Bay Point Resort - Nicklaus Course

About
Bay Point Golf Club's Nicklaus Course at Sheraton Bay Point Resort is the only Nicklaus Design course in Northwest Florida. The golf course was formerly Lagoon Legend, which had a reputation for being one of the Florida Panhandle's toughest layouts. In 2004, the golf course closed and underwent a major renovation by the Nicklaus Design team. It reopened a year later with rave reviews. The redesign included restructuring the tees, greens, and bunkers and also re-contouring the fairways. The scenic landscape of scrub oaks, towering pines, and saltwater marshes was carefully preserved though. The golf course maintained the challenging aspects of the original but infused a play-ability that makes it accessible to all skill levels. Also like the former course, the new Nicklaus design offers the same stunning views of St. Andrew's Bay. In the fall of 2018, the Nicklaus Course completed a greens conversion to Tif-Eagle Bermuda-grass greens to bring championship greens to a championship course. Bay Point Golf Club has won the Panama City News Herald's "Best of Bay" in 2016, 2017, and 2018. The Nicklaus Course has hosted US Open Local qualifiers and is a home course of the FSU Women's Golf Team and will host their Division 1 Invitational in February of 2020.

Course was great, but…
Overall, we really enjoyed the course. The unfortunate thing is too many golfers refuse to repair their divots on the greens, causing others to not only read the slope of the greens but also attempt to navigate around or through the craters. My wife and I had a later tee time, and there was also an issue with people coming from their condos and horse playing on the course. Our last three holes had people on them, hitting balls. On two of the three holes, the guys were hitting from the direction of the greens towards the tee boxes. So just be aware, if your plans during the day cause you to need a later tee time, you’ll probably run into others that didn’t pay to play, goofing off in your fairways.
Great Course
The course was in excellent condition pace of play was very good!
Very Unprofessional
As a local I will tell all my friends visiting from now on to stay away from this course! I was supposed to play with a group of friends this morning and had to cancel last minute because of work, but sent them on to play, so instead of 4 players they had 3 and Bay Point still charged ny friends $150 for me because they said they had a 24 cancellation policy. It’s not like we canceled the whole tee time, only I couldn’t be there. Very unprofessional and I will be posting everywhere I can to keep friends and friend of friends from coming to PCB to play this course!!
Punched Greens were horrible
First time here, the round was a gift for Father’s Day. Course layout is challenging, but fun. Very disappointed that it was $140 for greens that were punched less than a week prior and nobody bothered to mention it. No chance at a good roll on your putt just sand and craters everywhere. I’d play here again, but not for that price with the greens in that condition, it made the round not feel worth it. Be upfront when your greens are aerated and let people know before they show up to be disappointed.
Great Place!
Bay Point Golf Club was an incredible experience from start to finish. The course layout is not only challenging but absolutely stunning, with scenic views around every turn. The staff provided top-notch service both on and off the course, making the day smooth and enjoyable. The new golf carts were a great touch—comfortable, well-equipped, and added to the overall premium feel. Can’t wait to come back!
Father’s Day with Son-in-Law
Had a great day with my son-in-law at Bay Point. Booked the tee time last night. I wish there would have been information listed about the greens being airified earlier in the week. The greens were still rough and hard to putt.
Usually great
Great course usually. Recently though, I took an out of town friend here and was pretty let down. We got there about 45 minutes early but the range was closed for mowing. Then we discovered the greens had been punched and sanded. I know it's necessary but it's not necessary to charge full price while the greens are healing. Finally, we only seen the drink cart once and on hole 16. There is no opportunity to buy refreshments at the clubhouse after 9th hole due to the layout. I love the course though, see you in July.
Great Execution
Course is in good shape. I suspect once the greens heal from recent aerification they will be beautiful. Staff was great. Layout is fun; can challenge you but also has safe plays.
Great Layout!
The layout is really great! I enjoyed the hole out into the bay the most. The greens were not in great shape, bumpy but somehow fast. I would play it again
This is my favorite course of all-time. We played 5/28/25. The price is absolutely outrageous considering the range is under destruction and no signs of being completed. All things considered- I am sick to my stomach at the prices to play a round of golf in Bay County. It is confusing and outrageous and in no way represents what Nicklaus intended for the game. If range is not active, price should be discounted. $140 is absolutely outrageous even if the range is active. Management in Panama City on all courses: Legacy, Bay Point, and Signal Hill should re-evaluate their prices. I’m from Tampa, FL and I’ve played on some of the busiest courses in South Florida for $40+tax/fees. No chance was this worth the money we paid.
