Old Brickyard Golf Course
About
Some argue that the tricked-up golf course has no place in today’s game, but they might change their mind after visiting the eclectic Old Brickyard. As the name implies, the course lays out in and around an old brickyard, featuring dramatic elevation changes, blind shots, and some unbelievable, almost impossible holes. This is one you’ll want to play just to say you’ve seen it.
The opening holes are pretty basic as you traverse northward before turning into the meat of the course, where the dramatic elevation changes start wreaking havoc on your club selection. After about the third or fourth hole, every hole seems to have some unique feature.
The Old Brickyard Lake comes into play on holes 9-11, some of the most difficult holes you’ll find anywhere. After you limp homeward suffering near-disasters on the tricky par 3 No. 8, which plays over water and seems to drop about 5 stories, and the demented 9th hole, which features a funky tee shot and challenging approach over water to a difficult green, No. 10 is not a welcome sight. Hole 10 plays from an elevated tee box, with water along the right. Water comes into play on the next two shots as well, since it cuts across the dogleg-right fairway. If you’re struggling, this is a double-digit hole for sure.
There’s no real break after No. 10, either. The 13th requires a precision short iron to a tiered green. More surprises await as you finish the round, so be prepared. The yard is a fun day of golf.
Getting there : Take I-45 south from Dallas to Ferris, then exit 267 and continue down the access road to the entrance on the right.

Very, Very Challenging Hole Photo submitted by fryersroost on 05/08/2013
VALUE............
Ive been out here about six times.... Played for 11 bucks. Good greens, good fairways. Very unique layout. Challenging par threes, ten is one of the hardest par fives you will ever see. This is a tremendous value. Some of the cart paths are like roller coasters.....
The drive south!
In the past, this course has always been a great value even considering the drive. But the last two visits have been brutally slow... Don't know if we will go back.
Best bang for your buck in the metro-plex
New ownership has really turned this place around. While I was the 19th hole drinking a beer and having a one of the better barbecue sandwiches I've had in recent memory I overheard a couple of people saying the course had a change in ownership over winter and the GM that has been there for several years was now the owner as well.
Greens were soft and smooth. Fairways were green and just starting to fill in nicely. I bet they will be great in a couple of weeks with the weather getting warmer everyday. They have re-open the restaurant on the weekends and had just finished remodeling the bathrooms on the course and in the clubhouse. Best value around in my opinion. This course is definitely on the up swing and I will be back. I have to get revenge on #10. That hole is a killer and one of the best par 5's I have played....
Very Enjoyable course to Play
Would really like to see better directions on the course for each hole. One needs a guide if you haven't played this course before. Love the rolling terrain, makes for challenging golf. I recommend playing the blue tees.
hard for beginners to follow course
holes not marked clearly hole directions spray painted on cart path LOTS of poison ivy very hilly terrain greens were in great shape cost a little high for course
great course for the money
I enjoyed my round staff was friendly and course in good shape.
nicely maintained
nice course challenging and well maintained fast pace course
When the course is green, it would be great!
The course is a lot of fun, but they could do a better job maintaining the course, still fun!!!
Fairways dormant
Fairways dormant ball will roll, greens need alot of attention ( looks like a hail storm came thru ) fairway divits not being tended too. Grass growing out of them. Play was slow but to be expected on a sunday. Bunkers unplayable with water in most.
Very dissappointed from the last few times played.
Upon arriving, there was no carts available. There were a couple of 6 man groups on the course and they wanted to go around again. The course itself was soggy in some spots and, the greens needed over seeding. Since they have a few blind spots on the front nine, there should be some way to alert other golfers that the way is not clear. Our group was hit into three different times due to slow play ahead.
Interesting layout for great price
The course has terrific hole to start backside on #10. Very challenging par 3 #8 from back tee.
A must play, shotmakers and position players heaven
First, apologies to the course for checking "needs attention" but I had to pick something, and it's winter; course was in good shape for the season. The changes in elevation are wonderful, some of the greens are small, and some fairways are narrow, with #9 threading a needle to get into position. We played the front twice (day after Turkey day was busy) from blues and golds, but did play #10 as a bonus (suggested by the staff at no charge, when did that last happen to you?). You step on the tee and understand why it is the signature hole. Course is not particularly long, and if you spray your drives you will spend much of the day in the rough (and it is actual rough). Our best of the day rolled 275 down the middle however, so bring the big dog along. Bring all your wedges as well, greens have tiers and well placed (and sometimes a bit hidden) traps. I can't wait to play here again (and see what the back has in store). I will, however; spend some time on the practice green before going out. Or maybe I'll just mount a magazine rack on the cart so I can read something.......... I also plan another review in the spring so I can rate conditions more fairly. The rating folks need to to have a "seasonally adjusted" scale.
Great Value! Old course!
Probably one of the cheaper courses in Dallas! #10 is one of the crazier holes around. Overall, the course is fine but needs attention! But as it states in the name, it was an old brickyard. Feels that way!
Go with a guide
I would have enjoyed the course had I had a map. Most courses that I played either have a map on the score card or on the marker at the tee.
