This course is nice!
This is my first time in the Dominican Republic so golf was high on my to do list. The courses here are all so expensive so the golf now app came in clutch for this round, got it for 78$! The rub was, mandatory caddie…. Isreal was nice, we were able to talk quite a bit through the round but he consistently doubted my ability, and gave me incorrect yardages… the course was in great shape, the holes by the ocean are amazing! I didn’t care for having a caddie, I asked him what sort of tip would be appropriate ( I expected him to upsell) he said the company he works for doesn’t pay him, he relays solely on tips and a typical tip is 100$ US. When I asked about the 30$ caddy fee his English all of the sudden became very broken. The bathroom we stopped at did have a seat, but it wasn’t attached- luckily I didn’t need it. The rental clubs were high even for a resort 75$ that’s nearly double what I typically pay. The set was a bag of titleist with mixed flexes of stiff and regular throughout. Less than ideal for sure. Overall it was a good time, if I played again I’d bring my own clubs. It was def worth my time but not if I would’ve had to pay full price.
Amazing Value
We played this course TWICE during our visit. It was literally $60 cheaper than The Hard Rock Course and twenty times better!!! The staff is amazing. Our caddie John was outstanding! So much more organized than Hard Rock and better conditions! I will play here every trip we make to Punta Cana. The value for every aspect of the round was incomparable! Greens were about a ten with a really nice layout with multiple holes on the ocean on each of the nine holes we played (27 holes in all).
La Cana golf course
Excellent golf course. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We had a great time.
Generous layout
I was a bit hesitant about the courses based on some of the previous reviews, but to my surprise the course is in great shape. The arrival greetings from the staff was good, pro shop attendant was friendly and got me going in under 10 minutes.
Caddie is required and the fee is $30 plus tip, my caddie was Carlos, the best, super friendly and knowledgeable, be sure to ask for him and you will be lucky to have him.
Quick stop at the range, to hit some balls, the turf is in great shape, a few beaten up balls, but most were good.
Over to the practice greens to roll a few, absolutely perfect, rolling to about a 10.
Out to the course, this course has 27 holes; Hacienda, Arrecife and Tortuga, I played Hacienda to Arrecife fairways are extremely generous and in great shape. The greens were also pure and wasn’t very difficult to get the speed and see the breaks.
Overall I was very pleased with the value, the condition of the course and the caddie.
Just splendid !
Great golf course , not too difficult when not windy.
Large fairways and all the course is in perfect condition.
Gorgeous view
Absolutely, the most beautiful course I have played. Included cart and range balls, as well as a spectacular caddy. Would play every day if I could
First time golfing in Punta Cana
Overall I really enjoyed La Cana G..C. Consisting of three nine holes this 27 holes golfing resort is a solid choice for a fun round of golf. Tortuga and Arrecife and the two most popular nine hole layouts with holes on each nine playing along the beautiful Caribbean Sea. The newer Hacienda has ponds that come into play on some holes but none along the sea shore. Course conditions are overall very good, greens are in great shape although a bit inconsistent in speed from loop to loop. Fairways and tee boxes are good too but the bunkers could be a little nicer. Pace of play was decent but it can get busy before noon when must try to avoid the strong afternoon sun. Caddie’s are mandatory so along with the green fees it can add up quick but the caddies add to the pace of play and help you out a lot with strategy, green reading, cleaning clubs etc. Snacks/food options on course are overpriced and lacking options. Food options/drinks at the clubhouse are very good but pricey and the views from the veranda overlooking the golf course along the sea are beautiful. Overall an enjoyable experience but like most of these beautiful resort golf destinations in Punta Cana they cater mostly to tourists and so you’re going to pay to play!
Quality - Price
Overall this is a beautiful, picturesque ocean course. For Punta Cana, every golf course is overpriced but this one all things considered is the one to play. Not sure why a caddie is needed and having 1 caddie for a foursome was extremely strange. Would play this course again if in the area
Ocean views, nice course
Although the greens were a little slow, the course was very nice to play. Golf in Punta Cana is pricey but this course has some beautiful features to it and overall a gem - price - value compared to others.
Good layout. Slow greens
Good layout with several holes that play on the ocean. Found the greens a little slow and hard to read. Lots of blind approaches. Caddy policy was not well explained and we had one caddy for four golfers. His services were lacking as he was covering four of us and yet we had to pay him $30 each which is fine for a caddy covering two players but it was too much for a guy covering a foursome.
Check your rental clubs & cart , esp. putter before playing!
Great layout. Beautiful views, Greens in good shape. Played Tortuga & Arrecife. Recommended! However, a few surprises (things easily remedied): both of our putter grips were all frayed/disgusting/falling apart - did not discover this until out on course. We had no sand in our cart for divot repair (many unfilled divots on course) & until Caddy took on another 2some for caddying on 4th hole or so, he did not fill divots until we asked. Asked for more sand at the turn but not done. Other two-some were beginners, very nice couple but should have been on their own - very slow -and caddy would not let us move on or get a 2nd caddy. Also slow b/c Caddy was trying to teach the female "golfer" how to swing a club for most of the holes :0(
Tropical Paridise
Booked this course through Golf Now and saved big, online prices are pretty steep. Played the Hacidenda/Arrecife 9 hole layouts. Course was in pretty good shape for all the play it receives. That being said, the pace of play was absolutely abysmal. There were two groups ahead of us on Arrecife with caddies, and you would think they were all playing for the Masters Championship. I played with my wife as a twosome and the course ran out of caddies, so we were alone with having never played the course. The caddies ahead did absolutely nothing to speed up play of their groups, or allow a twosome to play through. The Arrecife 9 is by far the best, with ocean views at 7-9, Play sped up a bit on Hacienda after a few holes as the previous groups moved to the Tortuga 9, but then slowed again after two holes. A poor playing twosome did allow us to play through after a few holes, but we then caught up with another foursome till the end. There are no rangers that I saw and only saw the beverage cart girl twice. Loved the layout as there are more that a view tee shots and approach shots over water, several with green layouts similar to 17 at Sawgrass. I would definitely recommend this course, especially for the bargain price we payed to play.
