Olin t best public course in area for the money!
Drove 59 minutes to get to Olin T Spenser to play a round by myself and drive was worth every penny. Staff friendly. Senior rate that day $31.00 great. Tee box, fairways and greens all in GREAT shape. Reasonable priced drinks, snacks and food!. Layout challenging, interesting and fair. If you live in the St. Louis mo area drive Alton Illinois and play this course!! An appreciative golfer. Steve
Decent Value
Fairways and green wet good and play well. Roughs and outer areas need a good deal of work. Bare and not in playing condition.
Fairways a little narrow and hard which causes wild bounces. Difficult for a public play course.
No Court Marshall taking care of business. Waited every shot and had as many as 4 groups on a hole.
Course was in great shape, especially since its been 100+ and no rain for 3 weeks.
Great shape
The course was awesome shape the greens were slower than usual maybe they’re scared of the heat wave normally it’s like putting on a table top at Spencer
Always a super challenge
Spencer T is one of my favorite courses in the area! One day I hope to have a decent round out there lol
This course has character
Great course that demands a management approach, very challenging. I've been a fan for years.
Great Course & Conditions - At A Great Value
Spencer T. Olin is in my Top 3 courses in the St. Louis metro. The course has a good flow of holes, and the most difficult part of the course is the greens. There is plenty of slope in their greens, with many holes with a significant amount of slope from back to front.
For mid-May, Spencer T. Olin is in excellent condition. Only areas I saw which were not, was the poor drainage on hole 13. Little grass in this area, with weeds taking over. Hole 16 green has a small area left, front, that has been re-sodded. The bunkers were in great condition and greens were outstanding too. Not much to complain about at all. We played the course after a heavy rain the day before and the course was not overly wet. With a senior weekend rate of $53, you will not find a better value for the quality of course you are getting.
The most pleasant surprise was the lady handling the snack bar area. Katiana (hope I spelled her name correctly) had one of the best personalities. What a great addition to the course. We ordered hamburgers and they were thick burgers, which was another surprise. With the temps in the low 60's and a bit of wind, they still had the beverage cart out too. The cart lady had a great personality too.
If you’re looking for a great course, at a great value – this is the course to play in metro St. Louis.
Great course!
First time playing and really enjoyed the staff and course.
A long slog
Cart path only. Terribly slow and conditions get worse every year. That said, 30 bucks and the weather was nice. Not much more to add. Lots of better courses closer to STL.
Complete and utter Disappointment
Walking to the Pro Shop you can already see how bad 14 tee box is, it is a clear preview of the terrible course conditions at STO. This was a favorite course to play and now I doubt we will ever return. From tee to fairways greens and bunkers this course in the worst shape we have ever seen it. Tee boxes are beat up and need significant repair, fairways have excessive areas of ground under repair, and many greens have dead spots and several bunkers are submerged under water. I’ve always thought of STO as one of the top tier courses, but certainly not this year. Highly doubt they can fix all these issues this year hence my reason for no return this year and possibly ever. Arnie would be embarrassed to have his name on this course.
Great Arnold Palmer design.
A players course. No reply holes alike and course is a good test of golf for the better player. Don’t be ashamed to move forward a tee box for more enjoyment.
My favorite course
For the $ and course layout it’s my favorite course in stl area. Most difficult greens, lots of undulations, barely a flat spot, challenging. Layout is nice, if it seems easy step it back a tee box, it makes a difference.
