Country Club of Silver Springs Shores
About
Opened in 1969, the Country Club at Silver Springs Shores has been host to a variety of mini-tour and U.S. Open Section qualifying events. It is known for having some of the fastest and most severe greens in the area. Desmond Muirhead, a longtime associate of Jack Nicklaus, designed the golf course, giving it a different character on the front and back nines. The first half of the golf course is a traditional parkland layout that mixes native trees and wide-open meadows. The back nine is a true Florida-style golf course with water coming into play on six holes. Country Club at Silver Springs Shores finishes with one of its toughest water holes, a par 5 starts with an intimidating tee shot past a massive lake that wraps around the landing area. Many locals consider Silver Springs Shores to be one of the best public golf courses in the Ocala area.

Pleasant surprise.
I live about 12 miles from this course and somehow didn’t know it was here - I found it on GolfNow and boy am so glad I did. It’s a fun course - long and we’ll laid out. Challenging without being demoralizing. Fairways were mostly good, greens were surprisingly nice for this time of year, and the pace of play was fine, especially in light of the short interval between tee times. Got backed up for a few minutes once or twice on tough holes but it was a beautiful day and there was plenty of shade to be found so it was no big deal. Staff was exceptionally friendly, cart girl was great, and the prices of everything from the round itself to a beer and hot dog was surprisingly low - a welcome surprise in these trying times. Might be the best hot dog I’ve had in years too lol.
I’ll definitely be back. Probably regularly. Go.
Great value
Course was in good condition. Greens ran very smooth. Not bumpy at all. However, they were a little bit shaggy wish they were a little faster. Some attention needs to be made with the bunkers standing water, and some of the bunkers. Many of them are little thin on sand. Aside from that it’s always a fun challenging round of golf there.
Hidden & Forgotten
Obviously there is not enough local support to maintain this beautiful country club. It could/should be brought back to the majestic it once was.
Tough Course
Really enjoyed this course -- greens in great shape, layout very nice. Will play again before leaving Florida!
Second time around...
Brought two of my high school buddies who live in the Villages. They were impressed with the course layout and the greens. Bev cart girl(Felicity) was a treat. Great service in the lounge after golf. Zoey was great. Great value. Worth the drive. Will play again. Starter and pro shop staff friendly.
Great round and great conditions!!
An amazing opportunity to enjoy a beautiful course. It was evident from the very first tee that a great deal of effort Has gone into maintenance and care of this course. The greens were immaculate. The Fairways were much improved. The tea boxes were fantastic. All I can say is take the short drive over to Silver Spring shore and see for yourself. It’s well worth the trip and worth much more than your charge to play there.
Poor Pro shop and facilities
The course itself was ok. The fairway grass was a bit sparse in places but generally playable, and the greens were in good shape. The issues were not with the course. There were three of us and they added a single, which we had no problem with. But, the pro shop guy insisted that the single had to ride with one of us. I argued a bit to no avail, but I was not happy. Also, the young guy they added hit from the back tees and we are all seniors, so we hit from the silver tees, which caused us to have an unusally long round - close to five hours. We're not good, but we're usually pretty fast. I can't imagine that it was fun for the single either. Also, on the turn, I went in to use the facilities. I went into the locker room to find that the men's restroom had four urinals and four toilets - AND NO PARTITIONS. Yes, a row of open toilets. I found another restroom on the other side of the building -PARTITIONS BUT NO TOILET PAPER. I'm sure they'll say that they are renovating, but if they are, from the looks of it, they're taking their time.
Good value-very slow
We played on a Friday mid-day in early March and found out it is one of their busiest times. They were about 15 minutes behind schedule getting us off the tee. They were short of carts and we had to wait till for one to come in just before our tee time. There was not a starter so we were kind of on our own to figure out the order at the 1st tee. Painfully slow play for the front nine. Opened up on the back but overall close to 5 hours. Very nice layout and the greens were in great condition. The fairways and several of the tee boxes were pretty rough...see pics. A nice layout, especially liked the back nine. Number 18 is an interesting par 5 to finish. Proshop and lounge staff were friendly...philly cheese steak sandwich was good. Given the green fee pricing, it is a very good value.
Always a great challenge
Course is in very good condition. Greens were great, however a tad slower than previous times played. Love the challenge just wish more attention was directed to bunkers cart paths and bathroom facilities out on course. Bathrooms are deplorable. Definitely will be back
Fun round
Great course. Like many Florida courses the fairways are quite thin. However, when you get to the greens, they are like a plush carpet! I would like to be faster but they roll true just a bit slower! Go have some fun. Good value
Disappointed!
The name of the course sounded impressive. Maybe in it's day the course matched the name. Worse bunkers I've seen in Florida. Very little sand, lots of weeds and no rakes. Surprising the greens were very good. No food or beverage in the large clubhouse. No on course beverage cart. Course layout was good. Tees a little sparse.
Judge1951
Great layout, greens dense and average speed, traps maintain well. Fairways sparse. 19 hole excellent. Food and drinks very reasonable
Slow pace of play
Their tee-times are spaced 6 minutes apart. We had to wait 45 minutes to tee-off because of this. Way overbooked. They need to change to 10 minutes intervals. Once we got to tee-off we waited for every shot. We were a foursome so it’s not like we were extra fast. Will return once the snowbirds leave but will never play in season again. They also left groups start on 10 so as they finished that 9, they had to be placed between groups already waiting to start play. This is no way to run a course. For the few extra dollars you make with 6 minute spacing, you upset every golfer.
greens
The tees, fairways and greens are very nice. The greens are some of the most challenging I've played since golf trips to Southern Pines,North Carolina.
