Country Club of Silver Springs Shores
About
Opened in 1969, the Country Club at Silver Springs Shores has been host to a variety of mini-tour and U.S. Open Section qualifying events. It is known for having some of the fastest and most severe greens in the area. Desmond Muirhead, a longtime associate of Jack Nicklaus, designed the golf course, giving it a different character on the front and back nines. The first half of the golf course is a traditional parkland layout that mixes native trees and wide-open meadows. The back nine is a true Florida-style golf course with water coming into play on six holes. Country Club at Silver Springs Shores finishes with one of its toughest water holes, a par 5 starts with an intimidating tee shot past a massive lake that wraps around the landing area. Many locals consider Silver Springs Shores to be one of the best public golf courses in the Ocala area.

Course layout
This is an interesting layout with challenges on each hole. The rough was a little long in places, but overall in good shape. Saw quite bit of wildlife while playing. Great day.
Unfortunate Changes
I've played Country Club at Silver Springs Shores for many years. However, this is probably the last time I will play this course. The course is in very bad condition and its clear that its being allowed to decline. I can't recommend this course any longer.
Formerly Loved It
I have played this course at least 30 times over the last couple of years even though it is a 40 minute drive -- I love the layout and the greens are always good.
We arrived at 9:20 for our 10am tee time and the 3 of us hit some range balls and then some putts. At the 1st tee we were told there were still three groups ahead of us, plus a single who the starter said insisted he play alone. It's a Sunday morning with another twosome ahead of us and the starter let a single dictate he would play alone! NEVER seen anything like it! A competent starter ALWAYS pairs up a single on a busy day... but not here.
So after warming up we had to wait over a half hour to tee off. I was shocked at how the fairways had deteriorated. Despite the rains, there were wide, course brown weeds covering large portions of many fairways. The cart paths, always rough, were a joke and now, even the tee boxes were terrible. The only saving grace were the greens, but that was not enough to overcome everything else. Oh, and the bathrooms were filled with trash and toilets overflowing with urine and feces; couldn't even go inside. Very sad what has become of what is a great layout that I will NOT be coming back to.
Value for the money
The course was in great shape especially for this time of year in Florida. The course is a perfect blend of challenges and ease
The golf path is in need of repairs but overall will go again
Great value? Beautiful greens
Went on a Friday Eve. Followed a twosome. Finished 18 in three hours. Course was well kept. Greens were gorgeous. Tee boxes great. Majority of fairways great as well. Cart path was rough- dirt, broken concrete etc. Gas carts, very basic, no gps, no speaker. However, each hole clearly marked w yardages and brief layout. Booklet at the pro shop details every hole and I would recommend grabbing this if you’ve never played here before. It plays out each hole and strategy.
No usable restrooms on the course. Clubhouse restaurant and bar were busy. Locker rooms good. Pro shop good. Range available. Two putting greens. Loved the challenges along the course. Had a great round.
Parking lot isn’t nice. Don’t go around the bag drop. The loop was flooded with muddy water. Outside looks scary but the course itself if very nice. Would recommend.
Warning!
So disappointing! I played and loved this course for years but man it's awful now. Same beautiful layout but the course is not maintained at all. Warning! Don't waste your time or money.
Most Fairways shot
Greens were great, but the Fairways were toast (except a couple on the back). No rakes in the bunkers, but plenty of heavy sand. It was Memorial Day and there was no Ranger. Seems every Bubba that wanted to try golf showed up. Couldn't finish, only got 12 holes. Tired of waiting on non-golfers that wouldn't get out of the way, even when it was explained nicely. Not going back until I read that the fairways and tee boxes are back in shape.
Great Value for the Price
Everything was good, I just wish they would stop spacing tee times 6 minutes apart. It's not enough time to play. Unless you go out before 8:00am, prepare for a longer day due to 6 minute tee intervals.
sad to see the decline
I have played this course probably 30 times over the last 10 years. It is sad to see the slow but continued decline to the tee boxes and the fairways. In some spots you have to go 5 to 10 yards to find a playable lie. I will say that they continue to do an excellent job in maintaining quality greens that role true and fast. It is just a pity that the rest of the course is neglected. Were it not for the greens I would not return.
Interesting course
Greens were good but fairways only average, most probably due to weather conditions.
Never again
Showed up for 726 teetime and they had a shotgun tournament starting at 8 AM. No golf for me today. Customer service was horrible and they were not bothered by telling me to leave.
Drought affected
Greens were great
Fairways were rough, little grass to be found
