El Tigre Club de Golf
About
Located in Nuevo Vallarta, El Tigre Club de Golf enjoys views that stretch to the western Sierra Madre. The design team of Robert Von Hagge, Mike Smelek, and Rick Baril transformed what used to be a flat piece of land into a lush, tropical paradise. Nine water features were added, which come into play on 12 holes, and the terrain was molded and contoured to provide interesting elevation changes. The golf course's proximity to the ocean means that it is also subject to strong prevailing winds, especially in the early evening. The course finishes with two of its most difficult holes. El Tigre Club de Golf's par-3 17th has plenty of sand and water in play to prepare you for the beastly par-5 finishing hole. This 621-yard monster is practically a par 6 with water down the entire left side and a green surrounded by sand.

El Tigre; Where the Sand , Lakes and Tigers meet.
Water and sand come in to play on 14 holes. Some traps are compacted dirt not sand. Fairways are green and soft. Greens were slow and a little burned out. Overall this course is a must play. Par 3, 6th hole is a hole that plays longer than it looks. Add one club to avoid going in the island lakes. Make sure you stop and see the head groundkeeper on 17th tee box area. Talk and take pictures but don't stick any body parts you want to keep inside; He bites. Cab fare from the cruise terminal was $4.00 per person. Don't get ripped off. After your round cabs are parked inside the course parking lot making it no problem to catch a cab.
The tiger
A fantastic course to play ,a really great layout the sand in the bunkers is the only thing on the downside.and their are plenty bunkers ,the clubhouse is top class and so are all the staff .
Too Much Fun!
We had a fabulous day! We never saw anyone else on the course. Lots of water, but very fair course. The greens could be smoother, but hey, this is Mexico and the greens are Bermuda. Will definitely play again!
Good price with golf now
I played this course by myself in about 2 hours during the peak heat of the day. I enjoyed playing it but would never pay full price. Anything over $80 is extremely overpriced unless you are playing an immaculate course.
October course conditions
Played alone at 12:30. Did not see anyone else on the course. I assumed by the name that the designer was Tiger - not. Golf courses in Mexico usually punch and top dress the greens this time of year so greens are not very good, also coming out of the rainy season sometimes have rain damage, not much this course. The one bunker I was in was rock hard. Quite a bit of water but mostly on the side except for one par 3 which is all carry with green fronted by vertical rock face.
I had difficulty finding this course as there are no signs and my GPS didn't have it. Google maps has it. From the main road travelling north from the airport, take the exit to Neuvo Vallarta Riviera Nayarit and look for the large stone security gate off the first traffic circle.
Course conditions
I have played El Tigre for many years, but always in March, when the course is in excellent condition. It is definitely off season now, high heat and higher humidity, and greens and fairways pretty rough. In addition, greens had been plugged and sanded in the last week. Had we paid full fees it would have been a very poor value. Fortunately, we had "Hot Deal" prices!
When in normal conditions, ET is a great track. The course Marshall was a bonus, regularly stopping by with ice water and cold wet towels. The beverage cart lady was very hospitable, and since we were only one of two groups on the course, we saw her frequently. Looking forward to playing again in March.
The course was under mantenance
The course is not playable is under maintenance

Great course
Overall a very nice course... If any greens are not in THE Best shape... But way better than other courses around.
Good value
Played. a 12:30 tee time with a 60% discount on-line. When I first arrived they could not find my tee time. But the staff was friendly and worked hard to figure out the problem. The general manager came out and apologized to me and got me right on. I rented clubs and they were in good shape. Course was in good shape even though it was hot that day. Greens as a whole were in good shape and held and rolled good. When I was finished the staff cleaned my shoes and were very friendly. Overall a great experience.
JUNE pm 2015
BOOKED a 1:30 TEE TIME VeryBest RATE POSSIBLE thru golf now 60% am rate course is in good shape greens bumpy but holding. a hot and humid day, pace of play excellant as we teed off as a twosome played 18 less than 3.5 hrs
Good mix of shots required
I've chosen this course a few times when staying in PV. By far the best championship course for the money. The holes have interest and offer some great risk reward if you can carry the water or corner. I value a course where you can save strokes if you can work the ball. You also use every club in the bag. It also includes an island green par 3 that we always enjoy.
The course has never been the most manicured but the paspalum greens roll plenty smooth and the ball sits well in the fairway. There are plenty of bunkers and waste areas and the sand is average but playable. We played it twice this trip and will return in the future.
Repetitive holes
We seem to play the same holes over and over again, but overall its still a fun course. Not over challenging but interesting enough.
Very challenging course
A must play golf course in Puerto Vallarta with allot of water and sand traps that make it more challenging and fun to play.
Enjoyable
Enjoy the wide open fairways. Many Iquanas sitting on the rocks in the middle of the lakes and shorelines. Greens were in rough shape. Glad for cheaper price with golf now.
Good Challenge
Good challenge but the greens were the worst I have played, in 30 years of golf.
Would never play at full rate, but would play again.
Thanks golfnow for a decent rate !!
This could be a very good course
I played this course last year and found it to be a very good course but what a difference a year makes. The overall part of the course was still in good shape but the greens were in sad shape. I found them to be very hard, looked like a old carpet with sand scattered throughout. We also played Flamingo and found it to be in excellent shape and the fees were better. Hopefully El Tigre will improve because I'm also a member there.
Much improvement, excellent value with hot tee times
Played this course from blue tees last year..too difficult. White tees are challenging but playable due to wide receptive fairways. The course is peppered with difficult approaches, inc. multiple carries over water to well bunkered and protected greens, esp. the par 3's. GPS on carts and staked fairways were a big improvement from before, when it was nearly impossible to find a yardage marker. Beverage cart came by every 3 or 4 holes and cold cervezas cost less than in the states! Round took slightly less than 4 hours. Only complaint was a lot of sand on greens due to quite extensive grass kill or dormancy. Bonus sights are large iguanas throughout the course! I would definitely golf El Tigre upon my return to Nuevo Vallarta:) Joseph Fritz
Must Play!
El Tigre is a must play for anyone traveling to Puerta Vallarta. This was the first time I have vacationed down here and I will definitely be back. The course was in magnificent shape and the staff was overly accomodating.
Good resort course and fun to play
Enjoyable course with a nice layout with plenty of water holes. Course in generally good shape, but with some of the greens being stressed and bumpy. Course gets plenty of play so plan on a long round. Staff and facilities get a 4 on a scale of 5. Would play it again. Weather was great in January.
