The Golf Club at Dove Mountain - Tortolita/Wild Burro
About
The desert foothills of the Tortolita Mountain Range provide the stunning backdrop for the three nines designed by Jack Nicklaus at The Golf Club at Dove Mountain. They are played in three different 18-hole combinations, one of them being Tortolita/Wild Burro. The Tortolita nine serves as the back nine for the PGA Tour's Accenture Match Play Championship, but Nicklaus considers Wild Burro to be the best of the three. Playing through canyons and desert washes, the golf course features dramatic elevation changes and stunning views. Tortolita's third hole has the highest elevation at the club while the ninth hole on Wild Burro is the longest finishing hole of any of the nines. The intricately contoured greens and strategic fairway bunkering provide a challenge for even experienced golfers.

Very enjoyable rjound
It is fun to play a course where the pro's have played, just to see how you measure up. As it turns out, the pro's made it look like a much easier course to play than it is. The greens especially are quite challenging, but fair. Can't say enough good things about the experience.
One of the best GPS out there.
A must play Tucson destination
This was my first time playing Dove Mountain and I enjoyed it immensely. There is an outstanding practice facility, with real target greens, and greens for chipping putting, pitching and bunkers. I chose to play off the yellow tees, although I think I would have scored as well from the coppers. The course is beautifully laid out, taking advantage of the wonderful views and the terrain. Every hole seemed unique, some with carries over desert, some doglegged and pretty much all with large undulating greens, many elevated. Unlike others who have reviewed this course I found the greens to be in great condition and not impossible to read. The fairways and greens are heavily guarded by bunkers and my ball found many of them. It was great to find that the bunkers were dry, indicating good drainage, and that they had a layer of soft sand. Not so common among Tucson courses. The course was nearly empty on a Saturday afternoon (the steep regular green fees, or a final four match?) and two of us played in under four hours. Water was supplied, food trucks circulated and the toilets are well placed.
Hey "Tom4002346" thank you so much for the kind words. We are happy to hear that you really enjoyed your time out on the course along with our practice facility. We look forward to having you out here again soon!
Golf Club at Dove Mountain
Great first timer experience. Greens not as difficult as I had heard. Good fair layout, I.e., rewarded for good shot. Beautiful views.
Hi "Sop1" thank you so much for the 5* review! We are glad you enjoyed the course and the scenery and hope to see you next time you visit!
The greens were the most unique aspect of the course
Overall the course was in good shape. The greens were quite undulating but were a little slow.
Hey "u000007174019" We apologize you did not find the greens to be a little slow. We can assure you we are constantly working to improve and hope you will give us another chance to provide our normal excellent golfing experience!
Great layout with wonderful views
I thought this was a great course. The condition of the greens was not the best, especially on the Wild Burro nine. I got a good internet price but don't think the course is worth the full price in prime season.
Hi "hawkeyegolfer" we are sorry the conditions disappointed you and can assure you we are doing everything we can to get back to normal great conditions. We really appreciate the 5* review and hope to see you back out here soon!
Specctacular
Dove Mountain is the type of course that if you are in Tucson is a must play. We played the Tortolina and Sagauro courses and they were outstanding. The only problem we had was that a large corporate sponsor had taken over the golf facility for a cocktail party and when we finished we felt rushed and there was no pro shop open to shop or an restaurant/bar available for a post round drink.
Thank you so much for coming out to play and providing a 5 star review! We apologize for the inconvenience of the early closure, please come back soon so we can fully serve you after your round!
Very nice course and layout.
Course was very nice - lots of variety and bunkers galore. Greens were patchy and did not hold. Worth the reduced green fee but given the condition of greens - not worth the $179 normal cost. Staff very friendly and amenities excellent.
Hey "U00005659807" we are glad that you enjoyed the layout of the course! We are sorry that the greens did not meet your expectations. However, we are constantly working to make our course better and hope you will return soon.
Must Play
Must play if in the Tucson area.
Thank you for coming out to play Dove Mountain on your visit to Tucson! We are so glad you enjoyed your round and thank you for your 5 star review. Look forward to seeing you back soon!
Wild burro and Suharita
The 2 nines we played were great layouts and in great shape. It is an expensive course but a must play.
Thank you so much for coming out to play and providing a 5 star review! We look forward to seeing you back soon!
Thanks so much for coming out to play and your 5 star review! We are so happy you enjoyed our layouts and hope to see you back again soon!
Great course and amazing views
I was visiting the area the first week of March, and my brother in law set up the tee time for us. The course was in great shape, and the staff was very friendly and accomodating.
This was my first round of the year since I am from a colder climate, but we selected the Copper tees and found it to be just the right distance for us. The only problem I had was adjusting to the altitude - you need to experience it to understand how it affects your game.
The views around the course are incredible - I enjoyed the entire experience. Our wives game up and joined us for dinner - I would recommend this as well, the food was pretty good and the view from the outside dining area was awesome.
Overall a great day and I can't wait to come back next year!
We are thrilled to hear you enjoyed the course and the dining! Thank you for coming out to play and providing your feedback. We look forward to seeing you back on your next visit!

A pro course
These guy's are good and it's true. worth the price just to ply where they played. Not easy but playable. Ondulate green hard to control.
Thanks so much for coming out to play! We are so glad to hear you enjoyed your day at Dove Mountain and we look forward to seeing you back again soon!
The wild burro 9 not worth the bother
3 9 hole courses at this club. I would not recommend playing the wild burro 9. Layout not nearly as nice as other two nines and the greens on wild burro are stupid with the huge undulations and pin placements. I would only play Dove Mountain if the course rotation was saguaro - tortolita.
play where the pros played
its fairly easy to reach the greens for an average golfer, but putting the greens was a different story. The most beautiful course I have ever played.
Thrilled to hear you appreciated the beauty of the course! Thanks for coming out to play and we hope to see you again soon!
Dove Mountain review
The service, facilities, condition, layout of the course was first-rate. The practice facilities were excellent. I really did enjoy the scenery around the course - some very nice vistas throughout. The course was quite a difficult test. However, it was vey playable if you used your head and did not bite off more than you could chew. I am a senior golfer - the yellow tees ( which we played were a bit long) and the forward tees quite short. A middle set of tees would have been helpful. In all though, it was a very good golfing experience. I would definitely like to play this course again, if given the opportunity.
Thanks so much for your feedback! We're glad to hear you will be back. We will continue to provide you with first-rate service, facilities, condition, and layout of the course!
Glad I played it; won't rush back
Played the Tortolino / Wild Burro nines. Course was in the best condition of several Tucson courses I've played this month, largely because of the overseeded and irrigated rough areas. Greens were also in very good condition. Layout is good and challenging but course knowledge critical to posting a good score. (My first trip around the course). My criticism of the design is the precision required particularly on approach shots. Miss a spot by 5 feet and you are in a trap or 30 feet off the green. Greens are also very challenging with both major undulations and also very subtle, difficult to read breaks. Rather windy conditions added to the challenges of the day. Got around losing only one ball, but my playing partners were not so fortunate.
Overall, I am glad I took the opportunity to play with a good end-of-day rate, but I don't expect to hurry back, a sentiment echoed by my partners for the day. But at a good rate and with less wind, I would play it again.
We are glad to hear you appreciated our course conditions. We hope you will come back to enjoy the course fully on a less windy day! Thank you for coming out to play and providing your feedback!
Dove Mtn
Course is really good, great shape, and great to play among lots of saguaro's. Really like the golf course.
Awesome to hear you enjoyed your time visiting us! Thank you for the 5 star review! We appreciate your feedback and look forward to seeing you back soon!
worth the drive
down from phoenix for a day. had played before and enjoyed greatly again. I scored about 10 strokes higher than handicap, but better toward end. Would be great week end outing to stay and play
Thank you so much for the five-star review and for recommending our course! We appreciate you making the drive to check us out and for taking the time to fill out a review afterward.
Superior Course and Conditions!
The course is a "Must Play' if your in the Tucson area. It is very well designed with fairness, and you have to have game and be accurate. The staff was wonderful and I would play it again as soon as I'm in the area!
Thank you so much for the five-star review! We are thrilled to hear you enjoyed the course so much and we hope to see you again soon!
Challenging
If you are 10 plus handicap don't bother playing this course. Not designed for the everyday golfer. Brutal greens and lots of long carries.
Thank you for coming out to play and we apologize if you found the course a bit too challenging for you. The greens do have some movement to them, but are overall fair. We hope you will return for another round.
beautiful course
I would not recommend a beginner to play this course. Will be too frustrating when it comes to putting. Not only undulating but very fast greens.
Layout is nice with a beautiful landscaping to go with it. It is worth driving up there from Phoenix.
Thank you for coming out to play and for the four-star review. Our greens can pack a punch, but if you keep the ball below the hole you can also score. We hope to see you again soon!
Hey "Bruin69" thank you for the review and we appreciate the positive feedback! Hope to see you again soon.
