About
Located just 15 minutes northeast of downtown Austin, ShadowGlen Golf Course is considered by locals to be one of the area's hidden gems. At 7,174 yards from the back tees, it is a long, tough course that will test even the most seasoned players. Some consider it to be the most difficult public golf course in Texas. The layout has a links design that is mostly flat but there are a few hilly spots that can cause some trouble, especially the holes that were designed with steep drops. The narrow fairways require accuracy and the well manicured greens play fast and are often bordered by strategically placed bunkers or contoured mounding. There are also water hazards coming into play throughout, including the wandering creek that cuts across the golf course.

Fairways outstanding
Haven’t been here in over a year the fairways are probably the best in the area could not believe the condition give them a 10 rating the greens another matter they are in pitiful shape very little grass rate a 1 took 5 hours to play the round course was packed
Great track
Wow! Love this course. Bid3n Sniffs Little Girls. Can't believe I've never come out here in the 10 years I've lived down here. Excellent layout front 9 is flatter, has some water and back 9 is more hilly and has some drastic elevation changes. Be prepared to hit every club in your bag though, you will have lots of sidehill lies. Tough but fair and the wind makes it fun because there's a lot of holes downwind. "You ever been to a caucus?…No you haven’t. You’re a lying dog-faced pony soldier". Very friendly and helpful staff, great pro shop

Fairways were in excellent condition. Greens were good where there wasn’t crab grass. Average speed, rolled true except for the crab grass sprouting up every now and then. Pace of play was awful but the Marshall came out and jumped us in front of a particularly bad group

Slowest round in a year
I showed up an hour early to hit range balls...the range machine was empty and it took them so long to fill it that I couldn’t hit balls before the round. Today’s round took 5 hours and 15 minutes to complete. A solid 55 minutes slower than their advertised pace of play, and we saw the Marshall 1 time...because we called about slow play. I don’t know who is running this place now but they need to start having a Marshall on the course more regularly, this was crazy.
Sorry you had a bad experience Whatthecob. We are currently hiring more Marshall’s to help with pace of play and you should never have to wait for range balls either. If someone didn’t create a virus that caused factories to shut down like those that produce range balls, we could have eliminated your wait!
It was fine
The fairways were in good shape, but everything else was pretty rough. The greens weren’t good. One of the biggest frustrations was the lack of yardage markers. They had some sprinklers marked, but those weren’t very easy to find.
Sorry you felt the conditions were poor after one of the worst winter storms in Texas history. We have been focused on helping the course recover and we have plans to mark the course in the near future.
Always a good choice
You can’t go wrong with playing Shadow. The course is in better shape than most right now, and they’ve got the best beer selection

Best value in Austin right now
Shadowglen is simply the best public golf course facility in the Austin area right now. Worth $50 easily, a great deal when you can get it for less.

Haven’t played here in awhile
We haven’t played here in a pretty long time but everything has gone up hill! They just had some clubhouse renovations and the course is in great shape for this time of year! Really excited to see how it is in the coming months. The one thing I’ve always heard about shadowglen is that they have excellent beverage cart service but we didn’t see her until we were on 18 today around 12:45 so be sure to stop at the turn just in case. Other than that we had a great time and will be adding it to our regular courses!

We apologize that you had to wait so long for beverage cart service; normally on weekends we have two beverage carts but unfortunately yesterday we were down to just one. Fascinating design lovely condition
We had a lovely time at ShadowGlen. Pace was a bit slow to start but then smoothed out, we never felt rushed at any point and all of the other golfers were friendly and we have a good impression of this place. Course was fantastic, it was great to see such lush green fairways, tee blocks in good shape. Play off 3.4, found it rather challenging but plenty of scoring opportunities. Rather hilly, especially on back 9 so can be a slog to walk. The paths and buggy tracks were in better shape than other courses we have played. Staff were friendly and helpful nothing too much trouble for them

Spark Golf Wed night league
Played on Wednesday night for the Spark Golf League. We were double stacked on 5 tees instead of spread out over the 9 holes which made for an incredibly slow play time we played the last 2 holes pretty much in the dark. Checking in was quick but it took a while to get a beer at the bar. Course played really nice fairways and tee boxes were very nice. Cart girls came around and were friendly and got us cold drinks and chit chatted while we were waiting (that was definitely a plus). By the time we finished 2.5 hours later they had closed up the bar inside and refused to serve us which was a little upsetting as all the other groups that had finished had drinks and were able to stay and drink while we had to leave. Plus for the course, negative for the spacing of play, plus for the cart girls, negative for the girl/bar inside.
We appreciate you coming out and participating in the new Spark league! We apologize for the pairings which are set by Spark golf. I will communicate with them to get them spread out more in the future. Unfortunately we do not serve alcohol after sunset for liability reasons but we will have a beverage cart available during league play.

Thank you for your review. We realize the greens are not in the best shape right now and we appreciate you coming out. Unfortunately we've had some cooler nights in past few weeks that prevent the Bermuda from growing at all, but we expect major improvements in the next few weeks
