The Golf Club at Dove Mountain - Tortolita/Wild Burro

About
The desert foothills of the Tortolita Mountain Range provide the stunning backdrop for the three nines designed by Jack Nicklaus at The Golf Club at Dove Mountain. They are played in three different 18-hole combinations, one of them being Tortolita/Wild Burro. The Tortolita nine serves as the back nine for the PGA Tour's Accenture Match Play Championship, but Nicklaus considers Wild Burro to be the best of the three. Playing through canyons and desert washes, the golf course features dramatic elevation changes and stunning views. Tortolita's third hole has the highest elevation at the club while the ninth hole on Wild Burro is the longest finishing hole of any of the nines. The intricately contoured greens and strategic fairway bunkering provide a challenge for even experienced golfers.

Challenging and Rewarding
Tee time was a 6:30am and did not see another player all day!! Great fairways and greens and good sand In the traps, of which there are many!
Too Tough
This course is too difficult for 15-20 handicappers. Green complexes extremely challenging. Fun to play once.
Disappointing
Used to attend the World Match Play event annually and also played the course a half dozen years ago. Just moved backed to Arizona so had to play it again. Understand that it’s tough to maintain turf in Tucson this time of year but the conditions were disappointing. Areas just off fairways and greens were very unkept, with maintenance items scattered around as well. Expect better of Dove Mtn.
Challenging, Fun Course in High Style
My first time playing at Dove Mountain and I'll definitely be back. The course is challenging (especially the Wild Burro 9) but fair; and a lot of fun. Since it's in a luxury resort, the amenities are great: Food, shop, practice range, carts, etc. I only have 2 minor complaints: 1. Was surprised that some of the tee boxes were pretty burned out (I know it's June in Tucson, but there are plenty of other courses in the area with great tee boxes; and 2. There are tons of bunkers on this course, and I expected they would have had sand in them. They look like the do, but it's just hard pan. Especially with the number of greenside bunkers, it would be nice to have sand to play out of (I was lucky to only have 3 sand shots; my partner not so much). Otherwise a fun day and a really nice course.
Disappointed
Had long been looking forward to playing this course- and after doing so, never need to see it again. Unmemorable, remote, unkept. It seems once it was likely a better course, but they seem to have mostly let it go, and the layouts were obviously not Jack’s best work. The greens were in good condition, though sometimes almost goofy, especially the Wild Butro 9. Odd, steep undulations that a pro would struggle with & likely never tolerate. Tee boxes looked like they hadn’t gotten much attention in a week. No locker room near pro shop, no water on course nor beverage cart, though they did provide bottled water. The course is located remarkably far from anything. For the money I’d opt for Ventana Canyon in Tucson or Gold Canyon in Apache Junction.
Condition
For a course of this caliber that has played a professional event in years past, , the condition really was disappointing. spots in the fairways were very hard very little grass , bunkers you would actually hear the club tank off the concrete underneath the sand. That truly is unacceptable
Challenging but fair
Our foursome included three 1-handicaps and an 11. We played from the Yellow tees and it was challenging enough even though it was 200 yards shorter than we usually play. Conditions were HOT but not windy so pretty much optimum.
GPS on carts was helpful for distance to bunkers and carry over washes. The adventure begins when you reach the greens which were in great shape.
There was no beverage cart (slow day because of the intense heat) but there was an opportunity to stop at the "turn shack".
A championship course with spectacular views
Former home of the Accenture match play, this course is always a challenge with its length and strategic layout. Lots of fun with elevation changes, great views and your shots will travel a long way here.
In decline
Been playing here since the course first opened. Conditions have been on a long slow decline over the last 5 or 6 years. Climate is harsh but other courses around town seem to be managing better including a couple nearby munis. In addition to course maintenance, it is surprising to see significant damage to cart paths going unrepaired for years. Finally the massive build up of housing around the coursed tracts from the experience.
I am sure that I will keep coming back but it's disappointing to see the decline.
Great shape
The course was in good shape for this time of year. The greens are always challenging with their undulations. Pace of play was excellent.
Little forgiveness for errant shots
This course is gorgeous but challenging. There are ample fairway and green side sand bunkers, but also arroyos that traverse the fairways. Enjoy, and take in the beauty of the surrounding rock formations and saguaro forests!
