Great Arnold Palmer design.
A players course. No reply holes alike and course is a good test of golf for the better player. Don’t be ashamed to move forward a tee box for more enjoyment.
My favorite course
For the $ and course layout it’s my favorite course in stl area. Most difficult greens, lots of undulations, barely a flat spot, challenging. Layout is nice, if it seems easy step it back a tee box, it makes a difference.
Great course…
This is one of the best layouts in the area. The greens, which are normally good, were slow and bumpy. The pace of play was quite slow with a round of 4 hours 55 min. This is usually an excellent value. Greens will get better with a little work. Service in the restaurant/bar is slow. I’ll always recommend this course, but they need to step it up to stay on top.
Slow pace of play had 2 groups of six in front of us
FIrst time player
Hard to write a decent review as I played so terribly - not the course's fault. It was a more challenging course that I was used to. Greens were in great shape, fairway grass was dormant, but very playable. The course requires some accurate shot-making. I'd be willing to try it again.
Great for the price
Pace of play was good - but it WAS Christmas Eve! Been to Spencer T before when they let too many groups out, and pace is awful, so be aware! Will go back this summer to check out the condition, because it's kind of a fun track!
so slow couldn't finish
Overheard group in front of us on practice green, they were playing 3 some in front of them and playing for $28 in prize $. With as much time they spent over 2 foot putts on the green you would have thought they were playing for 2 million. Group was also never ready to hit their shots in fairway. This had to be the slowest regular round group I have ever played behind!! Took over 2:45 to play 9. Never saw a marshal. darkness came before able to finish. Totally disappointed and frustrated!
For Late November, Good Conditions & Price
Spencer T. Olin is in my Top 3 courses in the St. Louis metro area. Great design, low green fees and the people there are friendly.
For late November, I really couldn't complain about much. Course in good shape and a greens fee of $30. You can't beat that!
Fun, challenging course
The course gets a B+, mindful it is a public track. Sole Staff member who we dealt with was extremely friendly and attentive. The driving range is so-so at best, and the balls beat up and fairly filthy. The course is long and challenging in my opinion from the White Tees (played 6,400 yards if I recall correctly). I am a left handed golfer and many of the holes set up quite nicely for LH’ers who draw the ball. Fairways in good shape. Several of the holes are blind shots - lack of course knowledge stung me a few times. Cannot comment on the bunkers - happily no visits to the beach. The greens are very large, wide and undulate greatly. Many of them slope quite severely as well. All in all I am glad we played it. Inexpensive, challenging round. 40 minute trip from STL.
