The Golf Club at Dove Mountain - Tortolita/Wild Burro
About
The desert foothills of the Tortolita Mountain Range provide the stunning backdrop for the three nines designed by Jack Nicklaus at The Golf Club at Dove Mountain. They are played in three different 18-hole combinations, one of them being Tortolita/Wild Burro. The Tortolita nine serves as the back nine for the PGA Tour's Accenture Match Play Championship, but Nicklaus considers Wild Burro to be the best of the three. Playing through canyons and desert washes, the golf course features dramatic elevation changes and stunning views. Tortolita's third hole has the highest elevation at the club while the ninth hole on Wild Burro is the longest finishing hole of any of the nines. The intricately contoured greens and strategic fairway bunkering provide a challenge for even experienced golfers.

One of the Best
Dove Mountain is one of my favorite courses. It's always in great condition, the staff is nice, and the views are amazing. I've only played in the very early morning or late afternoon in the summer and the pace of play was quick at those times.
Scenic and tough
The course has a great layout. We played Saguro and Wild Burro nines. Personally I think a set of tees in the 5600 range would be nice. Not being a long hitter I just used a few of the green tees and I’m not a lady. Course a bit dry but what do you expect in Marana in June. Tough but consistent greens. A fun day on the course !! JM
Pleasant surprise
Even though the booking site warned "aerification alert", course conditions were good - especially compared to other nearby courses.
I look forward to trying again in cooler weather.
Greenskeepers Ruined my round
What would have been an otherwise perfect golf outing was ruined by the course’s greenskeepers. I was first to start the day as a solo golfer at 6am. After completing the front nine, I caught up with the greenskeepers moving the pin on hole 11. I patiently waited for them to finish and leave before hitting my ball to the green. For the next 5 holes the flag was not reset in the hole leaving me to guess on my approach or leave my ball, drive up and replace the flag myself. This clearly appeared deliberate. I did share my complaint with pro shop attendant. They were very apologetic.
Worth the ride
Wonderful and fun layout. Hard course with or without wind. Good conditions and worth the ride from Scottsdale.
Golf Club at Dove Mountain
Played the Golf Club at Dove Mountain. Got a great rate using Groupon ($45). The course is in pretty good shape considering I think they just aerated. Arrived at around 7am for an 8am tee time. The place was a ghost town. I think one other car in the parking lot. There were no attendants to assist us with our clubs. The pro shop guy who checked us in also set us up with the carts. We ended up playing 18 in less that 3 hours. Had a great time however, who ever set up the pin placements made the greens very difficult to score well. Most of the pins were placed on the edge of all the undulations so if you happen to misjudge a put, it would roll onto the next level and usually cause a three put. Upon leaving, again no attendant. The parking lot now had about 10 cars in it. The service has definitely went down hill over the past few years. I don't see this place staying open unless they can attract the locals and bring back play during the summer.
Greens were just airated
Because the greens were just aerated they still let you play but don't warm you that they are not in good enough condition to be considered playable. Took the fun out of playing the course. consider you golf to be a joke on the greens.
4.658 stars
Jack built this course to destroy Tiger. It will likely destroy you! Try it from the tips and you're done! Longest course in Az??? A puma ate my drivers head cover!
Expected better conditions
I've played this course 3 or 4 times and conditions have always been excellent. This time, it appeared that they are having significant problems with their irrigation system. Many sprinker heads were apparently leaking and would have a stripe of green grass with brown grass all around. Lots of hard, crusty lies in the fairway. Greens were a bit slow due to recent aerating, but they did a good job with that and the greens rolled true. Hate to complain with such a good price, but they need to solve their watering problem.
Great course!
What a fun course! Great layout and routing! A true desert golf experience. Greens are hard, especially because if you've never played here, you may know the distance to the pin, but you have no clue about the undulations of the green, which are some of the most severe in AZ! Landing areas were more generous than you think from the tee, so it is visually challenging. Requires all parts of your game to be firing on all cylinders. You may not score well here, but you will have fun. I've played a LOT of desert golf courses in AZ, and this has to be one of the most picturesque.
Great Course
Great course, excellent conditions with some very challenging holes. Terrific layout did not see other golfers all day.
Bunkers in poor shape
Just the second time I've ever played this course and the last time was over 5 years ago. The fairways and greens were in nice shape and I love the layout and views. The staff was reasonably friendly. My main concern and reason I may not go back for a while was the bunkers. They look nice from a distance, with lovely white sand. But there's very little of that sand and beneath it is a very hard surface that makes it nearly impossible to get a good shot, especially from the greenside bunkers. Both greenside and fairway bunkers were in similar shape somehow I was in a lot of them! For a course of this caliber I was very surprised at this.
Not worth it
Course is too tricked up. Good shots roll into bunkers...heavily bunkered course. Greens extreme, wont hold shots, also roll into bunkers. Too many holes second shot like hitting up to the top of a mountain, surrounded by bunkers to a green shaped like a an inverted V...and rolls into a bunker.....
Very poor.
In the last three years declining rapidly.
Very disappointingly!
Great layout
Great course. Tough greens that make scoring difficult for amateurs but fun to play.
Beautiful golfcourse
Gorgeous views of mountains, desert and saguaro cactus. Course in great shape despite hot weather. Pace great...but we did play in 100+ weather so not many golfers out, a bit of desert to carry on some holes but all in all a great course.
Great Spa area
Enjoyed the golf course and had a fantastic massage. Price was reasonable and staff very friendly..
Fun second shot course
Love the course a great value. You can drive it in play, greens still tough to hit. High handicappers bring extra pills. Saguaro/Tortolita best nines. Good match play course for pros, tough to score. Conditions fine, a bit windy but fun. Worth the drive from Scottsdale. Generally no place to get a drink here on Tuesday but there are plenty of places nearby in the old Pueblo.
