Country Club of Silver Springs Shores
About
Opened in 1969, the Country Club at Silver Springs Shores has been host to a variety of mini-tour and U.S. Open Section qualifying events. It is known for having some of the fastest and most severe greens in the area. Desmond Muirhead, a longtime associate of Jack Nicklaus, designed the golf course, giving it a different character on the front and back nines. The first half of the golf course is a traditional parkland layout that mixes native trees and wide-open meadows. The back nine is a true Florida-style golf course with water coming into play on six holes. Country Club at Silver Springs Shores finishes with one of its toughest water holes, a par 5 starts with an intimidating tee shot past a massive lake that wraps around the landing area. Many locals consider Silver Springs Shores to be one of the best public golf courses in the Ocala area.

A walk in nature
This course has some sloped greens, quite fast and in good condition. Fairways are good. The cart paths are rough. The rough and sand traps are rough. We enjoy the ponds, gators, turkeys, etc. Quite a challenging course.
course is not bad
it was ok not the best of shape but a lot better than Lake Diamond at least they mow grass
No ailver lining
From the onset we should have known the experience was not going to be acceptable. There were no signs leading to the club and the GPS cut out on the Harmon as well as Google.
There was a dilapidated sign out front when we finally found the place.
The cart paths were rutted and in bad need of repair.
The rough was so high that finding balls were impossible.
The golf cart seats were mended with tape and ancient.
The greens were surprisingly well tended.
We quit after the 9 th hole. We even lost balls in the middle of the fairway.
The course was average but the cart path was torn up all along the course which made your ride quite a challenge. For a cheap round of golf it was OK but I wouldn't pay a lot to golf there.
Fun course
While the course is not in perfect condition (not many are) the greens were in great condition. It is a nice layout and friendly to golfers of all levels. I would play this course again and recommend it to everyone.
18th is an interesting and challenging final hole
Love this course! So much wild life we have seen over our visits. Friendly staff!
Great course on the springs, amazing value
One of my favorite courses in the area - well worth the 1 hour drive from Gainesville for me to play a great layout for only $19. About half the holes have water in play and it has some really nice risk/reward holes. Course is in good condition.
This course need fixing
Deplorable cart paths. Hard telling if your in the rough or on the fairway. This use to be the eye of Ocala for golf. Green fairways, brown rough and fairways we greatly outlined . Greens are still in great shape but rest of course has been let go and not taken care of. Hard to believe they have been charging the rates they have for the winter and nothing going back into course. Hard to believe it was the same course I played only a year ago.
Would play again
Played here when my friends' course was booked when we got there. Found on GolfNow. Wasn't overly impressed when we drove up, looked like area around parking lot and clubhouse could use some general sprucing up. Looked kind of drab.
Course was in pretty good shape considering lack of rain. Greens and fairways were green. Could use some trimming around rough just to look taken care of.
Only had a dog at restaurant, however buns were stale and server was not as friendly as it seemed it was an imposition to serve us.
Will go again.
This course is a old style course with a great layout.
This course was built in the late sixties and could use some work(new cart paths, new carts, etc) but it has beautiful features and is a great layout. People should definitely come play the course. Greens and fairways are in nice shape.
Nice Surprise
I played Silver Spring Shores about 7 years ago and my comment then was "what a nice layout, too bad it is in such poor condition". Well they certainly have turned that around. The greens were fine, the tees o.k and the fairways as good as can be expected with all the dry weather.
We arrive 30 minutes early, got out right away and had no one in front or pushing us. The course is pretty, lots of water and trees.
Give it a try.....we will certainly go back.
Looks abandoned
I remember going to that place a couple of years ago quite a bit and it was one of my favorite places to play. Now the place looks like a dump. Carts backfire. Cart paths full of potholes..tweeked my back on one of them..staff look depressed..food lounge was open 20 minutes late..landscape unkempt and disheveled. Place is way over priced. Not even worth 10 bucks for 18 holes. Place looks abandoned
Very nice course but watch out for the cart paths
First time playing this course. It was a very nice course layout with greens in good condition but the cart paths are broken in many areas. My wife even chose to walk most of the course to keep from getting a lower back injury. The carts should have been replaced several years ago and mostly from navigating the fractured cart paths. Our cart continuously backfired. I live out of state and may eventually come back but first look at the cart condition and the cart paths.
Somewhat Tight and challenging
Arrived the staff was very friendly this is a semi private course but needs updated Golf Carts only Knock.. This was the 2nd time playing will play again you can score on this course as long as you play from your ability tee box. The greens are in above average shape. I played this time in 30 MPH winds. The 3rd hole is a awesome hole take bogey and go away but i got got to par this twice with two great approach shots both times other than that would of had 5 and 6..
Great greens
These are the truest greens I have played on so far in Florida. Layout Is a fair test, for a mid handicap. Interesting layout with several options on how to play several holes. One of my favorite courses in this area.
Great Layout
The course has a great layout with some driveable par 4's and some challenging holes as well. Lots of water on the course that comes into play.
