About
Thorntree opened in 1984, and while it has changed ownership multiple times over the years,it remains one of the toughest courses in the DFW area. The course features six lakes and three spring-fed creeks that spice up the layout, as well as immaculate fairways and challenging bent-grass greens.
On the front, No. 5 stands out as one of the most difficult holes – a 400 yard-plus par 4 that runs through a chute of trees and doglegs right into a green sided by a pond.
The back is a bit more difficult, which you’ll realize quickly due to the 666-yard double dogleg No. 10. The next hole is only a 382- yard par 4, but the approach is dicey into the shallow green. No. 13 is another nice hole–only 338 yards with another challenging approach into a green that’s guarded by an old thorn tree.
Getting there : From I-35 south, take the Wintergreen Road exit and turn right. Drive 4 miles to the course, and the entrance is on the right side.

Good greens but no grass in fairways
I have played here many times but this is the first time I experienced no grass in the fairways. You can be in the middle of the fairways, but no grass. I realize that it is early spring but other courses in the area have grass. Not sure what is going on. Hopefully they will put the needed water to get some grass growing.
Dying of thirst
Greens were okay, tee boxes rock hard (some grass but well outside the markers for white tees, noted the broken tees were up to 4 feet behind the markers), and fairways were “tight lies” everywhere. Tees had not been cleaned in some time (yes, personal peeve with tee litter everywhere), no cart service on a 90 degree day. Dropped the driver down to 9 degrees and ball would roll a loooong way. Not what I usually see here, so was not thrilled.

Great Course, Fairways are rough
I really like this course, and I believe it to be worth the drive from Southlake. The grass in the fairways is just so thin. I guess when it goes dormant, it is like playing off hardpan. The greens and layout are worth the fairway challenges.
Goat ranch
Saw the pictures on GolfNow couple from Google. Read most of the reviews before I booked this round showed up for a 752 teetime
Waited almost 10 minutes every hole as a threesome of absolute sticks course was an absolute goat ranch I’m sure this place is nice when the grass is green, but dang it was tan and muddy out there.
2 Face Golf Course!! 🤣 which one are you going to see?
This Golf course will challenge you every aspect from your game. The font nine in my opinion starts off easy but once we made the turn is when you had to put your thinking cap on. A lot of the holes require a precise yardage and angle to have a good look or easier shot to the greens. If you are a fan of slope this course will test your skill. The greens were great and have a lot of slope to them. Didn’t really have a straight putt all day. This golf course great test from the blue tees and unless you know this course and where to miss you don’t need to hit from the tips. Overall this course will test your patience and also your course management skills. Miss it on the the wrong side of the pins and you will pay for it. Bring your A game with teeing it up here. Will return
Nice Course......dishonest employees
Pros.....really nice course layout. Pace of play was ok and price was very reasonable as a weekday "Hot Deal"
Cons.....left my range finder on cart at end of round but it was not turned in by cart return staff. Now the overall price is not too reasonable withbadding in yhe replacement cost. No water privided on the course so be sure to bring some. And fairway bunkers have no sand and are unplayable.
