Royal Kunia Country Club
About
Royal Kunia Country Club boasts a reputation as one of the best and most scenic golf courses on Oahu. The course is perched high above the Ewa plain, offering panoramic views of the entire South Shore, stretching from Pearl Harbor to the downtown skyline of Honolulu to the famed Diamond Head. The layout rolls across a gently undulating landscape, offering a diverse layout of short par 4s and demanding par 5s. Water comes into play on a few holes and there are strategically placed bunkers throughout. Its coastal location guarantees that wind will be a factor in determining your outcome. The signature hole comes exactly midway through the course. Royal Kunia Country Club's par-5 ninth requires three strong shots that avoid the numerous troubles from tee to green including bunkers, trees, water, and of course, wind.

Would Not Pay Non-Resident Rate to Play
Pros: Arrived early. Friendly staff.let me go out right away. Linked up with some locals and had a great time.
Cons: Course conditions: Tees and fairways good; greens spotty with inconsistent speed (ball stopped going downhill on multiple occasions). Glad I used Golfnow Hot Deal as conditions do not warrant paying the non-resident rate of $160. However I would play again if the Hot Deal was available,
Nice views
Very quiet course. Far enough away from the hustle & bustle of the city with great views.
Best to get a tee time before 12:00p (fall/winter season) or you may not finish 18 holes. We started at 1:45p and was only able to complete 16.
One of my favorites on O'ahu
We are from Canada and we travel to O'ahu about once per year. The Royal Kunia is one of my favorites to play. The course layout allows myself ( an 8 handicap) and my wife (novice) to enjoy the day. The course is both beautiful and challenging. Yet a beginner will still have lots of fun also. The view from the golf course over looking Pearl Harber and Diamond Head is spectacular. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. We highly recommend this place.
Disappointed
This course isn’t terrible and maybe I’m being harsh because I’ve played this course a bunch of times but it’s been 4 years since until this weekend. The course looks like it hasn’t been kept like they used to keep it, seems like a lot of new staff. Biggest complaint is the pace of play was slow and the course conditions weren't what they once were, the lady inside at the register should work on her customer service but the lady at the cart return was super nice.
Paid $37 for one of my most painful rounds of golf—ever! Save your money and find another course.
My last day on the island after 5 years so I wanted to play a nice course before leaving. Found a “great deal” for $37 for 18 holes of afternoon golf at Royal Kunia on Golf Now app.
When we showed up there was a sign on the door that said “carts must be returned by 6:30pm”. Since our tee time was scheduled for 2:35pm I was a little concerned. After checking in, the starter informed us that we can go out right after the 2 sets of twosomes he was sending out in front of us. We asked if he could combine the twosomes to speed up the pace of play and he responded with a flat “no”. We went to our car, loaded up our clubs and proceeded to the #1 tee as instructed. When we get there, we saw the 2 sets of twosomes lined up and two additional sets of foursomes that the starter must have sent over while we were loading our bags! When I looked around I saw traffic all over the course, jammed up on top of each other because of the lack of organized start times and course management. It took us 30 minutes before we had enough clearance and we painfully followed the four groups of tourists in front of us with substantial waiting in between each shot. The par 3’s were even worse....at least a 20 minute wait on each of the four.
We “raced” against the clock feeling the agony of watching the painfully slow play in front of and never saw one marshall to assist the entire time.
On top of that, the course was overgrown, bunkers were trampled (at least the little bit of sand that was in them), and the greens were burnt and unkept. As an insult to injury, we were greeted with bone dry igloos at each water station, so we got headaches from getting cooked by the sun on that goat ranch without any hydration! This place needs to get it together—the views are unbeatable and the course presents some great challenges. However, they don’t seen to care about the customer experience at all and are willing to collect your toll and let you fend for yourself. Don’t waste your time or money here, the deal is not as good as it seems.
One of the few golf courses.
One of the few golf courses that non-residents can book at Golf Now in Hawaii.
Royal Kunia
Beautiful course. Well laid out. I will play again.
Greens recently punched
Nice course, great views, some interesting holes. Not overly challenging. Wasn’t aware greens were punched until I arrived.
Good little gem
We wanted to golf while on the island and found this little gem on golf now. Paid in full with golf now to get the locals rate but have a feeling they would have given it anyway. There was nobody playing (not surprising for a Wednesday local course) so pace of play was up to us. The prices in the pro shop and snack shop were reasonable too.
The course itself wasn’t in tour shape but I’ve seen a lot worse. Having said that, they did disclose that they had just aerated the greens but they really weren’t in too bad of shape.
Great views, green grass with forgiving layout, and cold beer made this a great day off from the beach. Lol
Great local golf course
This was our first time playing Royal Kunia CC. The course layout was good but there was a picturesque back ground. We were behind a group of locals that could hit fir distance but lacked accuracy. So we waited 3-5 minutes every hole. We never saw a marshal monitoring speed of play.
The staff was very friendly.
The snack shop was closed when we finished the ninth hole. The sign said they closed at Noon???
We go back to play because it was a “resort” course, being wide open.
Great course, but very long round
This course was a great price and has many amazing views of Waikiki. Most of the holes are quite interesting.
My only issue was that on the first par three the course was backed up for more than 30 minutes. It seemed like there was either overbooking or people were taking way too long due to a contest on the par 3s. Either way, it needed a marshal to move things along and there was no one in sight.
Nice layout
The premium clubs were not premium clubs. The cart had horrible brakes needed to apply breaks 30 feet before you needed to stop.
