A Taste of The 1960's
This expensive golf resort (what Naples course isn't) offers two courses, one short, the other longer and more challenging. Most of the fairways would not be considered 'wide' so it it is easy to stray for the less skilled player. The grounds are kept in quite good condition (now), and the constant smell of carcinogen laced-chemicals indicates the grass is sprayed on a daily basis. Given the rising popularity of golf, and the obvious demographics, the courses can become quite slow, especially the small Palmetto.
It can be a challenge booking times with the antiquated and cumbersome online system currently in use. While most modern courses confirm your tee time within minutes, this course can take days to get an answer - and you're limited as to how many days ahead you can book. It is easy to understand why some of the staff find the system confusing. Patience is a virtue.
I have lived in Naples for 20 years now, and can honestly say this club is obsessed with the attire rules: keeping the shirt tucked in at all times is a critical issue (not a problem for ladies though!!!). It borders on silly. But in fairness, they do have a large number of members with tummies that hang down a foot or so.
The 19th Hole restaurant provides good food (somewhat inconsistently) but is conveniently located. It can get quite warm in there given a lack of blinds on the fountain/pond windows and ceiling fans. But it too provides that feel of the 1960's with the neat, dated furniture. Haven't dined there yet, but people say they make a good Sunday breakfast.
