Rough is super high for amateur's
Rough is super high for amateur's. Lost ball 10 feet off fairway really? This is not the US Open! Slow play. Staff great. .Costs to play Up!
Split rail
Overall was enjoyable round of golf, but the course does have a few spots that need to be taken care of
Split Rail
Rough height is high and hard to hit out of. Fairway good with a few brown spots. Greens ok. Ok value for the dollar.
Could get a 5++, if...
Absolutely love this course. However, there are some bald patches in the fairways. Not so much of a bother, but the rough, now that's a different story! It is thick: we couldn't even find our "yellow" balls in it as it is way too tall. Getting out of it is another battle. Split Rail, give us amateurs a chance and mow the rough to about 2" maximum. We love rough, but not this crazy thick stuff!
Not worth the fee
The conditions were pretty awful overall. Several fairways were poorly maintained. Several areas were taller than normal first cut roughs. The greens were heavily punched and sanded on every hole. Multiple holes had visible dirt. The "plugs" from punching were left on the fringe around the green. We need off mid morning and finished a couple hours into the afternoon. No drink cart until we got to the 18th. This course is not worth the $70+ green fee they charge. It was my first and likely last time playing this course.
The one bright spot was the staff. They were very friendly and helpful.
Course is rounding into shape from efforts to restore fairways and greens damaged by previous circumstances. The grass is lush and is being groomed after a very wet spring, the rough is thick but being managed down. Layout is best around, playing here is interesting and fun.
Nice Layout/Friendly Staff
This is a challenging layout that does make the first timer want to come back for the challenge. Really has a links feeling with rolling fairways and berms strategically placed. Greens were pretty good and rolled true.
The reviews throughout were true for me, if you are off the fairway you are penalized almost regularly with a lost ball. It’s frustrating to hit a decent shot and not be able to find your ball. Not sure what the is going on off the fairways but seems that could be managed a little more efficiently. With that said I’m excited about playing it again.
Great scenery
Course was very long and open. Trees were not too much of an issue. Only complaint was the grass was very long. 6" off the fairway and the ball was almost unable to be found.. Hoping if I play there again they will have cut the grass.
Ok course layout
We liked the layout. The rough was really long and had not been mowed in some time. About half the holes were cart path only.
Split Rail Golf Course
Very good layout. Course is recovering from damage from past years of dry weather and cold winter. Greens are coming back but quite slow with several areas that need repair.
The fairways are recovering but need lots of mowing, Rough is very unplayable in many places.
Wet and deep
Rough was very deep probably so much rain they cant get everything mowed. Very us openish Tough in average guy if you miss a fairway
All in All...just OK
Probably not worth the $60 / that we paid but the greens & tee boxes were pretty good & the fairways were OK. Hole #10 continues to plague this place every winter but the layout is quite challenging & pace of play was acceptable. $45 would have been more fitting to the condistions but all in all...just OK. Squaw Creek is in better shape....
The course needs some loving.
The fairway on a few holes were in bad shape (10 & 18). 90% of the greens were in good shape, great layout. The men's bathroom under the pavilion had dirty toilets. Tee boxes in good shape. Our tee time was 2pm, we saw the beverage girl 1 time.
Great course
Great course hidden gem!
Seeding half of the holes
So Ive never run into this during the summer, literally half of the holes were reseeded and cartpath only. Then a par 4 turned into a par 3 due to more maintenance. The greens have weeds frowning out of them. Half of the greens hav dead spots that are more like mini sandtraps. This place is in horrible condition. What ms sad is there is not mention of it in the website only posted outside the pro shop. Player beware, and stay away until it’s fixed.
Split Rail Hidden Gem!
Great course 👍 go play! The rough is rough! 6 inches deep! So leave your ProV 1's in your bag 🎒 if you do not hit them straight
Nice course just outside of FW
This is our second time playing Split Rail. It is a nice and relatively challenging course. It had rained before we arrived so the driving range was closed and there was substantial water on the ground. Cart path only rules make for quite a few long walks even if you are in the fairway. Good practice areas and staff is great. The course is in pretty poor condition in some spots. A lot of work going on and possibly because of recent weathers the greens were not mowed tight and rough was so long you will loose balls when you shouldn't if you happen to go even a foot off the fairway. Would definitely play again and hoping they are able to get out and mow soon to clean up the course a little.
Great layout, terrible shape
First time I played this golf course, so much for first impressions. Played this golf course this past weekend in a Golf Association Tournament. Great layout but too many bare areas with no grass. The grass in the rough was high in some areas, it was US Open style. rough in most of the areas. We paid $71 to play this golf course, too expensive for the condition it was in. I believe there was over 75 players, this golf course should have charged no more than $50 and that’s pushing it. There are better golf courses all over the metro area, ***don’t waste your money*** I understand it has been raining a
lot but still charging $71 dollars to play this golf course in such poor condition is highway robbery. They knew the club could not change golf courses in such a short amount of time and they took advantage of the club. Bad business!
