Rd. Then left on Mound Rd. and right on Fry Rd. The entrance is on the right.

Great course challenging I would recommend it to any advanced golfer
South course
A tad bit dry but a wonderful layout
Great finishing holes through the quarry
I used to play Blackhorse fairly often when I lived in the area but as I moved a couple years ago this was the first time in over a year. The staff was great, friendly and helpful. Unfortunately the course, I played the south, has deteriorated in condition from my last visit. The first tee and many other tee boxes were in terrible shape, uneven with little grass. I played from the blue tees. Some of the fairways had patches of dirt or browned out areas. Most were Ok however. The bunkers at Blackhorse used to be excellent now many were pretty rough. They hadn’t seemed to be raked in awhile, with very inconsistent depth of sand. Perhaps this is a result of Harvey. Crews were working in the bunkers on hole #3 so maybe they are redoing all of them? Greens were ok. Again, they used to be much better, condition wise.
Overall, the round was disappointing as it used to be one of the best courses in greater Houston.
BlackHorse south
Nice front nine, nothing exciting. 13-18 are awesome!
Loved IT!!!!
Beautiful golf course!!! Played the south course which was a great challenge. Can’t wait to go back!!!
Needs some watering
This course is challenging, especially off the tee with narrow, tree lined fairways. We enjoyed our round as the place of play was good even though it was quite busy. Only complaint was the condition of the fairways and the tee boxes. Both are in bad need of watering. Lots of brown areas in the fairways, and you can hardly put your tee into the ground on the tee boxes cause it's so hard and barren. For this price, I would expect better conditions.
Rough conditions
Fairways are hard and washed out, no grass. Tough to hit iron shots with no grass on fairways. Greens in fair condition.
Good Course for Good Players
This is a good course for good players to test their game. The average player will have to work to get a decent score. The hackers should not play unless they like to cuss and play out of trees and sand and look for their balls in the water.
Blackhorse South is very challenging
Long and tight on most holes, greens were in excellent shape. Had a great time, course was a bit crowded due to Spring Break and great weather but not too bad.
Watch out Greens ate slow
A co-worker and I decided to give this side a try after playing the north side a couple of times. Love the layout of the course but right now the greens are slower than the north. Probably a 9.0 on the stimp. Other than that it was an enjoyable round for my friend and I.
This course will test your skills
Playing the course in very windy condition made it really challenging specially hole#13,16 &17
South Course Review
I played the south course this past weekend for the very first time. The course was in great shape and very challenging on a few holes. The price was a little high. But I highly recommend it. Scored 90
Nice course
Found the course to be in good condition despite the harsh weather conditions we have been facing lately. It has always been a favorite course of mine. Great setup and fun to play.
Fun
Tough in the wind. Course is in good shape considering it is winter. The sand is being renovated so they are unplayable for the most part. There was only one or two rakes on the course.
