ShadowGlen Golf Club
About
Located just 15 minutes northeast of downtown Austin, ShadowGlen Golf Course is considered by locals to be one of the area's hidden gems. At 7,174 yards from the back tees, it is a long, tough course that will test even the most seasoned players. Some consider it to be the most difficult public golf course in Texas. The layout has a links design that is mostly flat but there are a few hilly spots that can cause some trouble, especially the holes that were designed with steep drops. The narrow fairways require accuracy and the well manicured greens play fast and are often bordered by strategically placed bunkers or contoured mounding. There are also water hazards coming into play throughout, including the wandering creek that cuts across the golf course.

Hype
Low key this course is sick. Its no Simi Hills but great course to get faced and dome a woods or 10 with the boys.
Overall Solid Course
Me and three of my buddies played this course on a Sunday, and overall were very pleased with the course as a whole. It was sporadically raining throughout the day but was still playable, a few greens need repair (either with big bald spots around the fringes or grass that was just repaired but not fully meshed with the existing green), but the fairways, tee boxes, and bunkers were all in good condition. Would certainly play again, but was a tad expensive considering the location and quality, Avery Ranch is an equally nice course for $15 cheaper
Dear u314161817069, thanks for your feedback. We are glad that you and your friends enjoyed the course. The course is in the process of coming back from verification and this years crazy weather, so there are some areas like you mentioned. And btw, our weekend rates are cheaper than Avery's.
Avery:
Open-1: $85
1-2: $54
3-4: $49
After 4: $38
Ours
Open-1: $75
1-4: $49
After 4: $30
Greens are getting nice!
Great day @ SG. Greens rolled true, great layout. When T-boxes grow in, & if they would cut more of the wild fringes, it would be 5-Star.
Better than expected
After reading sour reviews by some persnickety players about the greens, I was skeptical. With only two greens affected, they had weathered the February freeze very well compared to all the courses I usually play at East and South of Manor. Those greens were ALL Destroyed by the freeze so hats off to the greens keepers at Shadowglen for a great job. Yes, they were slow but in a recovery phase, at least they were green. Fairways were in great shape and the areas around the greens were lush.
Dear allergydoc, thank you so much for your review. We value your feedback and really appreciate you understanding the effect that this years weather has had on the course, and the increased stress and workload placed on our maintenance crew. We hope to see you out again soon!
Great course but drop the trash booking service
Had a lovely time out at ShadowGlen. Course is a bit rough around edges in places after the crazy snowstorm and month of rain we've had but greens are rolling great! just a bit slower than normal.
Word of advice: BOOK OVER THE PHONE. Watched this online discount golf site for 15 years deteriorate and now become corrupt. Reserved for a few sundays ago only to discover the site changed the date to two days later. Spent the next two days calling, and online chat to cancel to no avail... numerous disconnections, phone messages to call during work hours only to discover they no longer service cancellations on the phone and when you try to use chat, they want information you cannot access while mobile... all purposeful to keep your money corruptly
Stu
Stu,
Thank you for your review, we are glad that you enjoyed the course, and we thank you for not blaming the course staff for golfnow's issues
Course needs work and is being worked on.
I love this course usually. Unfortunately it’s in really bad shape right now , it’s never been this bad. It’s always in very food shape anytime I go , I’ve been about 20 times in the last 12 months. Great course but I’m staying away until they fix it.
Dear rwhitton9891, we completely understand your frustration with the course conditions. Its been a freak year of weather between the 100 year freeze, the recent course flooding, and now the returning drought conditions. Additionally, this is the time of the year where the course is transitioning from ryegrass to Bermuda, and due to the inconsistent weather this spring, the ryegrass has died off before the Bermuda has had a chance to grow in. Combine that with recent affects of aerification; we'll be the first to admit the course isn't in peak shape right now. Our greens however are recovering from aerification much faster than last year, which has us all very excited! We hope to see you out again before the summers over
it was hot!
golf was fun, felt like baking in an oven. the course is great, shot close to my average, 5 of 5 stars, will tee it up there again soon.
Bad conditions
Greens were ruined and extremely slow. Horrible maintenance work all around. For $40 sure, but at $80+ on the weekends you’re far better off taking your money elsewhere
Dear NSCHIP94, we understand your frustration with the course conditions. The course is transitioning from ryegrass to Bermuda right now, and due to the strange weather circumstances this year the rye has died out before the Bermuda has had a chance to grow in making the course appear in much worse shape than it actually is. Part of the course and range flooded a few weeks ago, and we recently aerated the greens which does not help in the short run. We hope you give us another chance when the course has had a chance to recover
Wonderful morning, will be back!
Had an excellent Monday morning out at ShadowGlen. The two young ladies working that morning were so friendly and welcoming, had a breakfast taco before I teed off which was well worth it! Course was green and lush, felt like I was somewhere other than Austin. Very serene on the back 9 with lovely views all throughout. Recently aerated greens were MUCH better than I expected. Overall a well kept well run course in my humble opinion
Dear AlexBrahea143, we are so glad that you had such a great experience out here. We rappreciate you taking the time to share your experience; the two girls working last Monday especially appreciate it!! Hope to see you out here again soon
Shadow glen, the best course this side of 290 in Manor
I really like this course. It is tough and not forgivable on some holes. Back 9 has elevation and blind shots; front 9 is links style with water…more or less. The greens are still recovering from the snowpocalypse, but so are most of the courses in the area. The club house is fully open. I think this is the closest thing to an open country club along with falcon head (I don’t include wolfdancer). Price point is amazing with hot deals. It was just hot, Jesus it’s hot in Austin in the summer. However, they had water jugs on the course and sand in repair jugs unlike some of the other peasant courses around.
jk1122, thank you so much for your great review! We appreciate your kind words and hope to see you back out here again soon
Fun course
Even though there were wet areas and some tees were slippery from the rain, I really enjoyed playing the course. The people were friendly and the price was attractive.
Nice layout, rough conditions
The course has nice holes, well laid out. But the course is in rough shape. The greens are frankly terrible. Putts bounce on them as they are not smooth and many of them have major bare spots. The 3rd hole is really bad. The fairways are fine but tee boxes are also really beat up. May be a nice course but not now
Jamillahh, we realize the course is not in peak shape at the moment. Our greens were hit pretty hard by the winter storm, and now for the first month of bermuda growing season we've had nothing but rain. Combine that with us being busy and tons of foot traffic and it doesn't bode well for conditions in the short run. Come back later in the summer when our greens have had a chance to recover from aeration, I guarantee you'll be glad you did
GREAT customer service
I love this course and the layout but it is the customer service that has me loyal. They aren't perfect, but they don't act super pompous and pretend like they are, they will ALWAYS acknowledge your issue and hear you out when pace of play gets really bad or it starts downpouring they are always good about offering rainchecks or refunds. None of that Falconhead bs.
WALDENSCHRO56 we really appreciate your review. Customer service is a priority for us and always will be. Thank you for your business, we hope to see you again soon
Thanks for the dope review! Hope to have you guys back soon.
