Marina Vallarta Golf Club is known for its stunning tropical landscape that is home to an abundance of wildlife. Golfers have the opportunity to play amongst iguanas and alligators while enjoying scenic views of the Bay of Banderas. The course is blessed with a bevy of natural hazards including towering palm trees, lagoons, and waterfalls. Colorful tropical flowers and native vegetation further accent the landscape. In addition to the natural hazards, there are also a few strategically placed bunkers along the greensides. The golf course offers a challenging but fair test that is not overly demanding, which is probably for the best since it is easy to get distracted by the beautiful surroundings. Given its versatility and scenery, Marina Vallarta G.C. has become a popular venue for various golfing events, including the Governor's Cup Pro/Am Tournament.

Fun golf but hard course

The course is hard to play but fun. We play several times when coming to PV. It is sad that the prices are so high to play when we come. The course is usually empty up to 2:00pm when we use golf now. If they would lower their prices they surely would get more golfers.

Love Marina Golf

Once again, we play at Marina Golf because it is convenient, challenging, and has a great staff. We sure wish we could play earlier in the day for less money. When we come to Mexico we play four times a week for three weeks. Would be so great if there was a package of rounds that made golf more reasonable. We play when it is super hot and no one is playing. But even so, we’ll continue to play.

Very well kept

Staff was friendly, and the course was very well kept. Had some sprinklers going while we golfed, but that was ok. A lot of the water hazards we drained and just sand. I personally like water, so I felt that was missing. But overall a great and challenging course!

Too expensive

The course is very expensive. We use golf now but have to wait until 2 o’clock to get on course. Usually there is no one on the course playing and it’s a shame we have to wait. It would be smart to reduce price and get more players. If not for golf now we wouldn’t play.

Too little bang for the peso

Paid $169 U.S. advertised as having views of the Bay/Ocean, one tee box only. No GPS or maps on scorecard., Greens in good shape. Would've been okay at $90.

Old Course

Marina Vallarta is mostly narrow fairways and water hazards on many holes. We stayed at the Marriot Resort, so the course location is ideal.

If you play in the afternoon, the winds are typically very strong, so making the right club selection is very important.

Most of the bunkers are in bad shape and in need of new sand,

Carts are mandatory and the cart path is cobblestone, ancient and badly in need of repair. Its a smoother drive the cart on the fairways.

The course is too expensive for what you get.

Potential

At normal rate I would have rated this course a 2 and only because the the great staff did I go with 3 stars.

For a course in the heart of PV / NV I was disappointed to fine the course to be the tropical version of a Del Webb community course like Timber Creek in Roseville CA..., but in significantly poorer condition.

Multiple lakes were empty and the course had significant burnt and brown fairway grass through out. Especially disturbing was the fowl sewer smell near the green on hole 15 (could be 14)...unmistakable methane odor was pungent!!!

The course doesnt use on cart GPS tracking and unless you know the course you're in for some challenges trying determine what lies around the dog leg on multiple holes. Lesson here...ask for a course guide book.

Lastly, there are some positives. Nature is everywhere on the holes and fairway lakes and ponds which have water....Nothing like seeing a 9 to 10' gator eyeballing while you setup your tee shot or having a 4' Iguana sun bathing on the green where you just landed your chip shot!

And, as noted earlier, the staff is exceptional both pre and post round...

In closing, if you really want to get out and golf while in Puerto Vallarta/Nuevo Vallarta...there are better options. Yes, those other options are more pricey, but from my experience...its a price worth paying for an overall better day of goal!!

Cheers!

Good course layout conditions could be better

All 18 greens were punched. Good pace of play. There are a couple of holes it is difficult to see the water hazards. Hiring a caddie would help if a first timer. Watch for alligators and iguanas.
