About
Long and susceptible to the wind, White Stone Golf Club rolls through an impressive Hill Country-like setting with huge oak trees, lots of rocks, and loads of native oaks, cacti, yucca, and wildflowers.
Bunkers are everywhere on this 7,100-yard Jeff Brauer design, and water comes into play on about seven holes. The key to scoring well is keeping the ball below the hole, avoiding nasty downhill putts on the extremely fast greens. White Stone's par 5s are tough, and average golfers should probably play them conservatively and be happy just getting there in three, since three out of four are fronted by hazards and require carries.
On the front nine, no. 1 tests you early -- it’s a 555-yarder with a creek that crosses the fairway and forces a layup on the second shot. No. 9 is nice as well, a 360-yarder that should be played with a short iron to lay up in front of the creek. This hole features a nice dip in the center of the green that requires knowing the correct pin placement.
White Stone Golf Club's back starts strong like the front, opening with a 580-yard par 5 with a sloping fairway that is cut by the creek on two occasions. No. 11 is the best par 3 on the golf course -- a 200-yarder that plays dow hill over a creek and into a creek surrounded by bunkers.

Greens were very disappointing
Booked a hot deal 5 days in advance and was excited to play as lots of trees/brush had been cleaned out since I'd last played here. Looks MUCH better without the brush and enjoyed how open it was. Apparently, they forgot to spend money on their greens as over half of them were rotten. I know we had a tough winter, but other courses in the area made it through without the damage that Whitestone apparently had from it. Fairways were nice, some hard pan lies are out there on some holes. Bunkers were decent. The best part that of the course was the tee boxes as they were for the most part PLUSH!
While we enjoyed the new carts they've installed and the free range balls, I still don't think the daily rate is justified for what they are wanting. I'm thinking 30-35$ is fair for this course. Anything over that and I think you are overpaying.
Putting money into it.
It is very easy to see money is being put into the course. The greens were not in good shape, may have affects from the winter storm. Tee boxes were the best I’ve seen them. Fairways were average for this tune of the year.

Nice course, but....
I've been playing Whitestone for 20 years. It's a great course, but lately the conditions haven't been as good. The greens were really bad today. Most of the greens had a lot of sand that was dyed green. Not sure if they aerated or suffered because of the freeze from a few months ago. Lots of rough dry spots throughout the fairways. The new carts were really nice however. I will always love Whitestone, but the current conditions concern me. Are they going to sell because of the possibility of housing or are they going to put some money into the course and bring it back to how it used to be?

Pace of play.
We ended up only playing 15 holes because it was so slow (5.5 hours). First hole had two groups waiting to tee off and three groups playing the hole. The pro shop did end up giving me two rain checks.

Great course! Love all the “extras”. Unlimited range balls, towels, tees, water, etc...lots of staff to take care of you. This is how a golf course should be managed. Lots of other DFW courses should take note. Well done All! Give this course a try.

Hard to believe this is hosting US Open qualifying
There’s like no grass. All the greens were beyond dead. My pitch marks just made craters. I couldn’t even repair them Bc I would just rip out dead grass. Somehow qualifying is taking place here.
I’ve driven by a few times and routinely see people driving up to the fringe to park their carts. Doesn’t seem like there’s much respect for the course looking at spike marks and tire tracks near the greens.
However, this course could be a real championship track. Has potential

Tough to rate
Came down to play Whitestone because it's hosting a US Open qualifier this year. Kind of tough to rate because conditions are still pretty rough coming out of winter dormancy and the greens were sanded. I found the course to be pretty straight forward and not too many tricks. #10 was tough around the corner to the right and a few more tough spots on the back. It appears the greens are the reason it was selected to test the qualifiers - wicked greens. LOTS of slope and LOTS of undulations. They could make it impossible if they want to. I would say the course rates a fair 4 because it has a lot of championship qualities, but would have to see it in normal conditions to rate it any higher than that. Staff was a bright spot. Very Bad Shape right now
Course was in worst shape I have seen it in since 1st playing there when it opened. Greens are hard and did not hold a shot and were like putting on cart a path . Lots of dirt and very little grass to hit off of.Will not be returning here until the late summer and hopefully grass comes in. Staff was great very friendly .

Very slow pace of play.
This course is regularly starting to be one of the slowest pace of play courses in the DFW metroplex. Our tee time was for 1222p on a Sunday. Our group started about fifteen minutes late, which isn't too bad, the first tee was backed up. However, finishing the round around 540p made our round over five hours long and that is just ridiculous. Something needs to be done about the pace of play. Course is in very good condition and still one of my favorites in the area.

Pretty good greens. Bunkers need work. Balls are included in you round. It’s still hard pan in the fairways, but that’s expected at this time of the year.
