BlackHorse Golf Club - South Course

Went the enature round with no delays. Greens are in very good shape and overall course was great as well. Very enjoyable round!

Managed to secure a Hot Deal for the South Course at Blackhorse for $30, and decided to give it a try. I was not disappointed. Arrived later than planned so couldn't use the facilities before teeing off, but the driving range and short game area looked modern and comprehensive. As I was a single player, I was paired with two other gentlemen. The pace of play was average, with one member of our group playing very slowly, and the fourball in front taking their time too (N.B. I am a very quick player and like to complete rounds in around or under 3 hours when possible). The greens were in very good condition; quick with consistent roll, but still soft and responsive to approach shots. The only part of the course that was disappointing was the standard of the tees, with lots of moss making it difficult at times to find a clear spot to tee up. All in all a good experience on a reasonably challenging course, and one I would definitely play again.

We have played the course on several occasions while in Houston, TX visiting our family. It is a beautiful course and is well manicured. The Staff is great.

Tuff but fair layout...lots of trees .... Plenty of water and sand in all the places you tend to hit your shots

Nice course, there had been a bunch of rain recently so some places were pretty saturated with water, a few holes were cart path only. Also, this was in the beginning of Jan so it was a bit chilly. None of these could be controlled by the staff. I'm looking forward to playing it during the warmer months to compare. The back 9 on the South course has some very nice holes as it was once a quarry.

I played at Blackhorse South on 1/4, hole 16 has a fantastic view but the rest are average, fee was pricey considering course condition and view. Staff at the pro shop could have been more polite and helpful.

I would actually give this course a 4.5 star rating.
The greens are in great shape, not too fast.
Keep yiur your drives in the fairway and you should have some good approach shots as the fairways are also in good condition.
The bridge at 17th hole is currently under water, but not biggie, just go around.
Overall, a good experience and i do recommend this course to others.

I had been looking forward to playing Blackhorse for some time and it exceeded my expectations and more!! WOW!! What a fantastic course, facilities and staff. I played the south side on a wonderful weather day . I was greeted by friendly staff in pro shop. I was early so I had a yummy breakfast sandwich and headed to range. Big nice range with a putting green, practice bunker and chipping green. As I was getting ready to play I was met by Pete the starter who tipped me to club up into greens as they are set up from fairways. I drove over the bridge and was blown away with the course. Not a typical Texas course with tree lined fairways and beautiful sight lines The course really got started with #5 a long par five slight dogleg right around the lake. Back nine ranks up with any I ever played !! # 13 starts a stretch of holes that very memorable . This course has everything I look for in a great course and more. Play Blackhorse!! I got a cheaper deal on GN but would play here again at full price. Don't miss this Texas gem!!

The south course is more difficult than the north but it was very well maintained, beautiful and worth every lost ball!

Played the South. Facilities have a definite private club feel - lot's of members it appears.

Finishing holes around the quarry on the back nine are really beautiful and fun.

Would definitely play there again.

From what I understand, the front 9 on the North, plus the back 9 on the South are the ultimate round there.

First off, I give 5 stars for Value For The Money because I got a deal on GolfNow and then had a promo code on top of that.

The course was in good condition and was pretty challenging. Most of the challenge came from narrow fairways, but well placed bunkers had me using my sand wedge more often than I would want.

I gave Pace of Play a poor score because the foursome in front of me were all pretty bad golfers. Someone was entertaining clients - the marshall tried asking if we could play through but the group was unwilling to do so.

My friend and I are your average golfer 9- 10 handicap.

We were just a twosome hitting from the blues and another twosome behind us hitting from the senior tees.

When we started we had nobody behind us at 08:20 tee time. But as the second hole came up we had caught up to a foursome. we played at our pace and caught up on the fourth hole. But on the 3rd hole while waiting, the seniors caught up to us while we were waiting for the foursome on the green to putt out so we could hit to the green. The twosome hitting from the senior tees, they tee off and their ball pass our cart we are sitting in we are like WTF??? I am pretty sure they are regulars there at Black Horse. But NO SORRY or anything when we passed or they were close. Etiquette is a very big part of golf. As we finished the 3rd hole the foursome tee off and said we could teeoff and move along. That was great to get away from the twosome behind us with no etiquette.

The members there at that club need to learn etiquette and to honor it. If your retired and playing then what is the rush???

But over all beside this disappointment, I would recommend this course. SOUTH.

Course was in good all around shape.Only complaint was that by midway through the front nine, we ran into a group of 2-3 foursomes that were part of a wedding party and they were clogging the course and not being marshalled. There was a 2-3 hole gap in front of them.
When we got to 13, we were the third group waiting on the tee, so we skipped over to 17 and 18, right ahead of the lead group of the party, played those two and then came back and finished 13-16 with no waiting. Ended up finishing in 3:45 as a twosome.

Overall nice course. Holes have character and challenges on most every shot. Big complaint is lack of yardage markings. Very few sprinkler heads have yardages and they are few and far between, no yardage sticks along fairway, only plaques at 100, 150, and 200 out in fairway. If you hit every shot down the fair way it wouldn't be so bad but most of us don't play at that level. Worth playing for $25 don't know that I'd pay much more to play Blackhorse South.

First time on this course and it was very fun. Great condition and not too difficult. Paired up with 3 other players that made it fun and the weather was excellent.

Great rate because the greens were punched. It appeared most of the course other than fairways had been mowed. Ragged tee boxes. Rough needs to be trimmed so that players can find there ball.
