About
Conveniently located near downtown San Antonio not too far from Austin, Vaaler Creek Golf Club has a memorable layout of gently rolling hills dotted with creeks, ponds and lakes. The course begins with a challenging front nine and then eases up a bit on the back nine, but overall it is a formidable test. The greens are tricky and demanding, especially on the front nine where there are some severe slopes and undulations. The back nine greens are a bit flatter but they still require careful attention. The rolling, contoured fairways are lined with trees and there are deep bunkers strategically guarding the greens, but luckily there are only seventeen of them. Water hazards come into play throughout and there are also several doglegs and blind shots if there wasn’t enough to keep you on your toes.

Didn't Disappoint Again
Played a couple of other courses the week in Austin that were no where near the condition of Vaaler. Not to say this was the greatest condition but was definitely playable and somewhat challenging. Worth the trip.
Nice layout
Course was in great condition. We had trouble with GPS on the golf cart as we had to drive in reverse on several holes on the cart path. Three holes when leaving the green headed to the next tee box while on the cart path the cart would shut down and had to drive in reverse for 75-100’.

Valeer Creek slip n slide
I had a lot of fun on this course. It’s challenging but not impossible. The fairways and greens were phenomenal
Slow play
They let groups of 5 tee off and the pace of play shows. Great course and layout but only come here if you want a 5hr+ round

Slow play
They let groups of 5 go off and the slow play is awful. Only come to this course if you want a 5hr+ round. Beautiful and challenging course but the slow play is the worst around

Great course, but pace is getting slower every time.
This is a really fun course to play but the pace has gotten progressively slower every time I go out. Just this last time, the entirety of the back nine was stacked at least two groups deep at the tee boxes.

Exceptional Golf Experience
Challenging unique design. Prior knowledge of the yardages required for layup distance. Hit a couple of drivers perfect right into the hazard. Condition for time of year was good.The bathroom was in bad condition. No water available on the course. Traps needed manicured in some situations.

Very much position course
Many corners , sloping fairways and tilted greens make it a difficult course especially the first time . Throw in a creek that meander thru and well placed traps it might have you pulling your hair out. The fairways and greens were in great shape especially for early March.
The man in the pro shop acted like he didn't care if you were there or not ; however, there was an extremely helpful lady there .

Unorganized
I was quoted a price of $45 and charged $50. They also charged $25 for my friend’s wife to ride along. The carts are in a tent past what looks like the main building but by the time we found out we had walked about a quarter mile to the player assistant who explained and had carts brought to us. He was very friendly and the biggest plus of my experience there.

Hill Country disappointment
The drought has made the Texas Hill Country very sad right now. Most of the water features were bare or vey low. It needs water.

Fabulous Course
Well designed with length for every skill level. Even though there had been significant rainfall in past 48 hours, the course was in great condition. Love playing at Vaaler Creek!
Nice layout with massive potential
Nice layout but the course is getting too many rounds of play per year for the ground crew to keep up with needs. Could be a hidden gem and appears that a dues increase would greatly benefit this facility.
