Old Brickyard Golf Course
About
Some argue that the tricked-up golf course has no place in today’s game, but they might change their mind after visiting the eclectic Old Brickyard. As the name implies, the course lays out in and around an old brickyard, featuring dramatic elevation changes, blind shots, and some unbelievable, almost impossible holes. This is one you’ll want to play just to say you’ve seen it.
The opening holes are pretty basic as you traverse northward before turning into the meat of the course, where the dramatic elevation changes start wreaking havoc on your club selection. After about the third or fourth hole, every hole seems to have some unique feature.
The Old Brickyard Lake comes into play on holes 9-11, some of the most difficult holes you’ll find anywhere. After you limp homeward suffering near-disasters on the tricky par 3 No. 8, which plays over water and seems to drop about 5 stories, and the demented 9th hole, which features a funky tee shot and challenging approach over water to a difficult green, No. 10 is not a welcome sight. Hole 10 plays from an elevated tee box, with water along the right. Water comes into play on the next two shots as well, since it cuts across the dogleg-right fairway. If you’re struggling, this is a double-digit hole for sure.
There’s no real break after No. 10, either. The 13th requires a precision short iron to a tiered green. More surprises await as you finish the round, so be prepared. The yard is a fun day of golf.
Getting there : Take I-45 south from Dallas to Ferris, then exit 267 and continue down the access road to the entrance on the right.

Very, Very Challenging Hole Photo submitted by fryersroost on 05/08/2013
Love the course and all the hills. Beautiful greesns!
Very friendly staff and nice course. I would play play here again.
hide and seek
Too many blind shots, can not see where the fairway is or the green on many holes and most of yardage markers are missing or non exixitent, other than that course is not difficult. As far as staff club pro is very friendly but man who worked afternoon was unfiriendly and had an attitude becasue I made him get up and walk into reswtauarant area to let me know it was closed at noon, no reason tho have a restaurant and it not be open, I think it was closed becasue he was too lazy to prepare anything for you to eat becasue club pro Randy fixed food when he was there. 09/03/2013
Great elevations for Dallas area course.
The course has a very lot of unique hole designs and elevation.
Number ten has water the complete way around the par five . Fun course to play. It would be nice if they had a few more yardage markers to help orient you to shot length needed and hazards to avoid.
undulating fairways-love it!
Love the the layout, great value for the the course.
Nice track, could use some work.
First time to play. The course is not very long from the back tees, but some difficult holes if you have never played there before. There are some blind shots and you need to know where to place the shot. Rollings hills. Interesting course. Greens were super nice. Fairways were pretty good. Sand traps were horrendous, actually I would not even call them sand traps. Great value, so I would play there again.
Challenging course but lacking amenities.
Clubhouse average. Range poor quality especially given completely muddy practice balls. Golf cart backfired constantly and was very temperamental. Course nice though. Many very challenging holes especially 9 & 10. No cartgirl. Overall average rating. Probably won't return.
Fun country course
This course was much different than anything I have been on in Texas .With the rolling hills and blind shots it was pretty tricky .Its a fun country course with a tough section through the middle of the round. I think I will enjoy it more the second time around. Greens were recently aerated and slow so it was difficult to get the speed down.
Great change of terrain for north Texas course
Not your average DFW golf course. Get a nice change for a fair price. Played early morning and a lot of other golfers playing the white tees, only 4600 yards, so be expected to move quick.
Great course conditions, superb greens
The greens at Old Brick Yard are outstanding. The most plush greens I have played on this year, and I have played several courses around the metroplex. With all the rain, you would expect the fairways and tee boxes to be in good condition, and they were. But the greens were outstanding.
Old Brickyard Is a Challenge - Great Piece Of Land
While #1 is a nice gentle welcoming handshake, #2 is an attention getter. #1 handicap hole very early in the round - even tougher if the wind is from the north. Watch out for the pond on the right.
The most interesting holes start at #5 - a long par 5 with a deep gulch in front of the green.
The holes around the old quarry are all interesting - #8 over the water, #9 through the narrow shoot - takes some precise shot-making. Stay out of the rough on the left.
#10 is just a great par 5 - water in play on the drive, over the water on the 2nd shot, long 3rd into the green over water - good luck on this hole. One of the best par 5's in Texas.
#11 is a fun hole - dogleg left with the water in play on the drive.
I enjoyed my day here - lot's of variety with holes playing in many directions. Par 3's all take a different club.
great course
Staff is great. Course in good shape. The( people) playing not replacing divots and marks on green hurt the course.
Walked course hardest I have walked . elevation change of 65 ft -85 ft each hole. You have to know course or you will be loosing lots of balls fairways tight green fun to putt in you can read. Best place around for money
Hill Country Golf in the D?
Overall: Challenging hill country-ish course only 20 minutes south of downtown Dallas - green fees w cart are best value in Dallas area
Fast play: Played a morning weekday twosome and, by noon, I think we were the only ones left on the course. Finished in less than 3.5hrs
Course: Tees, fairways and greens in great shape thanks to the extra rain we have received this year. The rough is manicured well, but there is not much of it before the OB - Several elevated tees offer 30 mile views.
Challenges: Holes 10, 8, 2 are the toughest - Several blind tee shots....water comes into play on a couple of holes - helps to know this course due to the grass bunkers and washout areas that can take a fairway drive and run it OB quickly (can't see them on the GPS)
Other: Golfer etiquette is lacking a bit as you will find more fairway divots, ball marks and loose trash than normal. Clubhouse not for lingering and food and beer selection minimal, but the course and pace of play MORE than makes up for any negatives.
Great value for a hill country track so close to home. Would be at least 2X more if it were any closer.
Frustratingly difficult
This course is not for anybody that has any type of hook or slice, and even a fade or a draw can mean a lost ball. This course was built on the remains of an old brick yard and quarry and let me tell you a ride up and down these cart paths is as exciting as any roller coaster at Six Flags. If you like a Challenging course and you don't get nauseous easily then this might be the course for you, but for an average to beginner this course is pure evil.
Not fun - too many blind shots and not worth the drive.
Waste of time and money - rude staff - course conditions weren't good and its slow
challenging
challenging coarse need to keep drinking water on coarse filled up
GREEN'S ARE IN GOOD SHAPE!
NICE COURSE - FAIRWAYS ARE IN GREAT SHAPE AND GREEN ARE IN GOOD SHAPE. LAYOUT IS FUN - SEVERAL HOLES THAT HAVE SIGNIFICANT ELEVATION CHANGES.
Better be ready to drive to get there and drive better once you are there...
This course is challenging with many tight tee shots and number 10 is worth taking a friend just to watch them come apart. The greens are the best I have ever seen them at Brickyard and you can play very aggressive at the hole. For the money, despite the drive, it is a great spot.
It wae tough but interesting.
It was far from Dallas but valuable to drive more than 30 min.
because the course was very exciting unlikely in Dallas area.
I'll visit this course again with my friend in the near future.
Lots of room for error
Lots of places to lose balls! But a very interesting layout and some challenging and memorable tee shot and approaches. Greens were in great shape and sneaky fast. The course is showing some need for upkeep as evidenced by their sign on the highway; although repairs are mainly cosmetic. Holes 5 & 16 are strange to get to (5 is marked & 16 should be). Price was right, and pace of play was phenomenal.
