Bay Point Resort - Nicklaus Course
About
Bay Point Golf Club's Nicklaus Course at Sheraton Bay Point Resort is the only Nicklaus Design course in Northwest Florida. The golf course was formerly Lagoon Legend, which had a reputation for being one of the Florida Panhandle's toughest layouts. In 2004, the golf course closed and underwent a major renovation by the Nicklaus Design team. It reopened a year later with rave reviews. The redesign included restructuring the tees, greens, and bunkers and also re-contouring the fairways. The scenic landscape of scrub oaks, towering pines, and saltwater marshes was carefully preserved though. The golf course maintained the challenging aspects of the original but infused a play-ability that makes it accessible to all skill levels. Also like the former course, the new Nicklaus design offers the same stunning views of St. Andrew's Bay. In the fall of 2018, the Nicklaus Course completed a greens conversion to Tif-Eagle Bermuda-grass greens to bring championship greens to a championship course. Bay Point Golf Club has won the Panama City News Herald's "Best of Bay" in 2016, 2017, and 2018. The Nicklaus Course has hosted US Open Local qualifiers and is a home course of the FSU Women's Golf Team and will host their Division 1 Invitational in February of 2020.

To me it’s a high classed GC
Other than the greens at the end of its aeration, the course was gorgeous.
Great course
Course in good shape green's recently punched but they still rolled pretty good but the views are outstanding very fun Course to play.
Great course
We came to the area for vacation and brought my two sons (16&17) and one of their buddies. They are learning to play and course wasn’t too much for them but still challenging enough for a seasoned golfer. Staff was more than excellent from the cashier to the starter and the views are amazing! Can’t say enough about the entire experience and we will definitely be back!
Very fun course!
Played this course on a whim and had a very good time. Course was challenging, but not so challenging that you felt like you were struggling to play. We only waited to tee off for a few mins per hole, it seemed like the cart-girl had customers that were taking too long to get what they want. This is a resort course, so it’s not a huge deal. I did have to dock them because they did a green aeration, and we didn’t know until we got to the course. So, I do feel as though the $110 for a tee time did feel excessive. Fairways, bunkers, and rough were all managed really well. They looked and played great. Staff in the clubhouse and concessions were great. The starter was concise and explained the course and it’s features well. The cart jockeys were quick and loaded our clubs up and even cleaned them when were done. I do wish we were able to hit the clubhouse after the turn, but the way the course is laid out, you’re as far away from the clubhouse as you could get between 9 and 10. So, stock up on waters if you do play here. If you’re into really hitting the bottle before you play, the clubhouse did have an actual bar, and the cart-girl does have swing-lube on hand.
Not a good course
Jack had better plans but the course was just ok, not worth the price at least not right now
Incredible Experience
When you think of beach golf this is what you are looking for. Amazing views all over the course of the bay. Two incredible signature holes that are second to none. An average golfer can play up from Tee 2 and still have fun. Bring plenty of balls as there is water on 18/18 holes here. Overall incredible experience here as the staff treated us as good as members.
Great Father’s Day
This was a real treat all around. A gentleman greeted me at my car with a cart and a layout of the course and gave me the lowdown on the process. All the staff members were very friendly and informative. Range balls were included with the greens fee which was nice. The course was in spectacular shape all around. The only issue we had was a foursome behind us getting impatient and hitting into us a couple of times, even though we were waiting on a group in front of us and our pace of play was right at 4 hrs. Would definitely play here again!
Great Course
My wife and I played the course and had read the reviews. It is a challenging course with water in play on just about every hole. The fairways were in great condition and the greens were in very good condition considering they lost there greens last year. The staff was very friendly from Randal who picked us up in parking lot to the pro shop staff, the marshals and the guy the cleaned our clubs and put in car after round. Pace of play on back was slow
I would definitely recommend playing here and we will definitely be back to play whenever we are in the area.
I’ve played this course many many times. Enjoy the layout. The greens are always excellent. Some tee boxes need some attention but the rest of the course was great. I definitely would refer this course.
Pretty good and best for the area
Course layout - great
Fairways - great
Tee box- great
Greens - ok
Way overpriced in my opinion. 69$ for twilight is absurd
Some really cool holes Greens very furry
Pace of play
We waited till 4:00PM to play and I think 2-twosomes and 2 or 3 singles came behind us we let a single and twosome play through and we still finished in about 3-1/2 hours (ahead of pace) but we finished at dark. Need to put singles with twosomes and wouldn’t be a problem.
Room for Improvement
I have played this course several times now. Overall, the course was in pretty good shape. We played it last year when the greens had been lost, and paid full price without any kind of disclosure about the greens. This year, the greens were super slow and didn’t seem to have been cut or rolled the day we played. I assume this is because the green are still fairly new and immature grass. Fairways and layout are great as they always are. We played the round in 4 hours with a foursome, and there was one point when the ranger asked us to speed things up, when no one was in front of us or waiting behind us at all. We paid a premium price and are above average golfers who know how to keep pace of play and are usually the ones waiting on others.
Had a good day and a decent experience, but the staff and the course always seem to leave some room for improvement.
Great Vacation Course!
My son and I have played this course twice. We were here almost exactly 1 year ago. Both were wonderful experiences. An attendant met us at the car as soon as we parked to load our clubs. They unloaded them into the trunk of the car when we were finished. Super friendly. Clubhouse people were super friendly. Slight discrepancy with the tee times was easily fixed. Saw 3 Rangers on the course during our round. I appreciate that because it keeps pace of play moving….and keeps non-paying people from trying to jump on the course. Love this place. Tougher track….will test your length and shot-making at times. But we love it!!!
Bay Point
Good track and greens are in nice shape, better greens than Legacy
