Vista Vallarta Golf Club - The Weiskopf Course
About
Vista Vallarta Golf Club offers two championship courses, one designed by Jack Nicklaus and the other by Tom Weiskopf. The Weiskopf Course provides a dramatically different round from the Nicklaus design. The other golf course sits atop the property's highest elevation while this one is situated at the lower west end. As you step onto the course and see the dense jungles that sprawl across deep ravines, you will hardly believe that it is still the same property. It offers the same level of challenge as the Nicklaus Course but some high handicappers prefer this one since there are fewer blind shots and the greens are more receptive, making them not quite as tricky. The 15th is an uphill par 3 that is probably the golf course's most memorable hole. This challenging hole requires a carry past a ravine to multi-tiered green that is surrounded by bunkers on all sides.

One of the best and most scenic tracks you'll ever play!!!
I played the course while on vacation in PV. One of the best golf courses I've ever played. And I have played a lot not only in the US but in Mexico too.The staff was very nice and overly helpful. Thanks gods of golf for this Gem!
A challenging test of golf
This course is a bit of a sleeper. First 9 holes are very fair if the wind is reasonable. The back 9 is very difficult - lots of barranca carries and most are in to the wind. The course is in excellent condition and was empty when we played. Greens are fast, sand is plentiful and frustration was high. A high handicapper will not enjoy the round. Friendly staff everywhere. Doubt I'll return with my 16 index.
good course but club rentals are ridicules
65 us for club rentals seems a bit steep no balls no tees
Some great holes
Well worth the golf now price of $100 but the regular rate of $209 is too much, typical Mexico.
Vista Vallarta
I played both courses , the golf was exceptional the Nicklaus course being the most forgiving
Very enjoyable
Fun course to play. Conditioning was very good. Lots of great views. Would definitely play it again. $200+ would be a bit much but well worth the $111 I paid using GolfNow.com.
Vista vallarta golf course conditions were excellent. The greens were in superb condition. There were few golfers so the pace was as quick or slower as per your choice. Beautiful weather and spectacular foliage and flowering plants. Very good sand traps of which there were many I found
Not easy but fun
It's a beautiful course to play in. It is a little on the expensive side, but it's a treat and we always like coming back. The staff is friendly.
Good Course, Awful Pace
This is a nice course. The layout through the hills and jungle is well done. Could use some tree removal to open up some great views, and create some long views off the back of the some of the greens.
The problem was the pace of play. They let two fivesomes off in front of a twosome, then us as a foursome. We were at least ten minutes late getting off the first tee, and waited on just about every shot. There was a ranger and he apologized throughout the round. I hope this was just a one-time occurrence, but it was really poor form. If you are wondering why golf is trending downward, look no further than an overpriced, cart only course that takes over five hours to play as the culprit.
Vista Vallarta's Weiskopf course will impress
While the Nicklaus course might be tougher, the Weiskopf course might be more fun.
Neither is so overwhelmingly good that the other should be ignored. I've seen multiple publications rank both among the top 20 courses in Mexico. In situations like this, I say play both on the same day. Make a day of it to enjoy the solid facilities and decide for yourself which one is best for your game.
Vista Vallarta's Nicklaus course rules Puerto Vallarta
It's been a long time since the Nicklaus course at Vista Vallarta was in the spotlight, when Japan's Toshimitsu Izawa and Shigeki Maruyama beat Phil Mickelson and David Toms in the 2002 World Golf Championships-EMC World Cup. But it's still a fine championship test of golf and one of the best courses in Mexico. When I played it, way back in 2007, the course was in pristine shape, although more current reviews question the health of its greens. Its a gnarly jungle layout situated in the mountains about a half-hour from Puerto Vallarta. It's well worth the drive to play all 36.
Simply gorgeous
Great course challenging but doable layout we loved it
Challenging course, grass conditions not great, Greens just OK
Played this course for $80us, so in my view a reasonable value at this cost. I would have been very unhappy if I had paid rack rate. Some of the greens have large dead spots, but roll fairly true compared to other courses that we played in the PV area of Mexico. In general, you need to have modest expectations when you play this area, there is no comparison to AZ for dollar value. As one golfer commented; if you want to golf, go to Arizona!
Course is in excellent shape, but they are overpriced both for green fees and especially food and drink
Only play it once or twice per year due to price but it is a beautiful course
Good layouts
Not worth the $150.00 usd green-fee's...Course conditions are average where it matters the most(on the greens!).The staff is not golf professionals so the pace of play is terrible. I was playing behind a sixsome of ladies with a course marshall that either didn't care or know that that shouldn't happen.I won't be back anytime soon! I have played the course every year for 6 years and the last few trips it has slowly gone downhill in all areas and has finally met my don't go back zone!
