El Rio Golf Course in Fort Myers is a player-friendly layout that will appeal to players of all skill levels. It's an ideal course for beginners who are looking to get in some practice on a full-length course. The layout consists of mostly par 3s and most of the holes are on the shorter side. Course conditions
The course conditions were so bad that I didn’t even pull out my putter on most holes and was using one club pretty much the entire time
Under Construction
Unfortunately, things haven’t been easy for a few golf courses in the Fort Myers area. Ol Rio is one of them. Tee boxes were moved up, in some cases, mere feet away from the greens. One golfer we met suggested a windmill and an open mouthed clown around some holes.

They’re making an effort
They’ve started redoing the tee boxes which is a big start but I enjoy this course a lot
Hot day. Had to limit to 9 holes.
Tees are under construction. My partner was suffering from heat exhaustion so we only played 9 holes. Staff is nice and friendly. Always enjoy playing here.

Poor course conditions
Every Green was riveted with bird and mole cricket damage. Fairways OK. Fairly well drained because it was raining hard the week before. Not bad. Teebox is nonexistent. Dirt mostly. No excuse for any of this. Maintain it or sell it guys. Two years ago this course was a pleasure to play. Staff remains friendly. Value for the money average.

Played Tuesday, course had no restrictions, yet the conditions were unplayable!! The staff and owners have no regard or care about the course condition!! Fairways were mud pits, we lost two balls because they plugged in the fairway!!
Don’t even think about wasting your money on this place!!!

Terrible condition
Might be the worst conditions I’ve ever seen on any course. Every tee box is just sand. Fairways are hardly grass and greens will bounce in any direction.

Course condition.
Recent rains have improved most of the course conditions. Tee boxes are not good. All sand and very little grass. Greens are recently aerated but ok overall. I had the course to myself from 11:15am to 2:00pm. Very little play this time of year. Fortunately it was overcast and slightly windy so I didn’t roast under the sun. Good value as I play here several times a year.
Mud Pit
Played Tuesday, after rain on Monday.
Checked in to ask about conditions before play. Staff said no restrictions, so we showed up. The course was virtually under water ponding in fairways, water in bunkers!
A quagmire!
We will never play there again!!

Great experience
Very friendly staff and friendly environment out on the course

Owners of this course are not improving conditions at all. The place is a disaster, worst playing conditions I’ve ever seen!! No grass on fairways, greens are unputtable, tee boxes are sand!!

The poorest conditions I've seen
I occasionally play at El Rio, however, the golf course is currently in its poorest condition. It should be closed until the tee boxes and fairways grow grass.

A crow went into my golf cart and stole a slim jim
A crow went into my golf cart and stole a slim jim while I was putting. On the next hole, the crow returned and tried to fly away with another.
Goat Trail
This course should be closed!! No grass on fairways, greens are dirt, and tee boxes are sand, so a teed ball will not standup!!
Driving range parallels the 10th hole so people playing number 10 are at risk of getting hit from balls Boeing struck on the driving range!!

Very very poor experience
We showed up to tee boxes made of sand, greens were lacking grass in general, fairways were like rough. The maintenance crew actually ran a mower over not one but two of our balls. We played three holes in thirty minutes and went to the clubhouse to ask for a refund. They refused and did not seem to care the course was in terrible condition. I’ve never seen a worse course.
