ShadowGlen Golf Club
About
Located just 15 minutes northeast of downtown Austin, ShadowGlen Golf Course is considered by locals to be one of the area's hidden gems. At 7,174 yards from the back tees, it is a long, tough course that will test even the most seasoned players. Some consider it to be the most difficult public golf course in Texas. The layout has a links design that is mostly flat but there are a few hilly spots that can cause some trouble, especially the holes that were designed with steep drops. The narrow fairways require accuracy and the well manicured greens play fast and are often bordered by strategically placed bunkers or contoured mounding. There are also water hazards coming into play throughout, including the wandering creek that cuts across the golf course.

it was hot!
golf was fun, felt like baking in an oven. the course is great, shot close to my average, 5 of 5 stars, will tee it up there again soon.
Bad conditions
Greens were ruined and extremely slow. Horrible maintenance work all around. For $40 sure, but at $80+ on the weekends you’re far better off taking your money elsewhere
Wonderful morning, will be back!
Had an excellent Monday morning out at ShadowGlen. The two young ladies working that morning were so friendly and welcoming, had a breakfast taco before I teed off which was well worth it! Course was green and lush, felt like I was somewhere other than Austin. Very serene on the back 9 with lovely views all throughout. Recently aerated greens were MUCH better than I expected. Overall a well kept well run course in my humble opinion
Dear AlexBrahea143, we are so glad that you had such a great experience out here. We rappreciate you taking the time to share your experience; the two girls working last Monday especially appreciate it!! Hope to see you out here again soon
Shadow glen, the best course this side of 290 in Manor
I really like this course. It is tough and not forgivable on some holes. Back 9 has elevation and blind shots; front 9 is links style with water…more or less. The greens are still recovering from the snowpocalypse, but so are most of the courses in the area. The club house is fully open. I think this is the closest thing to an open country club along with falcon head (I don’t include wolfdancer). Price point is amazing with hot deals. It was just hot, Jesus it’s hot in Austin in the summer. However, they had water jugs on the course and sand in repair jugs unlike some of the other peasant courses around.
jk1122, thank you so much for your great review! We appreciate your kind words and hope to see you back out here again soon
Fun course
Even though there were wet areas and some tees were slippery from the rain, I really enjoyed playing the course. The people were friendly and the price was attractive.
Nice layout, rough conditions
The course has nice holes, well laid out. But the course is in rough shape. The greens are frankly terrible. Putts bounce on them as they are not smooth and many of them have major bare spots. The 3rd hole is really bad. The fairways are fine but tee boxes are also really beat up. May be a nice course but not now
Jamillahh, we realize the course is not in peak shape at the moment. Our greens were hit pretty hard by the winter storm, and now for the first month of bermuda growing season we've had nothing but rain. Combine that with us being busy and tons of foot traffic and it doesn't bode well for conditions in the short run. Come back later in the summer when our greens have had a chance to recover from aeration, I guarantee you'll be glad you did
GREAT customer service
I love this course and the layout but it is the customer service that has me loyal. They aren't perfect, but they don't act super pompous and pretend like they are, they will ALWAYS acknowledge your issue and hear you out when pace of play gets really bad or it starts downpouring they are always good about offering rainchecks or refunds. None of that Falconhead bs.
WALDENSCHRO56 we really appreciate your review. Customer service is a priority for us and always will be. Thank you for your business, we hope to see you again soon
Thanks!!
I wanted to switch out the grip on my driver to a Golf Pride multi-compound because it was raining, and the staff had a new grip on my club in just a few minutes. Thirty minutes later, I could use the driver with the new grip and it made all the difference in the rain! I'm amazed how few courses offer this basic service anymore
Wet but worth it
A little interesting with the flooding and a few of the holes being closed, but they made the best of it and were nice enough to give us a good discount on our rounds and the staff was very helpful and friendly with everything. Looking forward to seeing what this course is like when its had some time to dry out. Fairways were in surprisingly good shape though - not muddy. Greens were a bit slow obviously but course overall looks pretty quality
We appreciate your good review, and especially appreciate you guys being understanding of the conditions and having a positive attitude about it . Certainly not an ideal day for golf but the last thing we want to do is deprive people of memorial day golf! Come back soon!
Used every club in the bag
My friend and I played this beautiful course on Friday May 28th. We arrived early and were greated by a very friendly staff member who showed us to our buggy was able to get us out early, in fact some junior members were held back in order to let us tee off, thanks to them for kindly waiting. The course it self played very well considering the amount of rain that had fallen in the previous week and we will not hesitate to book again. Very nice bar area with outside seating overlooking the course.
Thank you for writing such a nice and well written review, we appreciate your feedback and are glad you had such a great time. Great username by the way we love it
Lush like the amazon rainforest
Beautiful shape after all the rain, overall in great shape
All around very solid
Place is the best. My friends and I have been coming here all year, course is one of best in town in all categories, great range especially. Also they don’t require masks which seems to keep out a lot of the nervous negative and rude people . Every member or person ive met or played with here has been nice and genuine. Same thing with staff, and nothing is ever too much for them they’ll bend over backwards for you.
Glad I played here!
Great time out at ShadowGlen, course lush and in excellent shape. Hadn’t played here in awhile because had heard greens weren’t in good shape, but that can’t be farther from the truth they are as good as anywhere right now. Sorry y’all can’t putt
Great value for the money
Great variety of holes on a well designed track. Course is in good shape overall this Spring. Shadow Glen is very much growing on me. Will be a regular course in our rotation.
We appreciate you taking the time to review the course, thank you for your kind words and we hope to see you out again soon
Dear NSCHIP94, we understand your frustration with the course conditions. The course is transitioning from ryegrass to Bermuda right now, and due to the strange weather circumstances this year the rye has died out before the Bermuda has had a chance to grow in making the course appear in much worse shape than it actually is. Part of the course and range flooded a few weeks ago, and we recently aerated the greens which does not help in the short run. We hope you give us another chance when the course has had a chance to recover
