Rating 74.1

Opened in 1969, the Country Club at Silver Springs Shores has been host to a variety of mini-tour and U.S. Open Section qualifying events. It is known for having some of the fastest and most severe greens in the area. Desmond Muirhead, a longtime associate of Jack Nicklaus, designed the golf course, giving it a different character on the front and back nines. The first half of the golf course is a traditional parkland layout that mixes native trees and wide-open meadows. The back nine is a true Florida-style golf course with water coming into play on six holes. Country Club at Silver Springs Shores finishes with one of its toughest water holes, a par 5 starts with an intimidating tee shot past a massive lake that wraps around the landing area. Many locals consider Silver Springs Shores to be one of the best public golf courses in the Ocala area.

Greens rolled great

Cart paths are really rough, as well as some of the Tee Boxes and some areas of the Fairways, but the Greens were worth the price.

Silver Spring Country Club

I have played this course for many years. It use to be one of the top golf courses in the area. It still has good greens but unfortunately the management refuses to put money back into the course. The cart patches are terrible. The hand trails going us to the pro shop are all loss and wobbly. The rest rooms between holes 14 and 15 are total disaster. The fairways have many bare spots. The course still has a great layout but needs a lot of TLC.

Sad state

Great layout dynamite greens. That’s where it ends. No grass in the fairways bathrooms are so bad I’d rather Soil myself then use their bathrooms. Nobody seems to care this course with good bones Is withering away to nothing

Fairway and greens rough shape

I have played this course multiple times a few years ago and it seemed like it was in much better shape, the fairways and greens are in very rough shape with hard pan bare spots everywhere. Rough to play…

Fun Round

The greens are excellent condition, slower then normal but that was due to it raining while we played, when the greens are dry and in this condition they are a serious challenge and I love it when it's like that.

The fairways are just reasonable rate Florida condition.

Never less we a had a fun round

Pin placements****

This is the second time I have played the is course in a month and both times the Pin placements are absolutely brutal and it boggles me because of how large the greens are, very frustrating to come out and have a chance to score good to be left with must makes with 9 foot sliders if you don’t on most of the holes. Golf is already hard enough, another thing would be how long this course plays even from the whites, I normally play from the whites for most courses and I’ve never seen a 555 yard par 5 from the whites anywhere else, we are not pros out here.

Best $40 value in the area!

Greens are in GREAT shape! Tee boxes were good and you could find grass to hit off in the fairways. The bunkers were well groomed and all had new sand, I tried many! And were else can you get an ice cold draft beer for $2.50

DO NOT PLAY THIS COURSE!

Pace of play 5 1/2 hours; fairways terrible, sadly, this has become a real dog track!

But the kicker was a restroom with trash overflowing and a toilet and toilet seat fairly covered with FECES (see below) -- cancelled a future reservation due to DISGUSTING conditions!

DO NOT PLAY HERE UNLESS YOU LIKE THESE CONDITIONS . . .

Utterly Discussing

The facilities, restrooms, on the course are vile and certainly a health risk, if not illegal. Run down, over- crowded, and extremely slow play. 4.5 hours for 18 holes and no course ranger. The course restrooms need to be quarantined and health department notified. For GolfNow to advertise this course, after this review, without follow-up, would make you complicit.

Getting better

The greens have come back beautifully, tee boxes are better, fairways are improving but could still use some help. This is one of the nicest layouts in the area. A challenge but fair. Back nine is beautiful.

Terrible condition

The course looks nothing like the picture on Golf Now. It almost feels like a bait-and-switch situation. Definitely not worth the money; in fact, not worth the time it takes to get around on this goat pasture.
