Golfer Reviews
Never Disappoints
Every year we go to Big Island and play this course. We played at 11 am on a Monday
It is usually 8 to 10 degrees cooler than the Kona coast so perfect weather for golf.
The course got new carts.
Pace of play excellent
My husband and I had a great time.
No dining or bar area but sometimes a food truck. Beer and other beverages in a cooler where you check in.
Rain
Unfortunately rained out for most of the back 9. Doesn't happen often but it closed out the course. Great place to play . It is cooler up on the mountain. Fun course.
Beautiful day
Staff was friendly, the course was beautiful. We ran into turkeys, pigs, chickens and goats but none of them bothered us.
Makani GC
This was a fun course to play. Course was in good condition, wild life was abundant, and we enjoyed playing here!
A Touch of Old Hawaii !
A Unique Throwback Track of Old Hawaii . Fun and Challenging especially the last three closing holes 16-18 . Good Value for the price to play ! Great Friendly Staff in the Pro Shop . Mahalo!
Fun golf course, wonderful views.
I always enjoy playing the Makani course when I come to Hawaii. Fun course with plenty of challenges but to difficult. Lots of wildlife and flowers!
Makani Golf
Exceptionally neat layout, course condition is probably around three right now. Tee boxes need a bit of work. Water areas were not completely full and all of the water crossing areas were challenging. I really appreciate the amount of water and the difficulty of transitioning those areas. I recommend the golf course to anybody who looks forward to a challenge.
Great and challenging experience
A wonderful and challenging course at a high elevation. Like playing in a lush valley in the mountains.
Perry Dye Track
Some really nice views of the ocean at this higher altitude Course about 30 minutes out of Kona.
Course layout really shows the creativeness of the designer. Greens were slow as aeration had occurred within the last 10 days making them bumpy.
Course seems to be lacking in maintenance overall for what the design would offer.
Being Pete Dye's oldest son, Perry built it with the expectation , I'm sure, of creating the 17th and 18th to mirror TPC Sawgrass.
Clubhouse shell exists indicating that economy stopped the original plan for the complex when originally built. Tent for a pro shop and very little snack and beverage service.
Carts are serviceable but in need of better care.
With aeration having been completed recently was told they had "no sand" for seed bottles on course so we couldn't help the superintendent and his ability to maintain the fairways.
Great layout
I found this to be a quite enjoyable, varied layout. Nice scenic property with views unencumbered by housing. I really liked that the course played pretty firm with good bounce/roll but you could still get an iron under the ball and easily take a divot in the fairways. Greens were faster than those on other courses I played this week. Some fairways on the back nine had some issues but really made no difference in play. I’ll be back!
