BlackHorse Golf Club - South Course
About
The South Course at BlackHorse is known for the sand quarry that was ingeniously worked into the layout by the design team. Particularly on the back side, the wetlands and sand features come into play prominently and create a totally unique setting for golf.
Getting there : Take Hwy. 290 west to the Spring Cypress exit. Go south (left) under Hwy. 290 to Old Hempstead Hwy. Turn right and drive .5 mile. Turn left on House & Hahl Rd. Then left on Mound Rd. and right on Fry Rd. The entrance is on the right.

Great Layout, Bad Bunkers
The course has a great layout and makes you hit all your clubs. Water comes in to play on the majority of the holes and there are numerous bunkers protecting the greens. My only complaints were that the majority of the bunkers lacked a sufficient amount of sand, particularly on the front nine. Some of them were essentially a very thin layer of sand over clay and were unplayable. It also would have been nice if the staff would have informed me that they had just aerated and sanded the greens before playing. Overall, it is a nice, challenging course. I enjoyed the layout and the course was in good shape. The tee boxes were level and soft and the fairways were in great shape. Hard to comment on the greens given the maintenance that was just performed.
Blackhorse south course
Very nice afternoon on the south course...good condition, pace of play good, all good...will do again soon....
Long and tough for average duffer.
Long par fours make this course very tough. Hard for average golfer. Probably will not go back but would recomend for good golfers. Course in great shape.
Great shape as dry as it is!
Whole course was in great shape, including the greens. We haven't had rain in about six weeks, and things looked great. Greens were rolling great too. It's a must play for the money!
swwet course
Awsome any time you can get out there! !!so go play.

Blackhorse
The staff in the pro shop, the café, the marshals, each and everyone of them are as nice and welcoming as one could ask for. Makes a round in the Texas summer heat pleasant.
Great Track
Great course. Both sides are well maintained and fun to play.
BlkHorse South
Course in fine shape after rain and aeraration. Cart service great!
Great character and challenging nice views!
They must have had a tournament the previous day. Pin placement 2 and they were very challenging tucked in behind traps or close to the edge. Aim middle of green and you will be fine. The view from 17th tee box is real cool. It's an elevated tee box to a more elevated green with water around it giving it an island look. Don't miss the fairways cuz first cut of rough is tough. Ball sits down in it. Only negative was I played at 3 and cups were old, like pin placements had not been changed that morning! Greens rolled well. I'm definitely going back!
Solid layout
Cart path only. 90 degree would have been fine on 14 of 18 holes.
Rough was deep probably due to excessive rain over the past several weeks .
Course is difficult but fair.
Course is in good shape. Still a little damp from all the rain. Overall the course was challenging but was in good condition. Greens were in good condition. Sand traps ( I did find a few), were in great shape and allowed for an honest out.
Course was in OK condition
I probably wouldn't have played this course if it wasn't for Golf Now rates, The daily fee is too high for this course,
Good course
It's been raining a lot lately, so I'm sure that's why the groundskeepers haven't been cutting the rough. Keep an eye on your ball if you hit it in the long grass because you might not be able to locate it.
Wow!
First time playing the south course but absolutely loved it. The par 3 17 and holes 12-18 are especially challenging and unique to anything I've played.
Solid Course
I was very pleased with my recent round at Blackhorse South. Course was in great shape and the greens are some of the best I've played in Houston. It's so much more enjoyable when you get a true roll on the green. The only complaint I could find about the course is I was expecting a bit more complexity with the layout of the holes. More holes seemed to be a straightaway from teebox to green than expected. Overall though, still a fun course to play.

South Course was in great shape! Greens were rolling good! Pace of play was very good!
Greens were in excellent condition
My son and I enjoyed playing the course on a Monday morning. Course was in good condition and especially the greens.
normal saturday golf
I decided to come play here on a whim saturday. the course is awesome as usual, greens are fast so you have to use your imagination alot on the greens. I love coming to play here, because of the people and staff.
Sand traps
The course was great as usual. The only thing that needs attention are the fairway bunkers and some green side bunkers as they have WAY too much sand in them, makes it impossible to hit out of them. I am a 3 handicap who played college and hs golf so i have seen enough fairway bunkers to know that these had too much sand. This was the only thing that I would recommend changing
