Aberdeen 4/26/22
Played as a threesome. Greens had been aerated recently and there was no mention of this on the course website or on GolfNow/Teeoff. I get it, it’s that time of year for aeration. But at least tell your customers before and adjust your pricing. Several bunkers completely unplayable. I expect more from Aberdeen. If I want unplayable bunkers I’ll save $30 and go play Normandie. Even as a “hot deal” it wasn’t that much cheaper than the course rate. Biggest issue was the slow pace of play. Played behind a Fivesome. We asked one in that group at the turn if we could play thru. He said we could but that we didn’t really need to because they were keeping up with the group in front of them (Narrator: “They weren’t keeping up”). The same guy also mentioned he’s part of the staff at Aberdeen. Not sure if his bosses allow employees to play in a fivesome and hold up traffic or not. Once we played thru, we caught up with a really slow foursome who were hitting multiple balls and then hunting for other golf balls. They never let us play thru. If you want to have good course conditions and a faster Links style experience, take your business to Gateway or The Landings. I won’t be back to Aberdeen until course’s conditions and pace of play improve.
Very strange starter
We had a 3:20 tee time on a Sunday. I was excited to bring 3 friends out who hadn’t played the course before. As 3 of us made our way down to the chipping green at 3 o’clock, the starter approached us. He asked where our fourth was. We told him he was parking. He then proceeded to get mad at us for not all being there (20 minutes prior to our tee time) and yelled that we could just wait. We didn’t have an issue waiting another 15 minutes….when our tee time was..anyway, he sent a foursome out directly in front of us who had already played 18 and had been drinking heavily(no problem with that but keep up with the group in front of you). Man it was a brutal day stuck behind these guys. Leaving stuff behind, that we returned to them, of course. Taking 20+ minutes to play a single hole, waiting for the greens to clear from 250 out, all of the things. Maybe rather than having some guy making people feel uncomfortable before even teeing off, they could benefit more from having a Marshall drive the course to enforce pace of play. I’ll play there again but hopefully we never have another experience like this one. 5+ hr round. Greens were punched but still rolled pretty decent.
Love this Course
For the time of year, late March, the course was in great shape except the greens had been aerated recently. Every putt was straight.. I played as a single. On the back 9 I had a 3 some and a 4 some in front of me. Neither would let me play through. Their bunkers actually have sand in them. I was impressed as a lot of courses in this area have trouble with their bunkers.. if you’ve never played Aberdeen I highly recommend it. Great links course.
Spring golf
It was a nice day for golf, albeit windy, and the pace was pretty good for a Sunday at noon. Course was in good shape for this time of year. They cut back a lot of the scrub bushes which will grow in as we head towards summer. This makes the course play somewhat easier, but importantly significantly cuts the pace of play as people don't spend tons of time foraging for errant shots. Aberdeen is a good solid course with the links feel.
