Bay Point Resort - Nicklaus Course

About
Bay Point Golf Club's Nicklaus Course at Sheraton Bay Point Resort is the only Nicklaus Design course in Northwest Florida. The golf course was formerly Lagoon Legend, which had a reputation for being one of the Florida Panhandle's toughest layouts. In 2004, the golf course closed and underwent a major renovation by the Nicklaus Design team. It reopened a year later with rave reviews. The redesign included restructuring the tees, greens, and bunkers and also re-contouring the fairways. The scenic landscape of scrub oaks, towering pines, and saltwater marshes was carefully preserved though. The golf course maintained the challenging aspects of the original but infused a play-ability that makes it accessible to all skill levels. Also like the former course, the new Nicklaus design offers the same stunning views of St. Andrew's Bay. In the fall of 2018, the Nicklaus Course completed a greens conversion to Tif-Eagle Bermuda-grass greens to bring championship greens to a championship course. Bay Point Golf Club has won the Panama City News Herald's "Best of Bay" in 2016, 2017, and 2018. The Nicklaus Course has hosted US Open Local qualifiers and is a home course of the FSU Women's Golf Team and will host their Division 1 Invitational in February of 2020.

Bay point - Nicklaus course
Staff was very friendly. Course is in 8.5/10 shape. Greens were 9.5/10. Very true roll. Takes a few holes to get used to the firmness of the greens. Nice range to hit balls prior to playing. Played by myself early in the morning in under 3.5 hrs. Overall fun course to play.
Go To Course
We always enjoy playing Bay Point. The course is always in good shape, although they had just top dressed the greens so a little rough, and Staff is always accommodating.
Ouch
Love the course but unfortunately my hamstring gave out on the 5th hole. I’ll be back asap!
Worth every dime spent!
Upon arrival at the first tee, we warmed up at their driving range... the starter gave my wife a dozen golf balls... that made her day!... of course she lost half of them...lol... Pro shop staff was amazing , great choice in golf attire... and the food at club house was 1st rate!... great experience every time... worth every dime spent. The Serrano's
Beautiful course
Beautiful course on the water with lots of water and sand traps. Well taken care of and polite staff.
Greg’s round
Lot of sand on the greens and small aeration holes!
Definitely resort pricing, but I was able to get a Hot Deal thru Golf Now.
Long Challenging Course
1st time playing Bay Point, but I will be back. Pretty long challenging course, greens had just been aerated so putting was beyond challenging but its a necessity. Typical FL course, lots of sand and water, be ready to layup and play it safe.
Always a Great experience
Even though they had just punched the greens, they still rolled true and were smooth.
The fairways were perfect and the layout is very fun.
Shot -2 for the day for a guy 76 years old
Beautiful
The views on this course are beautiful. Greens had been recently aerated which we knew when we booked it. Got a great deal on GolfNow. Would definitely play it again.
Not bad
Considering the greens were aerated a few days ago, the greens were playable. The course was dry in the fairways and it didn’t seem like mowing was kept up regularly because there were fairway areas that were a little overgrown and others where the grass clippings were evident. Overall the course was playable and I really enjoyed the layout and pace of play. BTW, this not a $100 per round course.
Challenging layout
Unfortunately for the green fees that are being charged, the actual greens are not in the best of shape.
Pushing pace of play when your 30 minutes ahead of schedule
As a local I okay here when I have friends and family come to visit because it’s a nice hard course. The course its self was in good condition, the inside employees were very nice, the starter was as well. 1st negative, you can’t drive the cart 50 yards in the parking lot but you can cross the highway four times in the cart on the course, makes zero sense. We had a marshal when we were on hole 12 tell us to pick up our pace, at said time we were 2 hrs and 40 minutes well ahead of the schedule of time with no on the hole behind us or in front of us. In telling us to pick up our pace he was very unprofessional in doing so, when I say unprofessional I mean was a total ( fill in the blank because this site won’t allow me to say what he was)our foursome was so stunned that we didn’t say anything to him, no response. He was so vile that it consumed us for the rest of the round. We finished our round in 3hrs &40 minutes, 30 minutes ahead of their 4hr 10 minute schedule. After the round I am ashamed to say my inner redneck came out as we confronted about his unprofessional manner. If this course is more concerned about how many people they can push through to get their $$ isn’t going to have to worry about pace of play because no one is going to be playing there! Everyone on the staff was great but one horrible person destroying the others hard work. I won’t say don’t play here but with no gps in carts and an it will not accept the name this marshal deserves pushing people and costing a local or tourist $150 to play an $80 course, I won’t be back.
Needs time
Came to PCB for vacation and played bay point. The 1st year i played it was awesome. Second year they dug up greens and had temp greens for same price. Don’t play this year the course was really bad. The fairways looked like they spot sprayed for weeds. Carts had grass killer on wheels because there are many yellow tracks through the course. The greens are horrible. It you make a put it was luck. Very bouncy. One of the guys I played with was a member and said they air rated the greens twice. With the big holes. That’s why it was so bumpy. I would recommend spending 147.00 to play the course in the condition it’s in. Give it a month and may be better.
Bay Point Nicklaus GC 7/9/25
The course was in good shape. The greens were bumpy. All of the hydration stations were full. Thankful for this. GolfNow rate was $75. Strict rule that if you book through GolfNow, you won’t go off early
