Good Value and Fun Course
I saw some reviews for this course that weren't very flattering, so I feel compelled to share my opinion.
First, let's calibrate and understand that this is an executive course (mostly par 3s and 4s) and it is relatively inexpensive to play. I've seen some people give the course 1 or 2 stars. Anyone who does this has unrealistic expectations and is likely comparing it to a hooty-tooty par 72 course.
This course is fun. It's quirky and takes some getting used to (lots of blind shots), but if you accept it for what it is and appreciate the price tag, you have to give it its props. Yes, the tee boxes suck (so use a tee) ... and yes the golf carts aren't new and don't have gps (so buy a range finder or a golfapp on your phone) ... but the fairways and greens are in good shape, the pace of play (when I played) is quick, and the course is adequately challenging (for a par 3/4 course).
The range has some fancy new ball-tracker system. I didn't have time to try it, but it's pretty cool looking.
All in all, I enjoyed my round and I especially appreciated my $15 Golfnow.com hotdeal price!
Terrible experience.
The course was in terrible condition. Tee boxes were practically unhittable. $42 for 18 holes is highway robbery for this course. Finished off the round by getting screamed at by the cracked out course maintenance man.
Its a Long Day
Played this course before and it is a great way to work on irons and short game. Just don’t play on the weekend behind a foursome and a twosome that have only played at Top Golf. Round of 4 hours and 45 minutes for a par 61. Ranger no where in sight. Gutted it out but will forget the weekends going forward.
Terrible Course
Possibly the worst course I’ve ever played, and I’ve played a lot. Tee boxes were all hard compacted dirt. Power lines and towers everywhere (hence the name Steel Canyon). Blind tee shots including an almost 200 yd par 3 where the green is hardly even visible. Cart could barely make it up a hill ( single rider 190lbs) and the brakes were shot coming down steep hills. I wouldn’t play here again even if it was free. Better off going to the range and hitting a bucket of balls.
Cheap and Convenient
Listen...you get what you pay for out here. If you want to go play some golf at a course nearby for cheap, this is your spot. Just make sure you don't spend anymore than $35 to play out here.
A bunch of terrible golfers out there and pace is bad. The layout is interesting...short course. Tee boxes are rough. Some have mats and others are just dirt.
Good executive course.
Interesting layout. Good track for the money, have never gotten paired up with another group to fill my foursome.
Greens in decent shape.
A couple of tee boxes were in rough shape.
Played from the black to make it worth while.
driving range not open, greens were hairy, maintenance fertilized greens as we were playing, tee boxes in poor shape, some had artificial turf
Short but sweet
Normally, I don't prefer short courses but this course has some challenging and idiosyncratic holes. Many of the par 4s are drivable, but misses will be penalized.
YOu won't be blown away by the greens yet they did roll pretty well....tee boxes look like rubbish, but this is the type of course you enjoy because of it's differences.
