The Golf Club at Dove Mountain - Tortolita/Wild Burro
About
The desert foothills of the Tortolita Mountain Range provide the stunning backdrop for the three nines designed by Jack Nicklaus at The Golf Club at Dove Mountain. They are played in three different 18-hole combinations, one of them being Tortolita/Wild Burro. The Tortolita nine serves as the back nine for the PGA Tour's Accenture Match Play Championship, but Nicklaus considers Wild Burro to be the best of the three. Playing through canyons and desert washes, the golf course features dramatic elevation changes and stunning views. Tortolita's third hole has the highest elevation at the club while the ninth hole on Wild Burro is the longest finishing hole of any of the nines. The intricately contoured greens and strategic fairway bunkering provide a challenge for even experienced golfers.

#3 on Saguaro Photo submitted by timstaley on 10/25/2012
Amazing Golf Experience
To enjoy your day of golf make sure you choose the correct tees to fit your game. The fairway bunkers come into play but the fairways are forgiving. There are a few holes that require a layup shot because of desert. The greens are large, receptive to approach shots and the greens put fast. No water on the course for golfers but check your cooler on the cart. I went through a 4some after #1 and didn't see another golfer after that. Golfnow did say there would be a $5 fee for the Shark Experience charged at the course. I had a great day of golf.
Amazing Golf Experience
To enjoy your golf day make sure you choose the right color tee box to fit your game. The holes are laid out so that fairway traps come into play. Some holes have desert through the fairway so it requires some layup shots. The greens are very receptive for approach shots and fast for putting. Today, I went through a 4some after #1 and didn't see another golfer after that. You pay $5 for GPS and the yardages are right on. I enjoyed my day of golf on a beautiful course with great views!
Hit ‘em straight
Excellent conditions, fast greens, high end clubhouse and restaurant. The only drawback is the mandatory $5 fee for the in-cart entertainment system/GPS. If they’re going to charge for that the least they could do is get the pin positions right. Several were way off, the worst being a par three that was listed at 130 yards on the GPS but played almost 160.
Wonderful course.
I received a great rate at Dove Mountain. The course was wonderful, but the people at the golf shop made me pay an additional fee for the cart. According to the information that GolfNow gave me, the cart was supposed to be included. The time before, they didn't make me pay for the golf cart. Was the course worth it for the price? Yes, but this upset me a bit.
Fabulous course
Tough but very fair, since it was 110°, there were very few people playing but the course was in fabulous shape. The staff were awesome.
First time and not disappointed
First off this course is a little bit of a drive but don't let that be the reason you don't play it. This place was amazing. The staff was super friendly, the facility is to notch.(get there early to get full use of the practice areas). The layouts of these courses are tough but amazing and beautiful. The "shark" experience is very cool (the onboard gps is very very helpful with bunkers and layups). This course is an absolute must play and I think the PGA really messed up when they moved the tour to Scottsdale because this course blows the TPC away. Lots of bunkers, lots of layups and desert carries and very challenging. Will definitely be returning and taking advantage of the summer rates.. Amazing course..
Dove Mtn
This is a great course to play. You will use all of clubs in the bag. Had the course to myself.. Did not see any other players. Looking forward to playing it again.
wow
Too hard for high handicap golfer. Moved up to forward tees and it became more playable. Used to watch the pros play here and can understand their difficulties. Great views and beautiful area.
Buyer beware...
The course charged us an additional $5.00 per person (cart fee), over and above what we paid for with GolfNow, which included the cart. Upon checking in, the Pro Shop called it a "Shark Experience" fee, noting to us that the carts had GPS built in. BEWARE of this extra charge, which isn't shown anywhere on GolfNow when you book your tee time.
Course Layout Very Punitive
I'm a 5 handicap and found many of the holes and course conditions excessively difficult even from the 6,000 yard Yellow Tees. Fairways were dried out and while the greens were in good conditions, the undulations were extreme. Expect some 3 putts. Fairway bunkers were difficult to avoid and in some cases so deep had to hit a short iron just to get over the lip. Staff were very friendly, provided ice and water on the cart. GPS on cart a bonus.
Only played to take advantage of great rate. Better options in Tucson area.
Great course, super tough undulating greens
Course is good, was upcharged $11 unknowingly for Shark Experience, fairways in transition from winter rye to summer, some dirt in fairways, no problem for a player. No beverage service at the time of play.
Quick round in HOT conditions
I had not played at Dove Mountain in years but since the heat in on, the rates are more reasonable to play. The course was in very good condition for this time of year. The greens were nice with fair pin placements. The pace of play was real nice as you get into the hotter part of the day. The new carts are great as well with GPS and other options. I already booked my next round at Dove Mountain hoping for another quick round when the heat is on.
Dove Mountain
Course was in excellent shape even with the rain coming in the day of play. Range, greens, and fairways showed how much the people that work at the course pride themselves in giving the golfer the best round possible. The greeter for the carts even offered towels since it was pouring down before we started our round. Much apreciated from our group and another trip to play the other course is in the works.
Good value
The three courses at Dove Mountain are all very good, the on and off course views are terrific, and it is a pleasure to play here. There has been an extended period of drought in our area, and all of the golf courses are drying out, including this one. They have kept enough water on it to keep it acceptably playable, so it remains a very good value at this time.
Outside service was excellent, on the turn offered us more water.
always satisfying
One of the biggest bright spots of summer for me is the absence of the students and snowbirds and the drop in rates for our local top shelf courses.
First off, unless you are nearly a scratch golfer forget about the numbers. This is an interesting and beautiful course so just go enjoy it. Take a wet towel, a good hat, and go play in the heat. The cart comes with several bottles of water on ice too. Nice. A month ago they upgraded the carts to the Shark Experience so you ride around on leather seats, have GPS, and streaming sports.
The greens here are ridiculous and I mean that in a good way. They have more levels humps and inclines...it takes game to make sure you find the right spot to land your approach, and it takes game to give yourself the proper leave in the fairway to accomplish that. The greens are wonderfully smooth and probably run 10.5 on a stimp meter so they are quicker than your usual course but not crazy fast.
The staff is terrific, although I do wish they would get your bag BACK to the bag drop as quickly as they get it from the drop to your cart.
Take your time, appreciate the scenery and the mastery it takes to play this course well and treat yourself to this course.
