Stone River Golf Club

My normal group wasn't playing so I played as a single. Staff added me to a threesome and off we went. Range is short. Short irons only. No issues with that. At least I got to warm up. Based on the reviews I wasn't expecting much, but was pleasantly surprised.

Course layouts was fun with plenty of open space but challenging tee shots on bseveral holes. Greens we generally good but very slow. Chips tenderd to rollout 2-3x further than expected so I had a lot of long putts that I generally left short. Part of the game I supposed. I chalked that up to never playing there before.

There were two holes that had temp tee boxes as they tried to fix the fairways. Some tee boxes were very torn up and super hard to sink a tee but at least they were mostly level. No gps on carts so it was good I had my GPS with me. Def helped

All in all I liked it and will go back again. If they had a dedicated maintenance program to soften up the greens, make them more receptive and grow the fairway and tee boxes back, it would be a hidden gem.

Staff was friendly and helpful. This is not some high end course. As long you know that going in, you will have a good time. It's a small muni that wasn't expensive. Def worth the green fee today. Will go back for sure.

The course is coming along nicely! They had crews out laying sod and making other improvements while I was there which was great to see. Course conditions are much better than what they’ve been the last year or so.

They are working their butt off to make this course nice. The staff is GREAT, except for the middle aged lady that works the desk (Not Miss T). Everyone is so nice except her. She is rude no matter the day or time.

Convenient and affordable, course conditions are very bad due to a staff member that oversprayed.

Very beginner friendly and enjoyable course other than poor conditions and greens that were inconsistent due to lack of watering.

I am happy to announce that the new Superintendent is repairing the damage caused by last summer's drought and neglect. The fairway grass will be back and things will be green again. The greens are already recovering and looking better every day. Excess rains caused a slow down in the plans but they are back at it again. New seed and sod will fix the worst of it but these things take time to grow. They were not able to mow due to the rain and are caught up again on the mowing. The fertilizer certainly did it's job. Please be patient, they are working hard to get Stone River back into the shape it needs to be in and the quality the members and guests have come to expect.

This is the 3rd time I've played here and it was in the best shape of those visits. The only problem was long grass or clumps of recently mowed grass in fairways -- we lost 2 or 3 balls that had clearly landed in the fairway, but were unable to spot them. Otherwise, enjoyed it.

Apparently they do not have a greens keeper or course maintenance staff. Fairways appeared to have not been maintained or mowed in months. Course (fairways included) full of muddy low spots, damage and ruts, grass was patched here and there on several holes, but grass was 6-8 inches high because of not mowing. One hole was 80% mud and not grass. Would not recommend.

Came a couple days after it rained so tough to grade conditions fairly. However, hit or miss conditions. Pace of play was good, over solid, nothing spectacular. Good people and good experience, I was able to teach my younger brother golf and had a great time.

The course is a goat ranch. Don’t waste your time.

Greens had been aerated and sanded recently - so no problem there. I knew what to expect - even though it was not what i had hoped for. But, I know the greens need it during the year. It had rained that week, so it was cart path only - extremely muddy!! Some of the fairways seemed to have as much mud (bald spots) as grass, which is what I think was most disappointing.

On the first hole I thought I just saw wet piles of grass in the "fairway, but when I got down there, it was just dirt and the fairways had not been mown (10:30 am). I really hoped I was going to see fairways, but I was wrong. I would definitely say the pictures are deceiving (a perfect day on one of the holes that had been freshly mown). The driving range there is not worth the money. Irons only and $10 for about 60 balls. It was good enough to get loosened up before the round. All in all, I don't expect I'll be driving back over there for another round.

The back 9 was decent. The front 9 needs some serious TLC. Pace of play was terrible. 5 hours for 18 holes. Tee boxes and fairways were dirt. Some green were too.

This was my first time playing and I was highly disappointed. The fairways on the front 9 look worse than my hay pasture with 72 head of black angus. I understand times are hard. But it was rather frustrating due to not being able to drive on the fairways, being cart path only. Not sure what they were trying to gain being that it wasn’t wet. Hope this helps
