Course Highlights
Built from an old brickyard quarry, this course delivers a uniquely challenging layout with dramatic elevation changes found nowhere else in the DFW area. Greens and fairways consistently hold up well throughout the seasons, and the welcoming staff make every visit feel personal.

Some argue that the tricked-up golf course has no place in today’s game, but they might change their mind after visiting the eclectic Old Brickyard. As the name implies, the course lays out in and around an old brickyard, featuring dramatic elevation changes, blind shots, and some unbelievable, almost impossible holes. This is one you’ll want to play just to say you’ve seen it.

The opening holes are pretty basic as you traverse northward before turning into the meat of the course, where the dramatic elevation changes start wreaking havoc on your club selection. After about the third or fourth hole, every hole seems to have some unique feature.

The Old Brickyard Lake comes into play on holes 9-11, some of the most difficult holes you’ll find anywhere. After you limp homeward suffering near-disasters on the tricky par 3 No. 8, which plays over water and seems to drop about 5 stories, and the demented 9th hole, which features a funky tee shot and challenging approach over water to a difficult green, No. 10 is not a welcome sight. Hole 10 plays from an elevated tee box, with water along the right. Water comes into play on the next two shots as well, since it cuts across the dogleg-right fairway. If you’re struggling, this is a double-digit hole for sure.

There’s no real break after No. 10, either. The 13th requires a precision short iron to a tiered green. More surprises await as you finish the round, so be prepared. The yard is a fun day of golf.

Getting there : Take I-45 south from Dallas to Ferris, then exit 267 and continue down the access road to the entrance on the right.

Horrible greens

I just wish I hadn’t spent $228 to take my family from out of town to a course where the greens were better for grazing goats.

Challenging course

Old Brickyard’s layout is a nice challenge for an average golfer. A few blind shots and some elevated tee boxes on par 3s. Greens were in decent shape for the most part. Food at the clubhouse was similar to that of a convenience store. Hot dogs weren’t ready so we had to microwave some burgers that were pre packaged (made our stomachs hurt). If all you care about is playing a challenging course for a good value, this is a good option.

Skip this place

This place is a joke. Staff acts put out you are there. Carts suck. The tee boxes are almost as bad as the greens. The range was below average. The layout was decent but everything else is super rough

Finished in 3 hours

Tee’d off early as a twosome 2 other twosomes behind us. Everyone played fast and finished in 3 hours. Very windy on Sunday which made it more challenging.

Great day

They are always super nice, the course generally isn’t, but it is fun as heck and has some very cool holes… Fun place to try to and shoot a good score, It literally has probably six of the coolest holes and all of Dallas scattered throughout that course, and along the water

Hard to say how it will be in a couple months as we are just now coming out of dormancy. Poa is starting to get bad on greens.

Had to quit after 9

Would be a sweet course if it was well maintained and pace of play was controlled. Had to quit after front 9 took 2.5 hours and hole 10 had 2 groups waiting.

Fool me once...

Hadn't been here for years because the course conditions were never great. Thought after 8 years it would be different, but it wasn't. Always very dry which makes the undulating fairways almost impossible to stick. Yes, courses should be challenging, but also fair. Fairways not in good shape either. Others may dispute my assessment, but you go try it out!

Great home course

My wife and I have played Brickyard many times, this is our home course. Throughout the spring, summer, and fall this course remains in great shape. Its not what I would call a beginners tract and remains challenging even for the most advanced players. Very nice and helpful staff who all remember our faces everytime we play. Hats off to the Old Brickyard, and staff, we look forward to each visit. Best in Ellis County and surrounding area!

A fun challenge

Overall a nice and fun course. Weather it was the challenge in play or the go cart cart path with many curves and drop downs that had you yelling woohoo... it was truly an enjoyable day of golf. A lot of friendly people out playing and accommodating to other speed of play. Fast greens even after a rain Strom the night before.. this PGA tournament class course is definitely recommended..
